Hybrid immunity, acquired through vaccination followed or preceded by a COVID-19 infection, elicits robust antibody augmentation. During the last decades, a major achievement was reported in detecting Down's syndrome in the first trimester of pregnancy. This is attributed to the use of high-resolution accurate ultrasound machine allowing the detection of a "nuchal translucency" in the back of the fetus during 11-14 weeks' gestation. This is considered to be a physiologic finding, but when increased, may alert for chromosomal abnormality (mainly Down's syndrome), cardiac and other organ anomalies and other genetic syndromes.

The vast majority of membrane phospholipids (PLs) include two asymmetrically positioned fatty acyls: oxidizable polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) attached predominantly at the sn2 position, and non-oxidizable saturated/monounsaturated acids (SFA/MUFA) localized at the sn1 position. The peroxidation of PUFA-PLs, particularly sn2-arachidonoyl(AA)- and sn2-adrenoyl(AdA)-containing phosphatidylethanolamines (PE), has been associated with the execution of ferroptosis, a program of regulated cell death. There is a minor subpopulation (≈1-2 mol %) of doubly PUFA-acylated phospholipids (di-PUFA-PLs) whose role in ferroptosis remains enigmatic.

Combat soldiers are currently faced with using a hearing-protection device (HPD) at the cost of adequately detecting critical signals impacting mission success. The current study tested the performance of the Perforated-Concave-Earplug (pCEP), a proof-of-concept passive HPD consisting of a concave bowl-like rigid structure attached to a commercial roll-down earplug, designed to improve sound localization with minimal compromising of noise attenuation. Primarily intended for combat/military training settings, our aim was an evaluation of localization of relevant sound sources (single/multiple gunfire, continuous noise, spoken word) compared to 3M™-Combat-Arms™4.

Infants are at a higher risk of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)-related hospitalizations compared to older children. In this study, we investigated the effect of the recommended third maternal dose of BNT162b2 COVID-19 vaccine during pregnancy on rates of infant COVID-19-related hospitalizations. We conducted a nationwide cohort study of all live-born infants delivered in Israel between 24 August 2021 and 15 March 2022 to estimate the effectiveness of the third booster dose versus the second dose against infant COVID-19-related hospitalizations.

The use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) has become increasingly popular in most Western countries. As a result, safety-related issues associated with these practices have become more apparent, including adverse effects and negative interactions with conventional medical therapies. The potential dangers associated with CAM are further exacerbated by the absence of high-quality clinical research on the subject; a lack of a basic understanding of the principles of CAM among physicians; and a reluctance of patients to disclose their use of CAM, including those modalities being used in parallel with conventional medical treatments.

Mannosylated lipoarabinomannan (ManLAM), a complex lipoglycan, is a major component of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the agent of tuberculosis (TB), and is an antigen used for serological diagnosis of TB. Screening random phage-display peptide libraries with anti-ManLAM mAb CS40 for peptide epitope mimics (mimotopes) led to the isolation of a panel of peptides. One of these peptides (B11) was characterized as a ManLAM mimotope: it bound the anti-ManLAM CS40 mAb and competed with ManLAM for antibody binding.
