Imaging findings of right-sided trigone intraventricular meningioma: A case report.

Radiol Case Rep

January 2025

Department of Radiology, Faculty of Medicine University of Padjadjaran, Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital, Bandung, Indonesia.

Intraventricular meningioma is a case with an incidence about 0.5%-2% of all cases of meningioma. About 80% of all intraventricular meningiomas occur in the trigone of lateral ventricle and more common on the left side.

Article Synopsis
  • Brugada syndrome (BrS) is a serious heart condition linked to dangerous arrhythmias that can lead to sudden cardiac death (SCD), often with a connection to atrial fibrillation (AF).
  • This case series analyzed two patients with BrS and AF, both showing normal heart function and rhythm control through medication, yet still faced unexpected SCD within a couple of years.
  • The findings suggest that treated AF in BrS patients signals a potentially risky genetic variant, heightening the chances of developing life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias.

Objectives: Kidney trauma is the most common urological trauma. Technological advances have made conservative management possible for almost all kidney trauma. However, grade five kidney trauma needs to be carefully examined due to its various complications, especially late complications that often delayed in recognition thus forming irreversible morbidity, with the most common late complication is kidney damage due to ischemic and fibrotic process.

Fournier's gangrene, a rare and life-threatening soft tissue infection affecting the genitalia and perineum, results from various microorganisms. This rapidly progressing necrotizing fasciitis yields higher mortality and morbidity rates. We report a case of a 1-month-old male infant with Fournier's gangrene due to perforation transverse colon complicated with septic shock and pneumonia also accompanied by patent processus vaginalis.

Pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect is a congenital heart malformation in which a lack of continuity between ventricles and the pulmonary artery is accompanied by ventricular septal defect. We report a 3-year-old female patient, who presented with a history of shortness of breath and bluish lips. Computed tomography pulmonary angiography showed an absent main pulmonary artery, right pulmonary artery, left pulmonary artery and showed a defect that connects the right ventricle and left ventricle, which concluded a VSD (ventricular septal defect).

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the changes in soluble suppression of tumorigenicity 2 (sST2) levels and echocardiography parameters before and one month after permanent pacemaker (PPM) implantation in symptomatic bradycardia patients.
  • It involved 49 patients who had preserved ejection fraction and found statistically significant differences in sST2 levels before and after the procedure (23.4±28.4 ng/ml vs 39.9±63.7 ng/ml, p=0.001).
  • The results indicate that significant early cardiac remodeling occurs within one month of PPM implantation, as shown by the increase in sST2 levels.

Numerous studies have demonstrated that a type I Brugada electrocardiographic (ECG) pattern, history of syncope, prior sudden cardiac arrest, and previously documented ventricular tachyarrhythmias are still insufficient to stratify the risk of sudden cardiac death in Brugada syndrome (BrS). Several auxiliary risk stratification parameters are pursued to yield a better prognostic model. Our aim was to assess the association between several ECG markers (wide QRS, fragmented QRS, S-wave in lead I, aVR sign, early repolarization pattern in inferolateral leads, and repolarization dispersion pattern) with the risk of developing poor outcomes in BrS.

Article Synopsis
  • Recent studies indicate that exercise-induced premature ventricular complexes (EI-PVCs) are linked to a higher risk of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in asymptomatic individuals, though the evidence is limited.
  • A total of 13 studies with over 82,000 patients showed that frequent EI-PVCs significantly increase the risk of mortality, while infrequent ones do not.
  • The recovery phase of EI-PVCs was found to be more specific than during exercise for predicting these mortality risks, suggesting the need for regular exercise ECG testing in asymptomatic middle-aged individuals to monitor PVC frequency.

Choledochoduodenal fistula (CDF) is a rare condition marked by an abnormal connection between the biliary duct and duodenum. The common etiology of secondary CDF are cholecystolithiasis, tumor, and duodenal ulcer. CDF may also caused by prior inflammatory condition or as a complication of radiation therapy.

Introduction: Risk stratification in Brugada Syndrome (BrS) patients is still challenging due to the heterogeneity of clinical presentation; thus, some additional risk markers are needed. Several studies investigating the association between RVOT conduction delay sign on electrocardiography (ECG) and major arrhythmic events (MAE) in BrS patients showed inconclusive results. This meta-analysis aims to evaluate the association between RVOT conduction delay signs presented by aVR sign and large S wave in lead I, and MAE in BrS patients.

Blunt renal trauma in ureteropelvic junction obstruction kidney: A case report.

Int J Surg Case Rep

May 2022

Department of Urology, Faculty of Medicine University of Padjadjaran, Hasan Sadikin Hospital Bandung, Bandung, West Java, Indonesia.

Article Synopsis
  • - Kidneys are commonly injured in trauma, particularly in cases of abdominal blunt trauma, and injuries in hydronephrotic kidneys due to ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) are rare but pose unique challenges.
  • - A case is presented involving a 23-year-old male who suffered abdominal blunt trauma in a motorcycle accident, leading to visible hematuria and grade IV hydronephrosis of the right kidney, detected through ultrasound and CT scans.
  • - Treatment included laparotomy and right nephrectomy due to severe kidney laceration, poor renal function, and the risk of future complications, highlighting the need for clinical judgment in managing renal injuries in patients with congenital abnormalities.

Currently, gastroptosis is rarely reported, and the actual prevalence is unknown. Similarly, the possible predisposing factor and cause remain unclear. A 69-year-old had melena for 1 week, and other symptoms were left upper abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting especially postprandially that was persistent for several months with no response to medication.

Hanging bladder stone due to misplaced surgical suture several years after hysterectomy: A case report.

Int J Surg Case Rep

December 2021

Division of Urology, Faculty of Medicine University of Padjadjaran, Hasan Sadikin Hospital Bandung, Indonesia.

Introduction And Importance: Urinary bladder calculi are rarely seen in women and any history of previous pelvic surgery must, therefore, raise suspicion of an iatrogenic etiology. The incidence of iatrogenic foreign bodies rise recently due to increasing number of surgical procedure. According to the literature, fewer than 2% of all bladder calculi occur in female subjects and, thus, their presence should provoke careful assessment of the etiology.

Background: Prolonged pacing of the right ventricle (RV) is associated with left ventricular (LV) systolic dysfunction. Several studies have shown that the RV pacing location, pacing burden (percentage), and paced QRS duration may affect LV systolic function. Subclinical LV dysfunction may occur early after implantation of a permanent pacemaker (PPM).
