Background: Metastatic retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (LND) for nodal recurrence is applied for a variety of cancers, such as urological, gynaecological and rectal cancer. Precise localisation and resection of these lymph nodes (LNs) during surgery can be challenging, especially after previous radiotherapy or surgery. The objective of this study was to assess the added value of surgical navigation for targeted LND in the retroperitoneum.

Dysphagia development in heart failure patients: A scoping review.

Objective: Dysphagia significantly affects older adults, particularly those with heart failure (HF). This scoping review aimed to delineate the development of dysphagia and its contributing factors in patients with HF.

Methods: We systematically searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, and CENTRAL databases up to September 2023, focusing on studies involving HF patients aged 60 and above, particularly those assessing post-hospitalization dysphagia.

Characterization of risk factors for early ambulation in paraplegic dogs with absent pain perception undergoing decompressive surgery for thoracolumbar intervertebral disk extrusions.

Background: Current literature warrants surgical decompression in paraplegic dogs with absent pain perception (APP), but the rate of ambulatory dogs with APP following thoracolumbar (TL) IVDE surgery in a clinical setting remains unknown. Furthermore, the outcome of paraplegic APP French Bulldogs (FBs) is anecdotally considered poor. The aims of this study were threefold within a large population of TL-IVDE paraplegic dogs with APP undergoing decompressive surgery: (1) to characterize early spontaneous pelvic limb movement and ambulation following surgery; (2) to identify risk factors for the recovery of ambulation; and (3) to compare the outcome of FBs and Dachshunds presenting with APP.

Over the past few years, there has been a growing awareness of the extent and consequences of sexual assault. This study explores Ultra-Orthodox Jewish women's attitudes toward video-consultation usage in Israeli primary care settings. In-depth interviews were conducted with twenty-two women from diverse Ultra-Orthodox communities in Israel, using interpretative phenomenological analysis. Despite traditionally limited digital tool usage, participants showed readiness for video-consultations' adoption through dedicated 'kosher' medical devices.

Directional vector-based quick evaluation method for protective plate effects in X-ray fluoroscopy (DQPEX).

One radiation protection measure for medical personnel in X-ray fluoroscopy is using radiation protective plates. A real-time interactive tool visualizing radiation-dose distribution varied with the protective plate position will help greatly to train medical personnel to protect themselves from unnecessary radiation exposure. Monte Carlo simulation can calculate the individual interactions between radiations and objects in the X-ray room, and reproduce the complex dose distribution inside the room.

Institutional variation of smoking cessation success in Taiwan: A multi-level analysis of the National Second-Generation Tobacco Cessation Program Data.

Introduction: Although the relationships between personal factors and smoking abstinence are well-documented, institutional variation in smoking abstinence remains underexplored. This study investigates institutional variation in the six-month smoking abstinence prevalence among institutions participating in Taiwan's Second-Generation Tobacco Cessation Program (SGTCP) and examines institutional characteristics associated with smoking cessation success.

Methods: The analysis included 304,757 pharmacotherapy and health education sessions from 160,336 participants who received smoking cessation services across 2420 institutions under the SGTCP between 2000 and June 2022.

The within-subject variability (WSV) of pain-intensity reports has gained attention as a predictor of the placebo response but has demonstrated mixed results. We hypothesized that participants' inward- and outward-directed attention will moderate WSV's prediction of the analgesic placebo response.
