Formation and extinction of thermal stratifications impact the reservoir ecosystems and have been closely influenced by meteorological and hydrological factors. However, quantifying the relative importance of these crucial environmental factors and mechanisms in reservoir regions characterized by various depths remain comparatively uninvestigated. Tianbao Reservoir is a typical monomictic warm and drinking water source reservoir in Southwest China.

Background: Vaccines, including COVID-19 vaccines, are known to be cost-effective interventions for disease prevention and control. However, adverse events following immunisation (AEFI) may challenge the acceptance of these vaccines. This study assessed the prevalence and severity of COVID-19-related AEFI amongst healthcare workers at tertiary health facilities in Nigeria.

The attempt of this review article is to determine the impact of nuclear and mitochondrial damages on the propagation of cancer incidences. This review has advanced our understanding to altered genes and their relevant cancerous proteins. The progressive raising effects of free reactive oxygen species ROS and toxicogenic compounds contributed to significant mutation in nuclear and mitochondrial DNA where the incidence of gastric cancer is found to be linked with down regulation of some relevant genes and mutation in some important cellular proteins such as AMP-18 and CA-11.

The study was aimed at genetic characterization of Nigerian breeds of Muturu, N'Dama, and White Fulani cattle breeds at heat shock protein 90AB1 locus. Also, the goal of the study was to detect the presence of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) at HSP90AB1 locus and consequently recommend them as bio-markers for thermo-tolerance potentials in Nigerian cattle breeds when exposed to assaults of thermal conditions/heat shock of tropical environment. Based on the previously published potentials of this candidate gene to lower assaults of thermal conditions/heat shock such as heat stress, the detected SNPs of HSP90AB1 within the population of the Nigerian cattle in this study will be recommended for population-based screening with a view to genetically improving those zebu cattle breeds that are more vulnerable to heat shock and assaults of thermal conditions.

Malaria and lymphatic filariasis (LF) are two serious public health challenges in sub-Saharan Africa, and both diseases are transmitted by Anopheles mosquitoes. Successful control of both diseases requires detailed information on transmission dynamics; thus, this study investigated malaria and LF transmission indices in two (2) communities (Jidawa and Kargo) in North-West Nigeria. Anopheles mosquitoes were sampled from twenty-five (25) randomly selected houses from each of the two communities using pyrethrum spray collection (PSC).

The effects of plastic effluent in Kano Metropolis on cytotoxicity and genotoxicity were examined using a test on root cells. The physicochemical characteristics of industrial wastewater were assessed, and the results showed values that were higher than the required criteria; this implies that the effluent was not treated before to disposal. For 96 hours, a group of 40 onion bulbs was cultivated in various concentrations of plastic effluent: 15, 30, 45, and 60% (/).

Washed rice water (WRW) is the leftover water after washing rice grains and is usually discarded. However, WRW contains nutrients leached from rice, making it a potential plant fertilizer. Reusing WRW promotes better water governance, particularly in the face of increased freshwater needs due to population expansion and climate change.

Genetically modified (GM) crops expressing insecticidal crystal proteins are widely accepted worldwide, but their commercial utilization demands comprehensive risk assessment studies. A 90-day risk assessment study was conducted on Wistar rats fed with GM maize (CEMB-413) expressing binary insect-resistant genes (cry1Ac and cry2Ab) at low (30%) and high (50%) dose along with a control diet group. The study used fifty Wistar rats randomly distributed in five treatment groups.

Eliminating hazardous organic contaminants from water is a major concern today. Nanomaterials with their textural features, large surface area, electrical conductivity, and magnetic properties make them efficient for the removal and photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants. The reaction mechanisms of the photocatalytic oxidation of common organic pollutants were critically examined.

ChatGPT represents an advanced conversational artificial intelligence (AI), providing a powerful tool for generating human-like responses that could change pharmacy prospects. This protocol aims to describe the development, validation, and utilization of a tool to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice towards ChatGPT (KAP-C) in pharmacy practice and education. The development and validation process of the KAP-C tool will include a comprehensive literature search to identify relevant constructs, content validation by a panel of experts for items relevancy using content validity index (CVI) and face validation by sample participants for items clarity using face validity index (FVI), readability and difficulty index using the Flesch-Kincaid Readability Test, Gunning Fog Index, or Simple Measure of Gobbledygook (SMOG), assessment of reliability using internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha), and exploratory factor analysis (EFA) to determine the underlying factor structures (eigenvalues, scree plot analysis, factor loadings, and varimax).

Variation exists in milk protein concentration of dairy cows of the same breed that are fed and managed in the same environment, and little information was available on this variation which might be attributed to differences in rumen microbial composition as well as their fermentation metabolites. This study is aimed at investigating the difference in the composition and functions of rumen microbiota as well as fermentation metabolites in Holstein cows with high and low milk protein concentrations. In this study, 20 lactating Holstein cows on the same diet were divided into two groups (10 cows each), high degree of milk protein group (HD), and low degree of milk protein (LD) concentrations based on previous milk composition history.

This paper aims to select the most appropriate rain-based meteorological drought index for detecting drought characteristics and identifying tropical drought events in the Johor River Basin (JRB). Based on a multi-step approach, the study evaluated seven drought indices, including the Rainfall Anomaly Index (RAI), Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI), China-Z Index (CZI), Modified China-Z Index (MCZI), Percent of Normal (PN), Deciles Index (DI), and Z-Score Index (ZSI), based on the CHIRPS rainfall gridded-based datasets from 1981 to 2020. Results showed that CZI, MCZI, SPI, and ZSI outperformed the other indices based on their correlation and linearity (R = 0.

This research article investigates the behavior of elastic waves in an inhomogeneous isotropic three-layered sandwich plate with soft-core and stiff-skin layers embedded in Winkler foundations, using anti-plane shear motion. The study establishes the exact antisymmetric dispersion relation, low-frequency spectrum, and overall cut-off frequency of the wave propagation. A shortened polynomial dispersion relation is developed for the long-wave low-frequency regime by considering the contrasting material setup and compared with the exact dispersion relation.
