The Association Between Uric Acid and Symmetric Dimethylarginine Levels in Patients Undergoing Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis.

Background: Uric acid (UA) levels are associated with increased risk of cardiovascular events and mortality in hemodialysis (HD) and continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) patients. In a study with a population of healthy young adults and HD there was a correlation between high blood uric acid levels and blood symmetric dimethylarginine (SDMA) level. However, in CAPD population, there are still conflicting data on the mechanism of increased risks related to uric acid levels.

Risk of Falls in HIV-Infected Patients on Antiretroviral Therapy and Its Associated Factors.

Purpose: Fall is one of the geriatric syndromes and a significant public health concern, which causes potentially severe consequences among the elderly. Geriatric syndromes are common among PLHIV and affect younger age than the general population. This study attempted to identify the risk of falls in PLHIV on antiretroviral therapy (ART) and its related factors among older adults with HIV infection.

Targeted Gene Sanger Sequencing Should Remain the First-Tier Genetic Test for Children Suspected to Have the Five Common X-Linked Inborn Errors of Immunity.

To address inborn errors of immunity (IEI) which were underdiagnosed in resource-limited regions, our centre developed and offered free genetic testing for the most common IEI by Sanger sequencing (SS) since 2001. With the establishment of The Asian Primary Immunodeficiency (APID) Network in 2009, the awareness and definitive diagnosis of IEI were further improved with collaboration among centres caring for IEI patients from East and Southeast Asia. We also started to use whole exome sequencing (WES) for undiagnosed cases and further extended our collaboration with centres from South Asia and Africa.

Incidence and Clearance of Anal Human Papillomavirus Infection in 16 164 Individuals, According to Human Immunodeficiency Virus Status, Sex, and Male Sexuality: An International Pooled Analysis of 34 Longitudinal Studies.

Background: Understanding the natural history of anal high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) infection is key for designing anal cancer prevention programs but has not been systematically characterized.

Methods: We reanalyzed data from 34 studies including 16 164 individuals in 6 risk groups defined by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) status, sex, and male sexuality: men who have sex with men (MSM) and people with HIV (MSMWH), HIV-negative MSM, women with HIV (WWH), HIV-negative women, men who have sex with women (MSW) with HIV (MSWWH), and HIV-negative MSW. We used Markov models to estimate incidence and clearance of 13 hrHPV types and their determinants.

Parenteral and Oral Anticoagulant Treatment for Hospitalized and Post-Discharge COVID-19 Patients: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Background: The use of anticoagulants has been endorsed by different hematological societies as coagulation abnormalities are key features of COVID-19 patients. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to provide the most recent update on available evidence on the clinical benefits and risk of oral and parenteral anticoagulants, as well agents with anticoagulant properties, in hospitalized and post-discharge COVID-19 patients.

Methods: This systematic review synthesizes data on the outcome of anticoagulation in hospitalized and post-discharge COVID-19 patients.

National Consensus on Portal Hypertension Management in Indonesia.

Portal hypertension is a clinical syndrome that consists of hypersplenism, ascites, gastroesophageal varices, and encephalopathy. This condition is marked by increased portal pressure gradient and may occur with or without liver cirrhosis. To date, portal hypertension remains as the leading cause of severe complications and death of a patient with chronic liver disease, especially liver cirrhosis.

Extrapulmonary Manifestations COVID-19.

After being declared as a pandemic on March 11, 2020 by the World Health Organization, COVID-19 has affected 497 million people worldwide as of 9 April 2022. COVID-19 is a disease with a plethora of clinical manifestations, which extends to those beyond pulmonary signs and symptoms. Studies that report on the clinical presentation of COVID-19 rarely report specifically on cases with only extrapulmonary manifestations of COVID-19.

Symptomatic Bradycardia Due to Alectinib in a Patient with Advanced Stage of NSCLC.

Alectinib is one of the targeted therapies commonly given to patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with mutations in the ALK gene. The most common adverse effects of alectinib are fatigue, constipation, edema, myalgia and anemia. Meanwhile, bradycardia was reported as a very common adverse effect, but generally asymptomatic, unlike the reported patient in this case report.

Supportive Psychotherapy for Healthcare Professionals in The Management of Acute Coronary Syndrome: The Use of Delphi Technique.

Background: Supportive psychotherapy (SP) may increase the benefit of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) management, but there is no structured SP as a guideline for healthcare professionals. This study aimed to develop structured SP as a guideline for implementing psychotherapy in the management of ACS patients in intensive cardiac care unit (ICCU).

Methods:  This qualitative study used Delphi technique as a modified Delphi method to reach a consensus among experts of structured SP for healthcare professionals in the management of ACS during hospitalized in ICCU.

Expression of CD44/CD24, RAD6 and DDB2 on chemotherapy response in ovarian Cancer: A prospective flow cytometry study.

Backgrounds: Ovarian cancer is the 8th deadliest common cancer in women around the world. Almost all ovarian cancer patients would experience chemoresistance, recurrence, and poor prognosis after cytoreductive surgery and platinum-based chemotherapy. Chemoresistant cancer cells have characteristic expressions of cancer stem cell proteins (CSCs) CD44/CD24, RAD6 and DDB2.

The effect of early radiofrequency turbinate reduction, intranasal steroid, and antihistamine H-1 on persistent allergic rhinitis: a randomized clinical trial.

Objective: We aimed to evaluate the effect of radiofrequency turbinate reduction as an initial treatment on clinical improvement, inflammatory mediators, and remodeling process.

Methods: Between July 2018-February 2020, 32 patients with moderate-severe persistent AR were randomly divided into 2 groups. Intervention group received radiofrequency turbinate reduction followed by intranasal steroid and Antihistamine H-1 (AH-1), control group received intranasal steroid and AH-1.

This study aimed to assess the prevalence and factors related to CAM use among HIV-infected patients during COVID-19 pandemic, then identify drug- to-drug interaction (DDI) of antiretroviral (ARV) drugs with CAM that they used.

Identification and Validation of Entrustable Professional Activities in Indonesian Internal Medicine Residency Programs.

Background: Entrustable professional activities (EPAs) are tasks entrusted to students who assist supervisors in determining their competencies. However, the competencies required and the end-educational stage in which each EPA item is assigned have yet to be determined by the stakeholders of internal medicine residency programs in Indonesia. This study aimed to identify and determine the activities in internal medicine residency programs which could be defined as EPAs in the competency-based curriculum of Indonesian internal medicine residency programs.

Palliative Screening Tools to Identify Palliative Care Consultation at Tertiary Hospital.

Background: The need of palliative care is increasing, but it is not all achievable. It is necessary to identify palliative patients in order to provide the proper care according to the needs of the patients. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital has been making the identification using a palliative-patient screening questionnaire, but no performance assessment has been carried out on the screening tool.

Aim: The second Asia-Pacific Advanced Prostate Cancer Consensus Conference (APAC APCCC 2020) gathered insights into the real-world application in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region of consensus statements from the 3rd Advanced Prostate Cancer Consensus Conference (APCCC 2019).

Methods: The 4-h our virtual meeting in October 2020 brought together 26 experts from 14 APAC countries to discuss APCCC 2019 recommendations. Presentations were prerecorded and viewed prior to the meeting.
