Concordance between Reticulocyte Hemoglobin Equivalent and Reticulocyte Hemoglobin Content in CKD Patients Undergoing Hemodialysis.

Aim: to evaluate the correlation and the concordance between reticulocyte hemoglobin equivalent (RET-He) and reticulocyte hemoglobin content (CHr) as well as to obtain the cut-off value of RET-He as the target of iron supplementation in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients undergoing hemodialysis.

Methods: a cross-sectional study was performed using K3EDTA-anticoagulated peripheral blood samples collected from 106 CKD patients undergoing routine hemodialysis. The samples were then analyzed using both Sysmex XN-2000 and Siemens ADVIA 2120i for RET-He and CHr analysis.

Y-Chromosomal Microdeletion in Idiopathic Azoospermic and Severe Oligozoospermic Indonesian Men.

Aim: to detect Y-chromosomal microdeletion in Indonesian men with azoospermia or severe oligozoospermia using multiplex PCR.

Methods: we performed 2 multiplex PCR amplifications of the Azoospermia Factor (AZF) region in 71 men. Criteria for including a patient were fulfilled if they presented with azoospermia or severe oligozoospermia, with or without additional abnormalities of sperm motility or of head morphology, raised or normal levels of FSH, normal levels of LH and testosterone, and with no evidence of testicular tumors or other abnormalities.

Validity and Reliability of the Indonesian Version of SF-36 Quality of Life Questionnaire on Patients with Permanent Pacemakers.

Aim: to construct and validate Indonesian version of SF-36.

Methods: this is a cross-sectional study, which consist of 2 stages process: 1) language and cultural adaption; and 2) validity and reliability evaluation. We evaluated 32 pacemaker patients during language and cultural adaptation stage and 20 pacemaker patients during validity and reliability evaluation stages from September 2014 to August 2015.

Serotype distribution and antimicrobial susceptibility of Streptococcus pneumoniae isolates from adult patients in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Currently, the data on pneumococcal invasive disease in the Indonesian population are limited. In this study, we investigated the serotype distribution and antimicrobial susceptibility of Streptococcus pneumoniae. These samples were isolated from the sputum of adult patients with non-specific clinical symptoms aged 18-87 years in Jakarta, Indonesia, from August to October 2014.

Ebstein Anomaly in Pregnancy.

Unlabelled: A 27-year-old primiparous woman with 28 weeks gestational age was admitted to our hospital with worsening shortness of breath. She was diagnosed with Ebstein's anomaly three years ago, but preferred to be left untreated. The patient was not cyanotic and her vital signs were stable.

Transcatheter Closure of Patent Ductus Arteriosus in Adolescents and Adults: A Case Series.

During 11 years period from January 2005 to December 2015 there were 18 adolescent and adult patients  who underwent transcatheter closure of PDA using PDA Amplatzer Duct Occluder (ADO). There were 9 cases with age of 14 to 18 years and 9 cases with age of more than 18 years where the oldest case was 46 years old. Two cases were male and 16 cases were female.

Short-term Survival of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome Patients at a Single Tertiary Referral Centre in Indonesia.

Aim: to identify the 28-day short-term survival rate in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).

Methods: this is a retrospective cohort study conducted at a tertiary referral hospital in Jakarta, Indonesia. We conducted the study for 10 months and data was extracted from medical records between October 2015 and August 2016.

Mortality-related Factors in Patients with Malignant Obstructive Jaundice.

Aim: to obtain survival rate and mortality-related factors of malignant obstructive jaundice patients.

Methods: all medical records of obstructive jaundice inpatient at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Jakarta from January 2010 to December 2013 were reviewed retrospectively. The following factors were analyzed in terms of mortality: age, gender, sepsis, hypoalbumin, serum bilirubin level, serum CA 19-9 level, billiary drainage, non-ampulla Vateri carcinoma, and comorbid factors.

Expression of Biomarkers CXCR4, IL11-RA, TFF1, MLF1P in Advanced Breast Cancer Patients with Bone Metastatic: a Diagnostic Study.

Aim: to analyze expression of biomarkers CXCR4, IL11-RA, TFF1 and MLF1P, and clinicopathology in advanced breast cancer patients with bone metastatic.

Methods: this is a cross-sectional study. Analysis was done against a total of 92 breast cancer patients, including 46 bone metastatic patients and 46 non-bone metastatic patients.

Colloids Versus Albumin in Large Volume Paracentesis to Prevent Circulatory Dysfunction: Evidence-based Case Report.

The Proportion of Orthostatic Hypotension and Its Relationship with HbA1c Levels in Elderly Patients with Diabetes.

Aim: to obtain information on the proportion of orthostatic hypotension in elderly patients with diabetes and its relationship with HbA1c levels.

Methods: this is a cross-sectional study on 350 patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) aged 60 years old who sought treatment at outpatient clinic of Geriatry and Diabetes Division at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital between January and March 2016. Orthostatic hypotension was defined as a decrease in systolic blood pressure 20 mmHg and/or diastolic pressure 10 mmHg within 3 minutes after changing position from lying to standing.

Early Realignment Versus Delayed Urethroplasty in Management of Pelvic Fracture Urethral Injury: A Meta-analysis.

Impact of Frailty on the First 30 Days of Major Cardiac Events in Elderly Patients with Coronary Artery Disease Undergoing Elective Percutaneous Coronary Intervention.

Aim: to obtain the proportion of frailty and the incidence of 30-day major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) as well as to review the impact of frailty on the prognosis of elderly patients with coronary heart disease who underwent elective PCI.

Methods: this is a prospective cohort study to assess the frailty of elderly patients with coronary artery disease that underwent elective PCI in Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital using the frailty phenotype criteria. They were subsequently followed-up for 30 days to see whether there was any MACE developed.

Impact of Frailty on Cardiovascular Disease (and the Other Way Around).

Cardiovascular disesase has been identified as the most frequent cause of death, while frailty has been identified as one of geriatric giants characterized by decreased physiological reserves and increased vulnerability. Despite of aggressive treatment for cardiovascular diseases such as invasive methods,frail patients who undergo these procedures tend to experience undesirable effects compared to non frail patients. As the population of elderly patiens worldwide is growing larger, these issues lead to major health problems that we have to overcome.

Rad51 Expression in Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma and Its Association with Tumor Reduction: A Preliminary Study in Indonesia.

Background: Overexpression of Rad51 protein in many tumor cells has been proven to increase radioresistance and can be related to the resistance of chemosensitivity of tumor cells. This preliminary study was conducted to determine the relationship between the Rad51 expression level in nasopharyngeal carcinoma and the response of the treatment based on the measurement of the tumor reduction.

The Role of Incentive Spirometry in Primary Spontaneous Pneumothorax.

Pneumothorax is the presence of air in the pleural space. Its management consists of noninvasive and invasive therapies and it is determined based on clinical manifestations, type and size of pneumothorax. We present a case of a patient with diagnosis of primary spontaneous pneumothorax treated with incentive spirometry (noninvasive therapy).

The Ability of Detecting Heart Rate Variability with the Photoplethysmography to Predict Major Adverse Cardiac Event in Acute Coronary Syndrome.

Aim: to assess heart rate variability (HRV) measurements using pulse photoplethysmograph (PPG) in predicting major adverse cardiac event (MACE) in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients.

Methods: a prospective cohort study was conducted among hospitalized ACS patients. Heart rate variability as predictor was measured by PPG within 48 hours after admission and the incidence of MACE as outcome was identified during ICCU stay.
