Pleomorphic Adenoma of the Palate: Diagnostic and Surgical Strategy.

Pleomorphic adenoma is a benign tumor of the salivary glands. It develops preferentially in the parotid gland. The authors report a localization of a pleomorphic adenoma on the palate and discuss the value of CT scan in therapeutic strategy.

Surgical Treatment of Upper Cervical Spine Trauma: Experience in a Regional Neurosurgery Unit in a Country with Limited Health Care Resources-About 22 Consecutives Cases.

 Representing approximately 22% of cervical spine injuries, upper cervical spine injuries are becoming more frequent with the increase in road traffic accidents. The purpose of our study is to evaluate the results of our surgical series and to compare them with the literature.  In this monocentric retrospective study of over three years (June 2019-May 2022), all the patients with traumatic injuries of the upper cervical spine with a surgical treatment and a minimum of 12 months follow-up were included.

Case Report: Lingual Tuberculosis Reveaed by a Cold Abcess.

Tuberculosis is the most common infectious disease in the world and the lingual location represents less than 1% of extra-pulmonary forms. We report a case of primary lingual tuberculosis which was presented to us in the form of a cold abscess in a 46-year-old alcohol and tobacco drinker weaned for 01 years. Confirmation was histological after biopsy of the lesion.

Spinal metastases of bronchopulmonary cancer: Role of spinal surgery and value of prognostic scores (Modified Tokuhashi and Tomita).

Introduction: Bone metastasis is frequent in bronchopulmonary cancer. We report a series of 52 patients, and analyze indications and the efficacy of surgery.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively studied the records of 52 patients operated on for spinal metastases of bronchopulmonary cancer over a 6-year period from January 2009 to December 2014 in the neurosurgery department of the North Hospital of Marseille, France.

Spectrum of movement disorders: Experience of a one and half year of existence of the first specialized center in Senegal.

Introduction: Pediatric aneurysms are uncommon but potentially deadly clinical conditions with varied etiology and outcomes. In low-resource countries, numerous barriers prevent the timely diagnosis and management of pediatric aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). Thus, this study aimed to assess the mortality of pediatric aSAH stemming from limited access to pediatric neurological surgery care in Senegal.

State of Neurosurgical Education in Africa: A Narrative Review.

Background: There is no comprehensive report of neurosurgery postgraduate education in Africa. This narrative review aimed to map out the landscape of neurosurgery training in Africa and highlight similarities and differences in training.

Methods: The keywords "neurosurgery," "education," and "Africa" were searched on PubMed and Google Scholar from inception to January 17, 2021.

History of African women in neurosurgery.

The number of women in the medical field has increased in Africa over the last few decades, yet the underrepresentation of women within neurosurgery has been a recurrent theme. Of all surgical disciplines, neurosurgery is among the least equitable, and the rate of increase in female surgeons lags behind other surgical disciplines such as general surgery. This historical review provides an overview of the history of women in neurosurgery and their current status on the African continent.

Epilepsy surgery in Africa: state of the art and challenges.

Objective: Epilepsy is an important public health problem representing 0.6% of the global burden of disease that particularly impacts people living in the lowest income countries where epilepsy incidence may be 10 fold more than in the developed world. Etiological factors of childhood ischemic stroke depend on the epidemiological context. The purpose of this study was to determine the risk factors, the clinical and radiologic features, and the outcome of arterial ischemic stroke in a case series of Senegalese children. We carried out a retrospective registry-based study on arterial ischemic stroke in children hospitalized in the neurology department of Fann Teaching Hospital and Albert Royer Children's Hospital, from January 2005 to December 2015.

Pediatric intracranial aneurysms in Senegal: a series of 10 cases treated in unfavorable socio-economic conditions.

Objective: The aim of this study is to show the characteristics of pediatric intracranial aneurysms in a sub-Saharan country and to analyze the results of treatment in this challenging medical environment.

An Unusual Laryngeal Foreign Body in Adult.

The accidental aspiration of a foreign body is a frequent domestic accident among children but a rare occurrence in adults. The laryngeal impaction of a coin is an unusual accident; only a few cases have been reported in the literature. Diagnosis is mostly achieved by clinicoradiological examinations.

Yield of repeated intermittent EEG for seizure detection in critically ill adults.

Introduction: Seizures are common in critically ill patients and prevalence can exceed 30% in the neuro-intensive care unit (ICU). Continuous EEG monitoring (cEEG) is the gold standard for seizure detection in critically ill patients.

Objectives: To determine the yield of intermittent EEG (iEEG) to detect critically ill adult patients with seizures and to identify the factors that affect this yield.

Managing neurocysticercosis: challenges and solutions.

Taenia solium neurocysticercosis (NCC) is a major cause of neurological morbidity in the world. Variability in the neuropathology and clinical presentation of NCC often make it difficult to diagnose and manage. Diagnosis of NCC can be challenging especially in endemic and resource-limited countries where laboratory and imaging techniques are often lacking.
