Introduction: Atherosclerosis might diminish the nutrient supply to intervertebral discs (IVD), leading to disc herniation. Therefore, there is interest in determining the possible association between the blood lipid profile and lumbar disc herniation (LDH). We aimed to evaluate the association between blood lipids and LDH in a homogeneous group of patients, controlling for age- and sex-specific effects.

Bone mineral density (BMD) might be a risk factor for lumbar disc herniation (LDH) in young adults, but there is not enough data concerning this effect. Several studies have been performed on elderly and osteoporotic patients. Thus, we aimed to investigate the effect of BMD on the etiopathogenesis of LDH in young adults.

Purpose: To determine whether or not there were any differences in the measurement techniques used by orthopedic and radiology specialists in the evaluation of magnetic resonance (MR) images for the diagnosis of patella alta in adolescents.
Materials And Methods: Evaluations were performed by three orthopedic specialists (Group I) and three radiology specialists (Group II) regarding the presence of patella alta in 40 adolescents cases using the Insall-Salvati, Caton-Deschamps, Blackburne-Peel, and modified Insall-Salvati indices on MR images obtained to diagnose patellar instability.
Results: The Fleiss Kappa conformity levels for Insall-Salvati, Caton-Deschamps, Blackburne-Peel, and modified Insall-Salvati measurements were 0.

Introduction: Recent studies have demonstrated the neuroprotective and immunomodulatory effects of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (calcitriol), but no previous study has examined these effects on spinal cord ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate whether calcitriol protects the spinal cord from I/R injury.
Methods: Rabbits were randomized into four groups of eight animals: group 1 (laparotomy control), group 2 (ischemia control), group 3 (30mg/kg intraperitoneal methylprednisolone at surgery), and group 4 (0.

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder associated with both microvascular and macrovascular complications. Mean platelet volume (MPV) is a marker of platelet activity, which plays a major role in the development of vascular complications of DM. The aim of this study is to compare the MPV levels before and after the decrease of glycated hemoglobin (HbA) levels in a large diabetic population.

BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to present the clinical results of our retrospective series of carpal tunnel release (CTR) operations. For these operations we used a unique type of incision, for the first time, for treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) consisting of a 1-cm semi-vertical (SV) incision made into the wrist crease for macroscopic open CTR. MATERIAL AND METHODS This retrospective study included 114 patients (101 females and 13 males) with CTR who were operated upon in our neurosurgery clinic between December 2010 and June 2015.

The Spinal Cord Injury Spasticity Evaluation Tool is a 7-day recall self-reported questionnaire that assesses the problematic and useful effects of spasticity on daily life in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI). We aimed to determine the reliability and cross-cultural validation of the Turkish translation of the Spinal Cord Injury Spasticity Evaluation Tool (SCI-SETT). After translation and back translation of the Spinal Cord Injury Spasticity Evaluation Tool, 66 patients between the ages of 18 and 88 years with SCI, American Spinal Injury Association impairment scale grades from A to D with spasticity, and at least 6 months after injury were assessed.

This study compared 20 children hospitalised with acute patellofemoral dislocation with an age-matched healthy control group with no history of knee problems or patellar dislocation. The following morphological parameters were significantly different between the groups: the mean patellar width and length, mean sulcus depth, mean patellar tendon width and total patellar volume. The magnetic resonance imaging findings of this study suggested that structurally smaller than normal patella and patellar tendon volumes are predisposing factors for acute patellofemoral dislocation.
