Objectives: The main objective of this study was to establish a mouse model of spinal ligament ossification to simulate the chronic spinal cord compression observed in patients with ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL). The study also aimed to examine the mice's neurobiological, radiological, and pathological changes.
Methods: In the previous study, a genetically modified mouse strain was created using Crispr-Cas9 technology, namely, / (C57/B6 background), to establish the OPLL model.
Objective: The objective of this study is to validate the predictive ability of the 2021 European Association of Urology (EAU) risk model compared to that of existing risk models, including the 2019 EAU model and risk scoring tables of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer, Club Urologico Espanol de Tratamiento Oncologico, and Japanese Nishinihon Uro-oncology Extensive Collaboration Group.
Patients And Methods: This retrospective multi-institutional database study included two cohorts-3024 patients receiving intravesical bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) treatment (BCG cohort) and 789 patients not receiving BCG treatment (non-BCG cohort). The Kaplan-Meier estimate and log-rank test were used to visualize and compare oncological survival outcomes after transurethral surgery among the risk groups.

Key Clinical Message: Distraction osteogenesis (DO) of the mandible is often performed at a young age, and there are few reports after age 30, as in this case. The Hybrid MMF used in this case was useful in that it allowed correction of fine directionality.
Abstract: DO is often performed in young patients with a high capability of osteogenesis.
Peripheral odontogenic fibroma (POdF) is a rare, benign ectomesenchymal tumor. Herein, we report a case of a 15-year-old female patient who developed POdF in the mandible. The lesion was resected along with the periosteum.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA 62-year-old woman with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) developed coma on day 19 after her pneumonia was ameliorated. Brain magnetic resonance imaging with gadolinium showed radial linear perivascular enhancement, typically seen in glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) astrocytopathy, although anti-GFAP antibody results were negative. Her consciousness recovered with high-dose steroid administration.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAims/introduction: The objective of the present study was to clarify the validity of β-cell function-related parameters for predicting the insulin requirement of Japanese type 2 diabetic patients.
Materials And Methods: In 188 patients with type 2 diabetes who had been admitted to the University of Toyama Hospital (Toyama, Japan) without receiving insulin therapy, we carried out a cross-sectional study examining the relationship between the homeostasis model assessment of β-cell function (HOMA-β) and C-peptide-based indices, and also carried out a retrospective study to examine the utility for predicting insulin requirement of several β -cell function-related indices using a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis.
Results: The secretory units of islets in transplantation index (SUIT) had the strongest correlation with HOMA-β, followed by the fasting serum C-peptide immunoreactivity index (CPI); the fasting serum C-peptide immunoreactivity itself (F-CPR) had the least correlation.
Aims/introduction: Genetic risk variants for type 2 diabetes; rs391300-G in SRR and rs17584499-T in PTPRD, have been identified by a genome-wide association study using Han Chinese individuals living in Taiwan. In an attempt to know the effects of these two variants in conferring susceptibility to type 2 diabetes in the Japanese, we carried out a replication study for the association of the two single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) with type 2 diabetes in a Japanese population.
Materials And Methods: We genotyped 11,530 Japanese individuals (8,552 type 2 diabetes patients and 2,978 controls) for rs391300 and rs17584499, and analyzed the association of these two SNPs with type 2 diabetes by logistic regression analysis.
