In the current study, extensive Orbitrap mass spectrometry analysis was conducted for skin strain C01 planktonic cultures and biofilms after 24 h and 72 h of incubation either in the presence of epinephrine or without any implementations. The investigation revealed the complex and conditionally extensive effect of epinephrine at concentrations closer to normal blood plasma concentrations on both planktonic cultures and biofilms of skin strain C01. The concentrations of hundreds of proteins changed during the shift from planktonic growth mode to biofilm and hundreds of proteins were downregulated or upregulated in the presence of epinephrine.

When bound to water-soluble proteins of the WSCP family, chlorophyll molecules form dimers structurally similar to the "special pair" of chlorophylls (bacteriochlorophylls) in photosynthetic reaction centers. Being exposed to red light (λ ≥ 650 nm) in oxygen-free solutions, chlorophyll a dimers harbored by BoWSCP holoproteins (from Brassica oleracea var. botrytis) have sensitized the reduction of cytochrome c.

The exponential generation of municipal solid waste (MSW) and landfill disposal without any treatment has increased the continuous generation of landfill leachate. Improper MSW and leachate management are contributing to environmental degradation and water and soil pollution, which must be treated. Numerous works have been conducted on leachate treatments for energy and resource recovery.

Currently, the phenomenon of direct interspecies electron transfer (DIET) is of great interest in the technology of anaerobic digestion (AD) due to potential performance benefits. However, the conditions for the occurrence of DIET and its limits on improving AD under conditions close to real have not been studied enough. This research is concentrated on the effect of conductive carbon cloth (R3), in comparison with a dielectric fiberglass cloth (R2) and control (R1), on the AD performance in large (90 L) thermophilic reactors, fed with a mixture of simulated organic fraction of municipal solid waste and sewage sludge.

Proteins of the SWEET (Sugar Will Eventually be Exported Transporters) family play an important role in plant development, adaptation, and stress response by functioning as transmembrane uniporters of soluble sugars. However, the information on the SWEET family in the plants of the genus, which includes many crop species, is lacking. In this study, we performed a genome-wide analysis of garlic ( L.

Dissecting the intricate networks of covalent and non-covalent interactions that stabilize complex protein structures is notoriously difficult and requires subtle atomic-level exchanges to precisely affect local chemical functionality. The function of the Orange Carotenoid Protein (OCP), a light-driven photoswitch involved in cyanobacterial photoprotection, depends strongly on two H-bonds between the 4-ketolated xanthophyll cofactor and two highly conserved residues in the C-terminal domain (Trp288 and Tyr201). By orthogonal translation, we replaced Trp288 in OCP with 3-benzothienyl--alanine (BTA), thereby exchanging the imino nitrogen for a sulphur atom.

L-asparaginase (L-ASNase) is a vital enzyme with a broad range of applications in medicine, food industry, and diagnostics. Among various organisms expressing L-ASNases, thermophiles and hyperthermophiles produce enzymes with superior performances-stable and heat resistant thermo-ASNases. This review is an attempt to take a broader view on the thermo-ASNases.

The α-crystallin domain (ACD) is the hallmark of a diverse family of small heat shock proteins (sHsps). We investigated some of the ACD properties of five human sHsps as well as their interactions with different full-length sHsps. According to size-exclusion chromatography, at high concentrations, the ACDs of HspB1 (B1ACD), HspB5 (B5ACD) and HspB6 (B6ACD) formed dimers of different stabilities, which, upon dilution, dissociated to monomers to different degrees.

Polyene antifungal amphotericin B (AmB) has been used for over 60 years, and remains a valuable clinical treatment for systemic mycoses, due to its broad antifungal activity and low rate of emerging resistance. There is no consensus on how exactly it kills fungal cells but it is certain that AmB and the closely-related nystatin (Nys) can form pores in membranes and have a higher affinity towards ergosterol than cholesterol. Notably, the high nephro- and hemolytic toxicity of polyenes and their low solubility in water have led to efforts to improve their properties.

Tuberculosis, and especially multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB), is a major global health threat which emphasizes the need to develop new agents to improve and shorten treatment of this difficult-to-manage infectious disease. Among the new agents, macozinone (PBTZ169) is one of the most promising candidates, showing extraordinary potency in vitro and in murine models against drug-susceptible and drug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis. A previous analytical method using liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) was developed by our group to support phase I clinical trials of PBTZ169.

Natamycin is a macrolide polyene antibiotic, characterized by a potent broad spectrum antifungal activity and low toxicity. However, it is not used for the treatment of systemic mycoses due to its low bioavailability and low solubility in aqueous solutions. In order to create new semisynthetic antifungal agents for treatment of mycoses, a series of water-soluble amides of natamycin were synthesized.

A linear anionic polysaccharide, sodium alginate, electrostatically interacts with a cationic polysaccharide, quaternized hydroxyethyl cellulose ethoxylate, in aqueous solution, thus giving an interpolyelectrolyte complex. Aqueous solutions of the initial polysaccharides and polycomplexes with an excess of the cationic or anionic polymers were used for the stabilization of soil and sand against water erosion. Physicochemical, mechanical and biological properties of the polymers and coatings were characterized by gravimetric analysis, viscosimetry, mechanical strength assessment, cell viability, and cell-mediated degradation with the following main conclusions.

Mycobacterium tuberculosis is an extremely successful pathogen known for its ability to cause latent infection. The latter is connected with the bacterium resting state development and is considered to be based on the activity of toxin-antitoxin (TA) systems at least in part. Here we studied the physiological and proteomic consequences of VapC toxin overexpression together with the features of the protein synthesis apparatus and compared them with the characteristics of dormant mycobacterial cells in an M.

is an important industrial microorganism and a widely used model object for research in the field of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) biology. The development of new and related LAB strains with improved properties, including phage-resistant strains for dairy fermentation, LAB-based vaccines or strains with altered genotypes for research purposes, are hindered by the lack of genome-editing tools that allow for the easy and straightforward incorporation of a significant amount of the novel genetic material, such as large genes or operons, into the chromosomes of these bacteria. We recently employed a suggested system based on the CRISPR-Cas-associated transposon for the editing of the genome.

A linear polycation, poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride), electrostatically interacts with anionic latex particles from a carboxylated butadiene-styrene copolymer in aqueous solution thus forming an interpolyelectrolyte complex. A mutual neutralization of oppositely charged latex and polycation groups occurs at = latex/polycation = 50 ratio. At = 27, an ultimate polycation adsorption is reached, resulting in the formation of positive polycomplex particles, while at ˂ 27, two-component systems are formed composed of positive polycomplex particles and free polycation.
