Celiac disease is a chronic inflammatory condition that is not well understood in relation to the microbiome. Our objective was to demonstrate changes in the microbiota and the relationships between nutrients in children with celiac disease (CD) who followed a gluten-free diet (GFD). A group of 11 children who were recently diagnosed with CD, ranging in age from 3 to 12, were monitored for a period of 6 months.

This study examines the connection between malnutrition risk and DD in ICU patients using ultrasonographic diaphragm measurements in medical ICU patients.

A patient-driven registry on Behçet's disease: the AIDA for patients pilot project.

Introduction: This paper describes the creation and preliminary results of a patient-driven registry for the collection of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) and patient-reported experiences (PREs) in Behçet's disease (BD).

Methods: The project was coordinated by the University of Siena and the Italian patient advocacy organization SIMBA (Associazione Italiana Sindrome e Malattia di Behçet), in the context of the AIDA (AutoInflammatory Diseases Alliance) Network programme. Quality of life, fatigue, socioeconomic impact of the disease and therapeutic adherence were selected as core domains to include in the registry.

The effect of the male contraceptive agent gossypol acetic acid on mouse bone marrow cells in vivo: micronuclei and mitotic index.

In this work the genotoxic effect of gossypol acetic acid (gossypol) was evaluated by determining the frequency of micronuclei and mitotic index in male mouse bone marrow cells in vivo. Bone marrow cells were collected at 24th hour after the single intraperitoneal (20, 40, and 80 micrograms/g) administration of gossypol. Polychromatic erythrocytes (PCEs) in the bone marrow were then evaluated with respect to micronuclei frequency.
