The present study examines the possible effect of the novel hybrid molecule JM-20 (3-ethoxycarbonyl-2-methyl-4-(2-nitrophenyl)-411-dihydro-1H-pyrido[2,3-b] [1,5] benzodiazepine) on pain-related behaviours in a persistent pain model (5% formalin test) and in the neutrophil migration events during the inflammatory process. It further introduces JM-20 in a chronic constriction injury (CCI) model to clarify the possible subjacent mechanisms with its consequent clinical relevance. A single administration of JM-20 (20 or 40 mg/kg, per os [p.

Purpose: Retinal damage in ocular toxoplasmosis reflects Toxoplasma gondii-induced cell lysis and reactive inflammation. Human retinal histopathology demonstrates the presence of neutrophils, but activities of this leukocyte subset are unstudied. We conducted in vitro experiments to evaluate roles for neutrophils as retinal taxis for T.

Interest has increased in comorbidities associated with psoriasis and their effects on health-related quality of life (HRQoL). This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and to investigate HRQoL and the prevalence of hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), obesity and dyslipidemia. In a cross-sectional design, patients diagnosed with plaque psoriasis answered an interview and standardized questionnaires (Dermatology Life Quality Index questionnaire [DLQI], 36-Item Short Form Health Survey [SF-36] and EuroQol Five-Dimension Questionnaire Three-Level version [EQ-5D-3L]).

Introduction: Anxiety disorders may be associated with several non-psychiatric disorders. Current literature has been investigating the association between anxiety and joint hypermobility (JHM), with special interest in non-articular symptoms that may be related to autonomic dysfunction. This study investigated the association between anxiety and JHM in a sample of Brazilian university students.

Purpose: To assess oxidative stress and the profile of fatty acids incorporated into the hepatic tissue of animals refed with high-fat (HF) diets after acute food restriction.
Methods: Fifty male Wistar rats were divided into five groups and fasting for 48 hours. One group was sacrificed without refeeding (NR), a control group (C) was refed with the standard AIN-93 diet and the remaining groups with HF diets respectively consisting of hydrogenated vegetable oil (PHVO), trans-free (TF) margarine and trans-free margarine enriched with ω-3 and ω-6 (O).

Objective: The objectives of the present study were to adapt the Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale from the clinician administered to the self-report version (LSAS-SR) and to perform the initial psychometric studies concerning internal consistency and item analysis.
Methods: The phase of adaptation was performed by two specialists in the Mental Health area and the face validity was tested by a group of 30 university students. As part of the psychometric study of the LSAS-SR, the internal consistency was assessed and the items were analyzed by applying the scale to 682 university students.

Gynecology and Obstetrics, Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto - University of São Paulo, Ribeirão Preto, Brazil.
Introduction: The Doppler method is extensively applied today for the evaluation of pregnancies with involvement of the uteroplacental blood flow. Although increased nitric oxide (NO) formation plays an important role in regulation of systemic vascular resistance during pregnancy, growing evidence indicates that reduced NO formation is associated with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, especially preeclampsia.
Objectives: The studies were to assess the maternal and fetal Doppler parameters and to determine the whole blood nitrite levels during pregnancy.

Gynecology and Obstetrics, Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto - University of São Paulo, Ribeirão Preto, Brazil.
Introduction: The vascular endothelium is thought to be responsible for cardiovascular adaptations in gestation, such as the decrease in peripheral vascular resistance and the decrease in arterial pressure. There is an increase of nitric oxide (NO) serum levels in normal gestation due to an increment in the activity of the enzyme endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS).
Objectives: To compare maternal flow-mediated dilation of the brachial artery (FMD) and the nitrite concentration between the third trimester of pregnancy and postpartum period.

Introduction: Adiponectin is involved in energy homeostasis by regulating glucose and lipid metabolism. Additionally, it presents anti-inflammatory and anti-atherosclerotic functions. Polymorphisms in adiponectin gene (ADIPOQ) can modulate the concentrations of adiponectin.

Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) suppress T cell responses through mechanisms not completely understood. Adenosine is a strong immunosuppressant that acts mainly through its receptor A(2a) (ADORA2A). Extracellular adenosine levels are a net result of its production (mediated by CD39 and CD73), and of its conversion into inosine by Adenosine Deaminase (ADA).

Through activation of the A1 adenosine receptors (A1Rs) at both the central and peripheral level, adenosine produces antinociception in a wide range of tests. However, the mechanisms involved in the peripheral effect are still not fully understood. Therefore, the mechanisms by which peripheral activation of A1Rs reduces inflammatory hypernociception (a decrease in the nociceptive threshold) were addressed in the present study.

Concomitant skin lesions in visceral leishmaniasis (VL) or kala-azar are rare, being more common the description of post-kala-azar dermal leishmaniasis occurring post treatment of kala-azar. Skin lesions caused by Leishmania donovani are frequently seen in the aids-VL co-infection. In Brazil cutaneous or mucosal forms of tegumentary leishmaniasis concomitant with aids are more commonly registered.

Despite the probable inhibitory effects of GnRH analogues on ovarian steroidogenesis in vitro, their association with assisted reproduction protocols shows favorable results. This suggests that there are important differences in the behaviors of these drugs when administered in vivo versus in vitro. To clarify these differences, this study was designed to analyze the effect of leuprolide acetate (LA) on ovarian steroidogenesis in women undergoing In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).
