Introduction: Apalutamide-associated skin rash is a more common adverse event in the Japanese population than in the global population. However, its mechanism remains elusive, and limited histopathological information hampers further understanding.
Case Presentation: Case 1: a 71-year-old man with metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer developed a skin rash after 70 days of apalutamide treatment.

The Japanese Clinical Practice Guidelines for Management of Sepsis and Septic Shock 2020 (J-SSCG 2020), a Japanese-specific set of clinical practice guidelines for sepsis and septic shock created as revised from J-SSCG 2016 jointly by the Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicine and the Japanese Association for Acute Medicine, was first released in September 2020 and published in February 2021. An English-language version of these guidelines was created based on the contents of the original Japanese-language version. The purpose of this guideline is to assist medical staff in making appropriate decisions to improve the prognosis of patients undergoing treatment for sepsis and septic shock.

During the COVID-19 pandemic era, multiple infection prevention and control measures to reduce the risk of SARS-CoV-2 transmission may be required in upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (UGI). We herein studied the verification tests of Endo barrier, which is one of the protective barrier enclosures. Endo barrier may be an alternative for minimizing SARS-CoV-2 transmission during UGI.

Extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) followed by targeted temperature management has been demonstrated to significantly improve the outcomes of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) in adult patients. Although recent narrative and systematic reviews on extracorporeal life support in the emergency department are available in the literature, they are focused on the efficacy of ECPR, and no comprehensively summarized review on ECPR for OHCA in adult patients is available. In this review, we aimed to clarify the prevalence, pathophysiology, predictors, management, and details of the complications of ECPR for OHCA, all of which have not been reviewed in previous literature, with the aim of facilitating understanding among acute care physicians.

Background: Slow-motion training, which comprises exercising using extremely slow-movements, yields a training effect like that of high-intensity training, even when the applied load is small. We developed a slow-training exercise program that allows elderly people to safely use their own body weight without a machine. Previously, it was confirmed that functional gait and lower limb muscle strength were improved by low-intensity training using bodyweight training for 3 months.

Overexpression of TXNIP causes cell cycle arrest at the G1/S checkpoint in the hepatocellular carcinoma cell line HuH-7. TXNIP contains putative phosphorylation sites, but the effects of its phosphorylation have not been fully characterized.

Objective: The Japan Research Committee for Intractable Vasculitis has fully revised the clinical practice guidelines (CPG) for the management of antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis (AAV) to improve and standardize the medical treatment of the disease in Japan.
Methods: The previous CPG was published in a classical review style in Japanese in 2011 and 2014. We adopted the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation system for this revision, and various stakeholders, including patients, participated in it.
Aim: To describe the registry design of the Japanese Association for Acute Medicine - out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (JAAM-OHCA) Registry as well as its profile on hospital information, patient and emergency medical service characteristics, and in-hospital procedures and outcomes among patients with OHCA who were transported to the participating institutions.
Methods: The special committee aiming to improve the survival after OHCA by providing evidence-based therapeutic strategies and emergency medical systems from the JAAM has launched a multicenter, prospective registry that enrolled OHCA patients who were transported to critical care medical centers or hospitals with an emergency care department. The primary outcome was a favorable neurological status 1 month after OHCA.
The volatile anesthetic isoflurane (ISO) has previously been shown to increase the fluidity of artificial lipid membranes, but very few studies have used biological cell membranes. Therefore, to investigate whether ISO affects the mobility of membrane proteins, fluorescence-labeled transferrin receptor (TfR) and glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored protein were expressed in human embryonic kidney 293T cells and neural cells and lateral diffusion was examined using fluorescence recovery after photobleaching. Lateral diffusion of the TfR increased with ISO treatment.

Background: FOLFOXIRI is now regarded as the chemotherapy regimen that offers the best platform for the treatment of colorectal cancer. However, the safety and efficacy of FOLFOXIRI + panitumumab has not been demonstrated. We conducted a phase I study to determine the recommended dose of FOLFOXIRI + panitumumab as first-line treatment for RAS wild-type metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC).

Background: The existence of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) in patients with lung cancer has been reported. The purpose of this study was to assess whether CTCs are predictive of the pathological effects of induction chemoradiotherapy for patients with non-small cell lung cancer.
Methods: Patients who underwent induction chemoradiotherapy followed by surgery were compared with those who underwent surgery alone.
