Effect of Pravastatin on Kidney Function in Patients with Dyslipidemia and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: A Multicenter Prospective Observational Study.

Introduction: Several studies have reported that pravastatin can mitigate the progression of kidney disease, but limited evidence exists regarding its effects on kidney function in Asian patients. This multicenter prospective observational study aimed to assess the effect of pravastatin on kidney function in Korean patients with dyslipidemia and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in clinical practice.

Methods: This 48-week prospective multicenter study included 2604 of 2997 eligible patients with dyslipidemia and T2DM who had available estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) measurements.

Improving self-dependency in Pakistan: Experience of a locally prepared automated PD machine.

The increasing burden of haemodialysis on healthcare systems merits efforts to make peritoneal dialysis (PD) more accessible to the population in need of kidney replacement therapy. Automated PD (APD) may be a suitable alternative to continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis for home dialysis especially for children, elderly and patients who lead a busy schedule in their jobs thus leaving more time for personal and family activities during the day. Recently, a local bioengineering company took the initiative to develop a locally manufactured, low-cost APD cycler in Pakistan, with an aim to improve the self-dependency and home-based kidney replacement therapy.

Objective This study aimed to compare the soft tissue chin (STC) thickness at different levels in patients presenting for orthodontic treatment with different vertical facial types. Materials and methods This comparative cross-sectional study was conducted at Sharif Medical & Dental College, Lahore, Pakistan, on 195 subjects. Patients presenting for orthodontic treatment, both genders, aged from 18 to 32 years, and Pakistani nationals were included.

Pattern of cytopenias and systemic immune-inflammation index among hospitalised patients of COVID-19.

Objective: To compare the extent of cytopenias and systemic immune inflammation index of hospitalised coronavirus disease-2019 patients during the first and second/third waves of the pandemic.

Methods: The retrospective, cross-sectional study was conducted in October 2021 at Fatima Memorial Hospital, Lahore, Pakistan, and comprised data of hospitalised coronavirus disease-2019 patients regardless of age and gender from May 2020 to June 2021. Data was segregated into first wave that lasted from May to July 2020, second wave that lasted from early November to mid-December 2020, and third wave that ranged from mid-March to June 2021.

Mycophenolate mofetil vs. cyclophosphamide-based induction regimens for lupus nephritis: Outcomes at a tertiary care centre in Lahore, Pakistan.

Objectives: To compare the efficacy of mycophenolate mofetil with intravenous cyclophosphamideas induction therapy in lupus nephritis.

Methods: The observational, prospecrive, cohort study was conducted at the Rheumatology Department of Fatima Memorial Hospital, Lahore, Pakistan, from July 2016 to June 2019, and comprised lupus nephritis patients. For induction therapy, the patients were assigned at the discretion of the treating rheumatologist to mycophenolate mofetil group MMF, and intravenous cyclophosphamide group CYC.

Multidisciplinary Management of Obstructed Hemivagina and Ipsilateral Renal Anomaly (OHVIRA) Syndrome in an Adolescent With Complex Congenital Anomalies: A Case Report.

Obstructed hemivagina and ipsilateral renal anomaly (OHVIRA) syndrome presents with complex diagnostic and therapeutic challenges and is characterized by uterine didelphys, obstructed hemivagina, and ipsilateral renal anomaly. A 14-year-old female with a history of anorectal malformation and urogenital sinus anomaly presented with menstrual blood in her urine, abdominal pain, and distension. Investigations revealed a bicornuate uterus, vesicovaginal fistula, and right ovarian cyst, leading to the diagnosis of OHVIRA syndrome.

In-hospital outcomes with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation alone versus combined with percutaneous left ventricular assist device.

Background: Veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is associated with increased afterload and hindered myocardial recovery. This systematic review examined the association between depression and myocardial infarction with non-obstructive coronary arteries (MINOCA). A comprehensive literature search was conducted using electronic databases, resulting in the inclusion of six small case-control and cohort studies reported from Spain, Australia, China, and Pakistan. Comparison of Laparoscopic Intraperitoneal Onlay Mesh (IPOM) Hernioplasty With Laparoscopic IPOM-Plus: Our Initial Experience in Pakistan.

Objectives Laparoscopic intraperitoneal onlay mesh hernioplasty (IPOM) for ventral hernias has been used for a long time. However, there have been some issues associated with it, thereby leading to the introduction of a new technique that involves laparoscopic closure of the fascial defect with suture followed by intraperitoneal onlay mesh placement (IPOM-Plus). We carried out this study to compare the outcome of laparoscopic IPOM with fascial defect closure versus without defect closure in midline ventral hernia repair in terms of recurrence.
