The feasibility of risk assessment of a Siberian silk moth ( Tschetv.) outbreak was analyzed by means of landscape and weather characteristics and tree condition parameters. Difficulties in detecting forest pest outbreaks (especially in Siberian conditions) are associated with the inability to conduct regular ground surveillance in taiga territories, which generally occupy more than 2 million km.

Hybrid Tamm and quasi-BIC microcavity modes.

Nanoscale

October 2023

Kirensky Institute of Physics, Federal Research Center KSC SB RAS, Krasnoyarsk, 660036 Russia.

The microcavity in the form of a liquid crystal defect layer embedded in a one-dimensional photonic crystal is considered. The microcavity mode has a tunable radiation decay rate in the vicinity of a bound state in the continuum. It is demonstrated that coupling between the microcavity mode and a Tamm plasmon polariton results in hybrid Tamm-microcavity modes with a tunable factor.

Article Synopsis
  • Low-quality transplants affected by hypoxic injury can result in complications after surgery.
  • This research uses mathematical modeling to analyze how oxygen absorption through the liver impacts its metabolism when oxygen levels are low.
  • Findings indicate that lower oxygenation of the perfusion medium reduces oxygen uptake, requiring more energy for the liver's metabolism, while energy resources are optimally allocated among various metabolic processes.

Gd@COH endohedral complexes for advanced biomedical applications (computer tomography, cancer treatment, etc.) were synthesized using high-frequency arc plasma discharge through a mixture of graphite and GdO oxide. The Gd@C endohedral complex was isolated by high-efficiency liquid chromatography and consequently oxidized with the formation of a family of Gd endohedral fullerenols with gross formula Gd@CO(OH).

In this study, we developed a filtering material for facial masks, which is capable of trapping and subsequent inactivation of bacteria under white light emitting diodes (LED) or sunlight irradiation. Such a functionality is achieved via the modification of the composite membrane based on porous polymer with photocatalytic (TiO) and plasmonic (Ag) nanoparticles. The porous polymer is produced by means of a computer numerical control machine, which rolls a photoresist/thermoplastic mixture into a ~20-µm-thick membrane followed by its thermal/ultraviolet (UV) hardening and porosification.

MnGe epitaxial thin films previously grown mainly on Ge substrate have been synthesized on Si(111) using the co-deposition of Mn and Ge at a temperature of 390 °C. RMS roughness decreases by almost a factor of two in the transition from a completely polycrystalline to a highly ordered growth mode. This mode has been stabilized by changing the ratio of the Mn and Ge evaporation rate from the stoichiometric in the buffer layer.

Aptamers Regulating the Hemostasis System.

Molecules

December 2022

Laboratory for Biomolecular and Medical Technologies, Faculty of Medicine, Krasnoyarsk State Medical University, 660022 Krasnoyarsk, Russia.

The hemostasis system is a complex structure that includes the fibrinolysis system, and Yes this is correct coagulation and anticoagulation parts. Due to the multicomponent nature, it becomes relevant to study the key changes in the functioning of signaling pathways, and develop new diagnostic methods and modern drugs with high selectivity. One of the ways to solve this problem is the development of molecular recognition elements capable of blocking one of the hemostasis systems and/or activating another.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the simultaneous measurement of five specific mRNA genes (WT1, BAALC, EVI1, PRAME, HMGA2) in whole blood samples as a potential diagnostic marker for acute leukemia, noting that traditional methods require isolation of cells first.
  • Researchers analyzed 127 blood samples from confirmed acute leukemia patients and a comparison group of 87 patients without blood cancers to assess mRNA levels using multiplex PCR techniques.
  • Results showed significant differences in mRNA expression levels, with high levels of WT1 found in most leukemia patients, and variations for BAALC, PRAME, and HMGA2 among different leukemia subtypes compared to the control group.

Soda lignin is a by-product of the soda process for producing cellulose from grassy raw materials. Since a method for the industrial processing of lignin of this type is still lacking, several research teams have been working on solving this problem. We first propose a modification of soda lignin with sulfamic acid over solid catalysts.

A method for electrically controlled synchronous mode tuning in the transmittance and reflectance spectra of a photonic structure consisting of an asymmetric dielectric Fabry-Pérot microcavity and an ultrathin metallic film has been proposed. The excitation of a broadband Tamm plasmon polariton at a metal/Bragg mirror interface is accompanied by the two phenomena opposing one another. Due to the strong absorption induced by the metal, a sufficient rejection level in the reflection of the off-resonant radiation has been obtained in a wide spectral range, which almost coincides with the photonic band gap, while at the cavity mode frequencies the structure becomes transparent for the reflected radiation.
