The combination of a commercially available PGLA (poly[glycolide--l-lactide]), 90:10% suture material with bioactive bioglass nanopowders (BGNs) and graphene oxide (GO)-doped BGNs offers new opportunities for the clinical application of biomaterials in soft tissue engineering. In the present experimental work, we demonstrate that GO-doped melt-derived BGNs were synthesized via the sol-gel process. After that, novel GO-doped and undoped BGNs were used to coat resorbable PGLA surgical sutures, thereby imparting bioactivity, biocompatibility, and accelerated wound healing properties to the sutures.

The importance of Carotid Artery Perivascular Adipose Tissue Density (CAPATd), a parameter that can be readily evaluated on emergency computed tomographic angiography (CTA), in acute stroke has not been adequately clarified. We created exploratory logistic regression models to detect the interaction between the effect of CAPATd and intravenous (IV) tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) in 174 patients (mean age 71 ± 14 years, 94 women) with acute ischemic stroke treated with IV-tPA alone. The CAPATd-average mean (-60.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate postoperative left ventricular changes [left ventricular mass (LVM), left ventricular mass index (LVMI), left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVEDD), left ventricular end-systolic diameter (LVESD), patient-prosthesis mismatch (PPM), pulmonary artery pressure (PAP), gradients, and ejection fraction (EF)] according to the valve type used in patients undergoing aortic valve replacement (AVR) due to isolated aortic stenosis.
Methods: A total of 199 patients with isolated AVR due to aortic stenosis between 2010 and 2020 was retrospectively investigated. Four groups were identified according to the valve type used (mechanical, bovine pericardium, porcine and sutureless).

Neurological manifestations can occur in up to 67% of patients with primary Sjögren's Syndrome, also known as Neuro-Sjogren's syndrome (NSS), and a 5% can present central nervous system involvement, with severe and possibly lethal consequences. We present the radiological follow-up of a patient with NSS who consulted for limb weakness and visual loss, and fourteen years later developed sicca symptoms. She was diagnosed with a saliva gland biopsy, and started treatment with steroids, cyclophosphamide, and then rituximab, achieving a favourable clinical response and stabilization of lesions.

Background: This study aims to investigate the protective effects of glutamine against cerebral injury resulting from cerebral ischemia-reperfusion by bilateral carotid occlusion in rats.
Methods: Eighteen Wistar albino rats were randomly divided into three equal groups: 1) control group; 2) ischemia-reperfusion group which underwent clamping of the carotid artery for 20 min; and 3) ischemiareperfusion + glutamine group which was treated with two doses of glutamine (1 g/kg) prior to the same clamping procedure as the ischemia-reperfusion group. All rats were sacrificed 24 h after the experiment.

Background And Purpose: Myeloablative Total Body Irradiation (TBI) is an important modality in conditioning for allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), especially in children with high-risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). TBI practices are heterogeneous and institution-specific. Since TBI is associated with multiple late adverse effects, recommendations may help to standardize practices and improve the outcome versus toxicity ratio for children.
