Observation, experimentation/measuring, and scientific explanations are examples of the methods of the philosophy of science.

MEFV mutation frequencies in a Turkish cohort with low prevalence of familial Mediterranean fever.

Background/aim: Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is a genetically recessive autoinflammatory disease caused by mutations in the Mediterranean fever (MEFV) gene. The aim of this study was to investigate the frequencies of the most common MEFV mutations among a sample of healthy individuals from the Havsa population of European Turkey, where FMF is less prevalent compared to Asian Turkey.

Schwannomas are common, well-encapsulated benign tumors of the peripheral nerves. They rarely emerge from the median nerve in the forearm. Here we report a case of an unusual schwannoma measuring 3 × 4 × 3 cm originating from the median nerve in the proximal forearm of a 49-year-old man.

Background And Objectives: The Analgesia Nociception Index is an index used to measure the levels of pain, sympathetic system activity and heart rate variability during general anesthesia. In our study, Analgesia Nociception Index monitoring in two groups who had undergone spinal stabilization surgery and were administered propofol-remifentanil (Total Intravenous Anesthesia) and sevoflurane-remifentanyl anesthesia was compared regarding its significance for prediction of postoperative early pain.

We investigated the effect of uterine artery blood flow on recurrent pregnancy loss. One hundred and twelve patients admitted to our clinic were included in the prospective study. The study group consisted of 28 cases with a history of three miscarriages before the 20th gestational week, and the control group consisted of cases with at least one prior live birth without any history of miscarriage or poor obstetric outcome.
