August 2024

Department of Bone and Soft Tissue Tumor, Key Laboratory of Cancer Prevention and Therapy, Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital, National Clinical Research Center for Cancer, Tianjin's Clinical Research Center for Cancer, Tianjin, China.

Background: Radiomics provided opportunities to quantify the tumor phenotype non-invasively. This study extracted contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) radiomic signatures and evaluated clinical features of bone metastasis in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). With the combination of the revealed radiomics and clinical features, the predictive modeling on bone metastasis in NSCLC was established.

Article Synopsis
  • Alzheimer's disease (AD) is primarily caused by the buildup of β-amyloid (Aβ) peptide, which forms plaques in the brains of the elderly, contributing to dementia.
  • * Recent research tracked the accumulation of specific Aβ proteoforms, particularly isoD7-Aβ, in a widely used mouse model (5xFAD) over time using advanced mass spectrometry techniques.
  • * Findings showed that the fraction of isoD7-Aβ in these mice increased significantly with age, suggesting a potential link between this specific proteoform and the progression of AD.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on addressing key challenges in developing regenerative therapies for spinal cord injuries (SCI) by using directly reprogrammed neural precursor cells (drNPCs) as a potential solution for safe and effective treatment.
  • Researchers performed intraspinal transplantation of drNPCs in seven non-human primates with complete thoracic SCI, comparing the results against a control group receiving a vehicle injection.
  • Findings showed significant recovery in hindlimb function, neurological assessments, and maintained cell multipotency, indicating that drNPC transplantation is a safe and promising approach for enhancing spinal cord function post-injury.

In this work, an optimal protocol was developed for obtaining adhesion culture of neural stem/progenitor cells (NSPC) of rat olfactory mucosa. During the development of the protocol, the conditions for cell culturing on adhesion substrates fibronectin and laminin in DMEM/F-12 and neurobasal media with the same culture additives were compared. Cell proliferation was maximum during culturing on both substrates in the neurobasal medium.
