Introduction: The medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) is the main patellar stabilizer in low knee flexion degrees (0-30°). Isolated MPFL reconstruction (MPFLr) is therefore considered the gold standard of surgical procedures for low flexion patellofemoral instabilities (PFIs). Despite excellent clinical results, little is known about the effect of MPFLr on kinematic parameters (KPs) of the patellofemoral joint in vivo.

Background: Perioperative echocardiography is of paramount importance during cardiac surgery. Nonetheless, in the experimental large-animal setting, it might be challenging obtaining optimal imaging when using conventional imaging acquisition techniques, such as transthoracic and transesophageal screenings. Open-chest surgery allows epicardial echocardiographic assessment with direct contact between probe and heart, thus providing superior quality.

Comparing adopted and nonadopted individuals provides an opportunity to disentangle those factors. Methods and Results We examined associations between family history of stroke and heart disease with incident stroke and myocardial infarction (MI) in 495 640 UK Biobank participants (mean age, 56.

Background: Cognitive deficits considerably contribute to the patient's burden in Parkinson's disease (PD). While cognitive decline is linked to neuronal dysfunction, the additional role of white matter lesions (WML) is discussed controversially.
Objective: To investigate the influence of WML, in comparison to neuronal dysfunction, on cognitive deficits in PD.

Background Acute heart failure is the most frequent cause of unplanned hospital admission in elderly patients. Various biomarkers have been evaluated to better assess the status of these patients and prevent decompensation. Recently, voice has been suggested as a cost-effective and noninvasive way to monitor disease progression.

Diets abundant in acidogenic foods, such as meat and meat products, induce a low-grade metabolic acidosis state that has been associated with cardiovascular disease, type-2-diabetes, and an increased cancer risk. Fruits and vegetables have alkalizing properties and beneficially affect DAL.

Axonal peripheral neuropathy is a common complication of mitochondrial trifunctional protein (MTP) deficiency and long-chain 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency that is usually considered progressive. Current treatment strategies are not able to fully prevent neuropathic symptoms in the majority of patients. We herein report three sisters with genetically proven MTP deficiency who were untreated until adolescence, when electrophysiological studies first revealed isolated axonal sensory neuropathy.

Background: This study evaluated the outcome and survival of patients with radiologically suspected intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs).
Methods: IPMN management was reviewed according to Fukuoka risk factors and IPMN localization, differentiating main-duct (MD), mixed-type (MT) and branch-duct (BD) IPMNs. Perioperative results were compared with those of patients undergoing resection of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) over the same interval (2010-2014).

Background Transfemoral transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TF-TAVR) is recommended for patients suffering from aortic valve stenosis at increased operative risk. Beyond that, patients with different comorbidities could benefit from TF-TAVR. The present study compares real-world in-hospital outcomes of surgical aortic valve replacement and TF-TAVR.

Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) and primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) are the most common cholestatic liver diseases. While PBC is generally accepted to be an autoimmune disorder characterized by pathognomonic autoantibodies against mitochondrial antigens, the pathogenesis of PSC is less precisely defined; however, some degree of altered immunity toward autoantigens has been suggested. Follicular T helper (Tfh) cells, a distinct clusters of differentiation (CD)4 T-cell subset specialized in facilitating antibody responses, have been shown to contribute to humoral autoimmunity in various disorders; yet, there is only limited information on possible alterations of Tfh cells in the context of cholestatic liver diseases.

High signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the NMR signal has always been a key target that drives massive research effort in many fields. Among several parameters, a high filling factor of the MR coil has proven to boost the SNR. In case of small-volume samples, a high filling factor and thus a high SNR can be achieved through miniaturizing the MR coil.
