Introduction: Heart failure (HF) is a clinical syndrome characterized by cardinal symptoms that may be accompanied by signs. It results from structural and/or functional abnormalities of the heart leading to elevated intracardiac pressures and/or inadequate cardiac output at rest and/or during exercise. The prevalence of iron deficiency and anemia justifies the current guidelines recommendation of screening.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the awareness of cardiovascular disease risks among patients with systemic autoimmune diseases like SSc, SLE, RA, and SS, revealing a significant gap in understanding their elevated risk levels.
  • - A survey of 180 patients showed mixed perceptions about cardiovascular risk, with 56% believing they were at higher risk but only 45% recognizing their autoimmune condition's contribution to heart attack risk.
  • - The research found correlations between actual cardiovascular risk and comorbidities in RA, SSc, and SS, highlighting the need for better education on these risks, particularly among SLE patients who did not show similar associations.

Cancer patients often undergo rounds of trial-and-error to find the most effective treatment because there is no test in the clinical practice for predicting therapy response. Here, we conduct a clinical study to validate the zebrafish patient-derived xenograft model (zAvatar) as a fast predictive platform for personalized treatment in colorectal cancer. zAvatars are generated with patient tumor cells, treated exactly with the same therapy as their corresponding patient and analyzed at single-cell resolution.

Doxorubicin (DOX) is commonly used in several chemotherapies to treat various cancers, but it is known to cause cardiotoxicity and cardiac symptoms. Autonomic dysfunction is thought to contribute to the cardiotoxic effects of DOX, but the specific dose required to disrupt homeostatic processes is still unclear and is influenced by numerous factors. This study aimed to investigate how the DOX dosage affects autonomic function and physiological parameters, to elucidate the neurocardiac mechanisms underlying the observed cardiovascular side effects.
