Background: The Pulmonary Embolism Rule-Out Criteria (PERC), developed to minimize unnecessary testing in low-risk pulmonary embolism (PE) cases, lacks clear validation in the context of COVID-19.
Objectives: To assess the validity of the PERC in emergency department patients having undergone computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of emergency department patients who underwent CTPA for suspected PE.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of vitreomacular interface disorders (VMID) on treatment response in patients treated with anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) due to diabetic macular edema (DME).
Methods: Three hundred seventy-seven eyes of 239 patients in the MARMASIA Study Group who received intravitreal anti-VEGF treatment (IVT) due to DME were included in the study. The group 1 consisted of 44 eyes of the patients who had not received any treatment before, were followed up regularly for 24 months after at least a 3-month loading dose, and suffered from VMID such as epiretinal membrane, vitreomacular adhesion or traction, and lamellar hole.

Systemic amyloidosis involves the deposition of misfolded proteins in organs/tissues, leading to progressive organ dysfunction and failure. Congo red is the gold-standard chemical stain for visualizing amyloid deposits in tissue, showing birefringence under polarization microscopy. However, Congo red staining is tedious and costly to perform, and prone to false diagnoses due to variations in amyloid amount, staining quality and manual examination of tissue under a polarization microscope.

Introduction: Despite the efforts and support of the World Health Organization and other international organizations to reduce the incidence of the disease, tetanus is still an acute condition with serious consequences, including death. The purpose of this study was to assess the tetanus patients we have been monitoring over the past two years in Somalia, a country with a protracted civil conflict, extreme poverty, and restricted access to hospital, social security, and public health facilities.
Methods: This study includes tetanus patients who were admitted to the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Training and Research Hospital in Mogadishu, Somalia, Turkey between January 1, 2022, and November 1, 2023.

Objectives: The objectives of the study are to assess the peripapillary choroidal thickness (PPCT), retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL), and optic nerve head (ONH) parameters in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients compared to healthy subjects.
Methods: One hundred and twenty-eight eyes from 64 patients were included in this cross-sectional study. Eighty-two eyes of 41 MS patients and 46 eyes of 23 healthy subjects were examined.

Purpose: This study aimed to compare the effect of intravitreal aflibercept (IVA) and ranibizumab (IVR) on the maximal diameter of the largest intraretinal cyst (mdIRC), indicating chronicity in patients with diabetic cystoid macular edema (CME).
Methods: This retrospective, comparative study included a subgroup of patients from the MARMASIA Study with treatment-naïve diabetic CME who had IVA (IVA group) or IVR (IVR group) on a pro re nata regimen after a loading dose of 3-monthly injections and followed-up for 24 months. Best-corrected visual acuity (logMAR), central macular thickness (CMT, µm), and mdIRC (µm) and their changes during the study period in the IVA and IVR groups were compared.

Some mycoviruses can be considered as effective biocontrol agents, mitigating the impact of phytopathogenic fungi and consequently reducing disease outbreaks while promoting plant health. , the causal agent of chestnut blight and a highly destructive pathogen, experienced a notable decrease in its virulence with the identification of cryphonectria hypovirus 1 (CHV1), a naturally occurring biocontrol agent. In this study, two innovative diagnostic protocols designed for the accurate and efficient detection of CHV1 are introduced.

Aim: There is no universally accepted treatment consensus for haemorrhoids, and thus, management has been individualized all over the world. This study was conducted to assess a global view of how surgeons manage haemorrhoids.
Methods: The research panel of the International Society of University Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ISUCRS) developed a voluntary, anonymous questionnaire evaluating surgeons' experience, volume and treatment approaches to haemorrhoids.

Background: There is insufficient replicated data to establish a relationship between the polymorphisms of SLC6A2 and CYP2D6 and the treatment responses of atomoxetine (ATX) in ADHD. We focused on evaluating the effect of top-line single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in SLC6A2 and CYP2D6 on the ATX treatment response in attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Methods: Of 160 patient records, 34 patients who met the inclusion criteria were evaluated to determine the relationship between genotypes of ten SNPs (six of SLC6A2 and four of CYP2D6) and ATX treatment response.

Objectives: Parkinson's disease (PD) involves the progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons and the accumulation of α-synuclein. Elevated cholesterol levels may exacerbate α-synuclein aggregation, potentially contributing to PD. This study investigates the link between lipid profiles and PD severity, as well as cognitive functions in patients, aiming to inform pathogenesis and management strategies.

Background: Diabetes foot infection is a very important public health problem that causes serious health problems, mortality, and high health expenditures, and is one of the most important complications of diabetes mellitus. There are concerns that approaches such as limited personal visits to doctors, avoidance of hospitals, and restrictions on nonemergency surgical procedures during the coronavirus disease of 2019 pandemic pose a threat to those with diabetic foot problems, including diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), ischemia, and infection, resulting in increased limb loss and mortality.
Methods: This multicenter, retrospective, cross-sectional study was conducted in 14 tertiary care hospitals from various regions of Turkey.

The clinical management of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH)-associated vasospasm remains a challenge in neurosurgical practice, with its prevention and treatment having a major impact on neurological outcome. While considered a mainstay, nimodipine is burdened by some non-negligible limitations that make it still a suboptimal candidate of pharmacotherapy for SAH. This narrative review aims to provide an update on the pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, overall evidence, and strength of recommendation of nimodipine alternative drugs for aneurysmal SAH-associated vasospasm and delayed cerebral ischemia.

The relationship between demographic/clinical characteristics, clinical outcomes and the development of hemorrhagic complications in patients with ischemic stroke who underwent reperfusion therapy has not been studied sufficiently. We have aimed to compare genders and age groups in terms of clinical features and outcome; and types of reperfusion treatments and clinical features regarding the development of hemorrhagic complications in patients with ischemic stroke who underwent recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rtPA) and/or thrombectomy. Patients with acute ischemic stroke undergoing rtPA and/or thrombectomy were divided into six age groups.
