In the extraordinary weather conditions of the austral summer of 2023, fossil mosses thawed out from under the Bellingshausen Ice Dome, King George Island, Southern Shetland Archipelago of maritime Antarctica. At the end of the austral summer, we directly measured greenhouse gas fluxes (CH and CO) from the surface of fossil mosses. We showed that fossil mosses were strong emitters of CH and weak emitters of CO.

The properties, features of thermal behavior and crystallization of copolymers containing various types of valerate monomers were studied depending on the set and ratio of monomers. We synthesized and studied the properties of three-component copolymers containing unusual monomers 4-hydroxyvalerate (4HV) and 3-hydroxy-4-methylvalerate (3H4MV), in addition to the usual 3-hydroxybutyrate (3HB) and 3-hydroxyvalerate (3HV) monomers. The results showed that P(3HB--3HV--4HV) and P(3HB--3HV--3H4MV) terpolymers tended to increase thermal stability, especially for methylated samples, including an increase in the gap between melting point (T) and thermal degradation temperature (T), an increase in the melting point and glass transition temperature, as well as a lower degree of crystallinity (40-46%) compared with P(3HB--3HV) (58-66%).

The diffusion properties of low-density non-porous silica glasses (expanded silica glasses) were researched with the aim of searching for the molecular structure of membrane materials intended for the effective separation of helium-neon gas mixtures. It has been shown on a large number (84) of computer models of such glasses that there are molecular structures of silica in which various helium and neon diffusion mechanisms are simultaneously implemented: superdiffusion for helium and subdiffusion for neon. This makes it possible to significantly (by 3-5 orders of magnitude) increase the helium permeability of such glasses at room temperature and maintain a high selectivity for the separation of helium and neon (at the level of 104-105) at the same time.

Over the course of the past several decades, spectroscopic surveys have unveiled the intricate nature of the aqueous chelation of Rare Earth Metals. Herein, we have collected a large data set about the interaction between 16 metal ions (Sc, Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, and Lu) and perfluorinated nonsymmetric β-diketones, which contain chalcogen-bearing heterocyclic rings or aromatic moiety. The results of constructing 3D scaffolds from degradable poly(3-hydrosbutyrpate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) using FDM technology and studying the structure, mechanical properties, biocompatibility in vitro, and osteoplastic properties in vivo are presented. In the process of obtaining granules, filaments, and scaffolds from the initial polymer material, a slight change in the crystallization and glass transition temperature and a noticeable decrease in molecular weight (by 40%) were registered. During the compression test, depending on the direction of load application (parallel or perpendicular to the layers of the scaffold), the 3D scaffolds had a Young's modulus of 207.

Here, we report the first detection of the North American leaf-mining moth (Fitch, 1859) (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae) on North American black locust (Fabaceae) in Primorsky Krai (the Russian Far East) in July 2022. Overall, six moths were reared from the leaf mines and identified based on adult morphology (forewing pattern and male genitalia) and three of them were DNA barcoding. The properties of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate--3-hydroxyhexanoate) P(3HB--3HHx) copolymers with different ratios of monomers synthesized by the wild-type strain B-10646 on sugars, and an industrial sample from Kaneka synthesized by the recombinant strain NSDG-ΔfadB1 on soybean oil, were studied in a comparative aspect and in relation to poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) P(3HB). Luciferases from copepods and are successfully used as bioluminescent reporters for in vivo and in vitro assays. Here, we report the minimal sequence of copepod luciferases required for bioluminescence activity that was revealed by gradual deletions of sequence encoding the smallest MLuc7 isoform of luciferase. The single catalytic domain is shown to reside within the G32-A149 MLuc7 sequence and to be formed by both non-identical repeats, including 10 conserved Cys residues.

Here, we present DNA aptamers capable of specific binding to glial tumor cells , , and for visualization diagnostics of central nervous system tumors. We selected the aptamers binding specifically to the postoperative human glial primary tumors and not to the healthy brain cells and meningioma, using a modified process of systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment to cells; sequenced and analyzed ssDNA pools using bioinformatic tools and identified the best aptamers by their binding abilities; determined three-dimensional structures of lead aptamers (Gli-55 and Gli-233) with small-angle X-ray scattering and molecular modeling; isolated and identified molecular target proteins of the aptamers by mass spectrometry; the potential binding sites of Gli-233 to the target protein and the role of post-translational modifications were verified by molecular dynamics simulations. Based on the intensive monitoring conducted by our team and volunteers in 2021, the secondary range of an alien horse-chestnut leaf miner, Deschka & Dimić, 1986 (Lepidoptera: Gracillariidae), was specified in European Russia. This invasive pest was confirmed in 24 out of 58 administrative regions of Russia, which it has occupied for approximately 16 years. Analysis of the COI mtDNA gene sequenced in 201 specimens collected in 21 regions of the European part of Russia indicates the occurrence of two haplotypes (A and B), which are also present in the secondary range of in Eastern and Western Europe.
