New morphological and molecular data were generated for trematodes recovered from the intestines of the fish from two locations in the south of the Russian Far East. Morphologically, these trematodes are identical to (Microphalloidea: Zoogonidae) from Japan. According to results of phylogenetic analysis based on 28S rDNA sequence data, was closely related to , and appears as a sister taxon to these two species.

Objectives: Leptospira, the spirochaete causing leptospirosis, can be classified into >250 antigenically distinct serovars. Although knowledge of the animal host species and geographic distribution of Leptospira serovars is critical to understand the human and animal epidemiology of leptospirosis, current data are fragmented. We aimed to systematically review, the literature on animal host species and geographic distribution of Leptospira serovars to examine associations between serovars with animal host species and regions and to identify geographic regions in need of study.

For the first time, faunal groundwater patterns were assessed for the rivers of Eastern Manchuria, the Ussury River Basin and the rivers of the south-western slope of Sikhote Alin. A total of 164 species (including 32 stygobionts) belonging to the phyla Annelida, Mollusca and Arthropoda are first records of groundwater animals, and two of the stygobionts are described below as new species for Science.

Background: Despite intensive developments of adoptive T cell and NK cell therapies, the efficacy against solid tumors remains elusive. Our study demonstrates that macrophage-based cell therapy could be a potent therapeutic option against solid tumors.
Methods: To this end, we determine the effect of a natural triterpene glycoside, cucumarioside A-2 (CA-2), on the polarization of mouse macrophages into the M1 phenotype, and explore the antitumor activity of the polarized macrophage.

The coexistence of various pathogens inside the patient's body is one of the poorly studied and current issues. The aim of the study is to identify the relationship between the indicators of complex laboratory diagnostics and the clinical manifestations of a mixed disease during subsequent infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus using the example of a case of chronic encephalitis-borreliosis infection. Seven blood serum samples were collected from the patient over the course of a year.

The P2X7 receptor (P2X7R) is an ATP-gated ion channel and potential therapeutic target for new drug development. In this study, we synthesized a series of new 1,4-naphthoquinone (1,4-NQ) derivatives and investigated their antagonistic effects against mouse P2X7R. We explored the ability of the tested substances to block ATP-induced Ca influx into mouse Neuro-2a cells and selected the four most effective substances: the 1,4-naphthoquinone thioglucosides U-548 and U-557 and their tetracyclic conjugates U-286 and U-556.

Wild waterfowl birds are known to be the main reservoir for a variety of avian influenza viruses of different subtypes. Some subtypes, such as H2Nx, H8Nx, H12Nx, and H14Nx, occur relatively rarely in nature. During 10-year long-term surveillance, we isolated five rare H12N5 and one H12N2 viruses in three different distinct geographic regions of Northern Eurasia and studied their characteristics.
