Systemic amyloidosis involves the deposition of misfolded proteins in organs/tissues, leading to progressive organ dysfunction and failure. Congo red is the gold-standard chemical stain for visualizing amyloid deposits in tissue, showing birefringence under polarization microscopy. However, Congo red staining is tedious and costly to perform, and prone to false diagnoses due to variations in amyloid amount, staining quality and manual examination of tissue under a polarization microscope.

Background: There is insufficient replicated data to establish a relationship between the polymorphisms of SLC6A2 and CYP2D6 and the treatment responses of atomoxetine (ATX) in ADHD. We focused on evaluating the effect of top-line single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in SLC6A2 and CYP2D6 on the ATX treatment response in attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Methods: Of 160 patient records, 34 patients who met the inclusion criteria were evaluated to determine the relationship between genotypes of ten SNPs (six of SLC6A2 and four of CYP2D6) and ATX treatment response.

Fibre bundle (FB)-based endoscopes are indispensable in biology and medical science due to their minimally invasive nature. However, resolution and contrast for fluorescence imaging are limited due to characteristic features of the FBs, such as low numerical aperture (NA) and individual fibre core sizes. In this study, we improved the resolution and contrast of sample fluorescence images acquired using in-house fabricated high-NA FBs by utilising generative adversarial networks (GANs).

Introduction: Cognitive impairment (CI) is a significant non-motor symptoms in Parkinson's disease (PD) that often precedes the emergence of motor symptoms by several years. Patients with PD hypothetically progress from stages without CI (PD-normal cognition [NC]) to stages with Mild CI (PD-MCI) and PD dementia (PDD). CI symptoms in PD are linked to different brain regions and neural pathways, in addition to being the result of dysfunctional subcortical regions.

Although it is known that the relative abundance of Akkermansia, a bacterial genus commonly associated with health, increases in the gut microbiota of Parkinson's disease (PD) patients, the exact reason for this increase remains unclear. This study was aimed to identify potential changes in Akkermansia within the gut microbiota of PD patients in Türkiye. For this purpose, shotgun metagenomics and a novel Akkermansia genus-specific amplicon sequencing technique was used to investigate the presence of specific Akkermansia strains associated with cognitive impairment (CI) stages in PD and to examine potential genes within these strains.

Aluminum-based cellular structures are gaining a huge traction in several applications, including lightweight aircraft, military equipment, and heat exchangers. With additive manufacturing, the fabrication of complex periodic cellular structures with any unit cell form, size, and volume fraction has become a lot easier, allowing for more investment, research, and attention from both academia and industry. The aim of the research was to assess the manufacturability and performance of AlSi10Mg periodic cellular structures generated using the laser powder bed fusion process.

Cognitive impairment (CI) is very common in patients with Parkinson's Disease (PD) and progressively develops on a spectrum from mild cognitive impairment (PD-MCI) to full dementia (PDD). Identification of PD patients at risk of developing cognitive decline, therefore, is unmet need in the clinic to manage the disease. Previous studies reported that oral microbiota of PD patients was altered even at early stages and poor oral hygiene is associated with dementia.

Climate change is a global phenomenon that directly affects agriculture by altering crop yield, nutritional quality, pests, and plant diseases. The North Aegean Basin located in Turkey has considerable agricultural importance due to its fertile soils. Agricultural activities have increased significantly and uncontrollably in the last decade, resulting in dramatic changes in nitrate and phosphorus levels in surface water within the watershed.

In the production of geometries that traditional methods cannot produce, it is seen that additive manufacturing (AM) technology, which has come to the fore, has been used extensively in conformal cooling channel (CCC) applications in recent years. This study, conducted within the scope of CCC's use of applied mold cores in automotive industry plastic part production, aimed to reduce the cycle time in the injection printing process. The v1 geometry, which gives the analysis results for ideal printing quality from the channel geometries developed with three different design approaches, is produced with direct metal laser sintering, which is an AM laser sintering technology, and the injection printing cycle time has been reduced by 38%.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) and major depressive disorder (MDD) are comorbid neuropsychiatric disorders that are among the leading causes of long-term disability worldwide. Recent research has indicated the existence of parallel molecular mechanisms between AD and MDD in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC). However, the premorbid history and molecular mechanisms have not yet been well characterized.

The utilization of nanotechnology in regenerative medicine has been globally proven to be the main solution to many issues faced with tissue engineering today, and the theoretical and empirical investigations of the association of nanomaterials with stem cells have made significant progress as well. For their ability to self-renew and differentiate into a variety of cell types, stem cells have become popular candidates for cell treatment in recent years, particularly in cartilage and Ocular regeneration. However, there are still several challenges to overcome before it may be used in a wide range of therapeutic contexts.

Culture plays an important role in the development of mental health, especially during childhood and adolescence. However, less is known about how participation in cultural rituals is related to the wellbeing of youth who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), and part of the Global Majority. This is crucial amid the COVID-19 pandemic, a global event that has disproportionally affected BIPOC youth and disrupted participation in rituals.

The design of wastewater system pipe size is traditionally based on the maximum wastewater flow that is a function of multiple factors. Understanding the appropriate peaking factors (PF) by using daily flow variations through wastewater collection systems (WWCS) is essential for cost-effective design. This paper describes the maximum and minimum PFs by using wastewater flow data of four separate residential areas such as Lara, Belek-1, Kemer, and Hurma in Antalya, which is the tourism capital of Turkey.
