Aim: To compare the impact of fifth- and seventh-generation bonding agents on the microleakage between Embrace WetBond sealants and Ionoseal.

Materials And Methods: Forty extracted human premolar teeth were used for the study and grouped according to different sealants and bonding agents-group I: Embrace WetBond sealant with fifth-generation bonding agent; group II: Embrace WetBond sealant with seventh-generation bonding agent; group III: Ionoseal with fifth-generation bonding agent; group IV: Ionoseal with seventh-generation bonding agent. For microleakage evaluation, all the teeth were subjected to invasive sealant placement using the respective sealant materials in combination with bonding agents as specified.

Objective: Nasal morphology remodeling by nasoalveolar molding (NAM) before primary lip repair gives better post-surgery outcomes. However, traditional NAM has high technical sensitivity, a steep learning curve, frequent need for modifications, and interrupts lifting forces on the nasal cartilage during oral movements, thereby reducing overall efficacy of device. To eliminate interaction and interdependency of the nasal bulb with alveolar molding plate, we propose segmenting NAM (SNAM) into nasolabial complex molding (NCM) and alveolar complex molding (ACM).

The prostaglandins (PG) a group of physiologically active lipid compounds having diverse hormone like effects are important mediators of the body's response to pain and inflammation, and are formed from essential fatty acids found in cell membranes. This reaction is catalyzed by cyclooxygenase, a membrane associated enzyme occurring in two isoforms, COX-1 and COX-2. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) act by inhibiting the activity of COX.

Background: Saliva plays a major role in preserving the integrity of oral tissues. The oral health of renal failure patients could be negatively affected by the underlying pathology, the dialysis treatment, or an altered salivary composition. Major systemic changes occur during hemodialysis (HD), which could affect the flow rate and biochemical composition of saliva.

Pseudolymphoma versus lymphoma: An important diagnostic decision.

J Oral Maxillofac Pathol

September 2016

Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Farooqia Dental College, Mysuru, Karnataka, India.

Small innocuous growths on the face usually do not pose difficulty in diagnosis on histopathology. However, some benign inflammatory lesions might mimic malignancy and hence need further investigations for final diagnosis. The distinction between a benign/inflammatory/malignant lesion needs no emphasis as the treatment plan, prognosis and the patient's well-being depends on it.

Dermoid Cyst of Submental Region Mimicking Pilomatricoma.

J Maxillofac Oral Surg

July 2016

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Farooqia Dental College and Hospital, Mysore, 570021 Karnataka.

Diagnosis of midline neck swellings may give a myriad of options, ranging from ranula, thyroglossal duct cyst, cystic hygroma, cystic lymphangioma, epidermoid, dermoid and teratoid cysts to benign or malignant neoplasms of the mucosa or salivary glands and also rare skin appendage tumours like pilomatricoma or pilomatrix carcinoma. Various pitfalls are encountered in diagnosing these midline swellings as most of the features are overlapping. Careful history and examination have to be complemented with other diagnostic aids such as conventional radiography, ultrasonography, aspiration cytology and computed tomography to arrive at a correct diagnosis.

Context: Assessment of potential for malignant transformation of oral submucous fibrosis (OSF) through clinical or light microscopic examination of hematoxylin and eosin stained tissue sections is not totally satisfactory. The search is for such a tissue marker that will differentiate those cases of OSF, which carry a higher risk for malignant transformation. During the past few years, numerous workers have validated the usefulness of enumerating argyrophilic nucleolar organizer regions (AgNORs) in predicting the malignant potential of lesions.

Oral exophytic lesions often have proven to be diagnostically challenging due to the varied clinical presentation. The exophytic growth of the oral lesions is due to the type of pathology and histological changes. Careful clinical interpretation with a better histological understanding of exophytic lesions may ease the diagnosis from the differential diagnosis panel.

Eosinophilic ulcers are rare, benign, reactive and often self-limiting lesions of the oral cavity. Although the aetiology is not clear, trauma is believed to play a role in their development. Clinically, the lesion manifests as an isolated ulcer, with raised, indurated borders and a yellow fibrinous floor; because of its long duration it often leads to the suspicion of squamous cell carcinoma.

The Cemento-ossifying fibroma (COF) is an odontogenic neoplasm that is predominantly considered as a fibro osseous lesion of the jaw bone. The histogenetic origin of COF was thought to be derived from the periodontal cells, which have the ability to form fibrous, cementum and osseous tissue. Due to the periodontal cellular origin, the lesion often occurs in the radicular portion of the bicuspid and molar tooth region of the lower jaw.
