, a newly coined term deriving from the contraction of mask-related acne, is a form of mechanical acne resulting from continuous textile-skin adherence and friction. Prolonged mask use heats up the face environment, thus modifying skin microbiota and sebum production. We present three children with tinea incognito initially misdiagnosed as allergic contact dermatitis to face masks. • Seborrhoeic dermatitis (SD) is a chronic skin condition influenced by the skin microbiome, with ketoconazole being a commonly used treatment option, but its effects on the microbiome are not well-studied.
  • A study involving 30 SD patients and 15 healthy controls utilized DNA sequencing to analyze microbial communities on the skin before, during, and after ketoconazole treatment.
  • Results indicated lower bacterial and fungal diversity in SD patients, with notable shifts in microbial populations following treatment, including increased diversity and certain fungal species at lesional sites.

Recently, the concept of a gut-skin axis has gained momentum in the understanding of inflammatory dermatoses, with nutrition considered a contributing factor in this context.

Objective: We sought to determine the incidence of RFDD in patients receiving dupilumab and the rate of resolution of RFDD after expanded series patch testing (ESPT) and allergen avoidance.

Methods: This is a retrospective chart review of 80 patients with atopic dermatitis who were evaluated for RFDD after treatment with dupilumab. Expanded series patch testing findings and response to allergen avoidance were assessed in the subset of patients with RFDD who subsequently underwent ESPT while continuing to receive dupilumab.

Use of a facial mask is a necessity during the current pandemic. The associated occlusion with extended daily use can lead to physiological changes in the skin with resultant irritation, itching, and infections. This can lead to exacerbation of pre-existing dermatoses or induction of irritant dermatitis or bacterial folliculitis.
