L. (GA) belonging to the Globulariaceae family is a Mediterranean plant which is widely used in traditional Tunisian medicine. The aim of this study was to investigate the phytochemical composition, antioxidant, anti-arthritic, antiproliferative, antibacterial and antibiofilm potential of aqueous GA leaf extracts (AGAL).

The Delta variant wave in Tunisia: Genetic diversity, spatio-temporal distribution and evidence of the spread of a divergent AY.122 sub-lineage.

Introduction: The Delta variant posed an increased risk to global public health and rapidly replaced the pre-existent variants worldwide. In this study, the genetic diversity and the spatio-temporal dynamics of 662 SARS-CoV2 genomes obtained during the Delta wave across Tunisia were investigated.

Methods: Viral whole genome and partial S-segment sequencing was performed using Illumina and Sanger platforms, respectively and lineage assignemnt was assessed using Pangolin version 1.

Severe childhood lichen planus pemphigoides after hepatitis A vaccination.

Background: Lichen planus (LP) pemphigoides (LPP) is a very rare autoimmune bullous disorder, that is, exceptional in children.

Case Report: We report a case of LP pemphigoides with severe cutaneous and mucosal involvement in an 8-year-old girl who consulted for multiple vesicular and bullous lesions associated with shiny erythematous-purple plaques. The eruption occurred 2 months after vaccination against hepatitis A virus.

Reversibility of pancreatic β-cells dysfunction after vitamin D and calcium supplementation: a pilot study in a population of obese and prepubescent North-African children.

The mechanisms of diabetogenesis in children remain largely obscure. This study aimed to determine the impact of vitamin D and calcium supplementation on pancreatic β-cells function in terms of insulin secretion and sensitivity. This was a quasi-experimental study involving 30 obese and prepubescent Tunisian children (57% boys).

Optical coherence tomography angiography vessel density parameters in primary open-angle glaucoma.

Background: Many studies suggest the existence of an alteration of the retinal hemoperfusion in primary open-angle glaucoma. The OCT-A is a novel technique that allows to provide information on retinal microcirculation in a non-invasive way, thus it represents a possible imaging target for the early diagnosis and follow-up of glaucoma. The aim of our work is to evaluate the contribution of vascular parameters provided by OCT-A and their diagnostic abilities in the different stages of primary open-angle glaucoma.

Lung function parameters among Australian Aboriginal 'apparently healthy' adults: an Australian Caucasian and Global Lung Function Initiative (GLI-2012) various ethnic norms comparative study.

: There is sparse literature evidence evaluating the applicability of the GLI-2012 spirometric norms for Australian Aboriginal adults.: Lung function parameters (LFPs) were compared between Australian Aboriginal and Australian Caucasians, and the fit of Australian Aboriginals LFPs with various ethnic GLI equations was tested.: Of 1350 and 5634 Pulmonary function tests (PFTs) in Australian Aboriginal and Australian Caucasian adults, 153 and 208 PFTs matched for anthropometrics and normal chest radiology, respectively.

Methylation of miR124a-1, miR124a-2, and miR124a-3 in Hodgkin lymphoma.

Deregulation of the microRNA miR124a by DNA methylation has been implicated in various malignancies, but no study reported its methylation status in Hodgkin lymphoma (HL). We evaluated the methylation of the three loci encoding for miR124a using methylation-specific PCR in 64 HL patients and 15 reactive lymph nodes obtained from patients with nonmalignant diseases. Results were correlated with clinicopathological parameters.

The presence of JC virus in gastric carcinomas correlates with patient's age, intestinal histological type and aberrant methylation of tumor suppressor genes.

JC virus (JCV) is a neurotropic polyomavirus and the causative agent of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy. A role for JCV in gastrointestinal malignancies has been recently suggested. This study was carried out to determine the prevalence of polyomaviruses including JCV, BKV and SV40 in gastric cancers in Tunisia and to determine the clinicopathological characteristics of virus-associated gastric carcinomas.

Biological significance of promoter hypermethylation of tumor-related genes in patients with gastric carcinoma.

Background: DNA promoter hypermethylation is a potential means of inactivating tumor-related genes in several types of cancers.

Methods: We investigated aberrant promoter hypermethylation of eleven tumor-related genes in 68 gastric carcinomas and 53 adjacent non-tumor tissues using methylation-specific PCR, and we correlated the findings with clinico-pathological features.

Results: In gastric carcinoma tissues, hypermethylation frequencies of the investigated genes were 61.

Prognostic significance of aberrant promoter hypermethylation of CpG islands in patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphomas.

Background: Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) exhibits heterogeneous clinical features and a marked variable response to treatment.

Patients And Methods: We investigated the prognostic significance of the methylation status of DAPK, GSTP1, P14, P15, P16, P33, RB1, SHP1, CDH1, APC, BLU, VHL, TIMP3, and RASSF1A genes in 46 DLBCL specimens from Tunisian patients. Methylation status of each gene was correlated with clinicopathological parameters including the International Prognostic Index (IPI), the germinal center immunophenotype, and response to treatment and survival.
