Background: There are currently few appropriate instruments for assessing nutrition care competencies in clinical practice. This study aimed to develop a perceived nutrition care competencies (PNCC) scale for dietetic students and test its validity. Factors that influence PNCC scores were examined through a cross-sectional study.

Currently, the detailed association between genotypes and clinical outcomes, including LVRR, particularly among children, remains uncertain.

Here, we present the first comprehensive large-scale population data combining 209 lipoprotein measures from a quantitative NMR spectroscopy platform and 809 lipid classes and species from a quantitative LC-MS/MS platform.

Assessment of speech sound disorders: Clinical experiences of Speech-language pathologists in Iran.

This study investigated the effectiveness of augmenting datasets for super-resolution processing of brain Magnetic Resonance Images (MRI) T1-weighted images (T1WIs) using deep learning. By incorporating images with different contrasts from the same subject, this study sought to improve network performance and assess its impact on image quality metrics, such as peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and structural similarity (SSIM). This retrospective study included 240 patients who underwent brain MRI.

Purpose: To investigate the effects of different controlled ovarian stimulation (COS) protocols, including the progestin-primed ovarian stimulation (PPOS), long, short, and the gonadotropin-releasing hormone antagonist protocols, on meiotic spindle visibility and position within the oocyte and clinical outcomes following ICSI.

Methods: Before ICSI, spindle position () just below the polar body (PB) was defined as 0° and categorized as follows:  = 0°, 0° <  ≤ 30°, 30° <  ≤ 60°, 60° <  ≤ 90°, 90° <  ≤ 180°, between the PB and the oolemma, and nonvisible. The clinical outcomes after ICSI were retrospectively analyzed.

Daily rhythm in DNA methylation and the effect of total sleep deprivation.

Numerous hormones and genes exhibit diurnal 24-hr rhythms that can also be affected by sleep deprivation. Here we studied diurnal rhythms in DNA methylation under a 24-hr sleep/wake cycle and a subsequent 29 hr of continual wakefulness (1 night of sleep deprivation). Fifteen healthy men (19-35 years) spent 3 days/nights in a sleep laboratory: (1) adaptation; (2) baseline; (3) total sleep deprivation day/night.

Clinical practice guidelines for management of disseminated intravascular coagulation in Japan 2024. Part 2: hematologic malignancy.

Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) associated with hematologic malignancies, particularly acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), is characterized by marked fibrinolytic activation, which leads to severe bleeding complications. Therefore, appropriate diagnosis and management of DIC are crucial for preventing bleeding-related mortality. However, to date, no clinical guidelines have specifically addressed hematologic malignancy-associated DIC.

Differences in Emotional Awareness Moderate Cytokine-Symptom Associations Among Breast Cancer Survivors.

Cancer survivors have elevated levels of proinflammatory cytokines, which could be associated with cancer-related symptoms. Given that proinflammatory cytokines heighten negative affect by directly affecting the brain, we explored these direct associations and whether differences in levels of emotional awareness moderate the associations between proinflammatory cytokines and cancer-related symptoms. This cross-sectional, secondary analysis of baseline data was collected from 162 female breast cancer survivors (aged 36-70 years), who were enrolled 6 ± 4 months after completing cancer treatment.

Development and validation of clinical prediction model for functional independence measure following stroke rehabilitation.

Objectives: To develop and internally validate a clinical prediction model that includes balance ability and nutritional indices for the motor-functional independence measure (M-FIM) at 90 days post-stroke stroke.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective, single-center study included 566 patients with stroke undergoing rehabilitation at our rehabilitation hospital. The primary outcome was the M-FIM score of >61 at 3 months post-strokes onset.

Preterm birth in assisted reproduction: the mediating role of hypertensive disorders in pregnancy.

Study Question: To what extent can hypertensive disorders in pregnancy (HDP) explain the higher risk of preterm birth following frozen embryo transfer (frozen-ET) and fresh embryo transfer (fresh-ET) in ART compared with naturally conceived pregnancies?

Summary Answer: HDP did not contribute to the higher risk of preterm birth in pregnancies after fresh-ET but mediated 20.7% of the association between frozen-ET and preterm birth.

Evidence on long-term outcomes of children receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) is of utmost importance to optimize current and future therapeutic strategies for HIV. We sought to ascertain the long-term responses among ART-experienced children and their potential implications. A retrospective, observational, facility-based cohort study was conducted among 136 ART-experienced children monitored for 10 years (2007-2017) at the Essos Hospital Centre in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

Hepatoprotective effects of olive leaf extract against carbon tetrachloride-induced oxidative stress: in vivo and in-silico insights into the Nrf2-NFκB pathway.

Olive Leaves Extract (OLE) holds therapeutic potential, traditionally used to treat hepatic ailments, though its molecular mechanisms remain unclear. This study evaluated the efficacy of ethanolic OLE against Carbon Tetrachloride (CCl)-induced oxidative stress in a rat model. Phytochemical analysis was performed using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).

Understanding lipidomics associations and the lipoprotein-related caveats in population epidemiology.

Mass spectrometry lipidomics is becoming customary to analyse serum/plasma samples in epidemiology. The measurables are molecular constituents of lipoprotein particles, but very little is known on the consequences of adjusting lipidomics data with lipoprotein measures. We studied two population cohorts with 5,657 and 2,036 participants.

Timing, setting, and content of patient education prior to goal setting for cancer survivors: a scoping review.

Background: Because the concepts of goal setting and patient education are intertwined, it is important to understand the details of patient education content for cancer survivors. This study aimed to conduct a comprehensive review of the timing (during or after treatment), setting, and content of patient education provided to cancer survivors prior to setting goals.

Methods: A systematic search was conducted across three databases to identify articles on rehabilitation that included patient education, conducted prior to goal setting for cancer survivors.

Reducing loneliness and depressive symptoms in older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic: A pre-post evaluation of a psychosocial online intervention.

Background: Loneliness is related to worse mental health, particularly in people with poor social support. The COVID-19 pandemic altered our lives and ways of social interaction, especially among vulnerable populations such as older adults.

Methods: We designed a group-based psychosocial online intervention for older adults (≥ 65 years) facilitated by gerontologists addressing loneliness consisting of: (i) sharing experiences and promoting peer support to overcome feelings of loneliness and (ii) increasing the chances of establishing successful social relationships.

Background: Tactile-induced analgesia (TIA) is a phenomenon in which different types of tactile stimulation alleviate pain via different mechanisms including empathy. As TIA plays an essential role in therapeutic situations and clinical conditions, it is crucial to determine whether specific tactile stimulations confer distinct benefits.

Methods: Fifty-two subjects (31 females; 21-47 years) were exposed to four distinct experimental conditions involving three types of touch provided within a simulated supportive therapeutic setting.

Cognition, Depression, Pain, and Exercise Motives as Predictors of Longitudinal Profiles of Physical Activity During a Seven-Year Follow-Up Among Older Adults.

This study investigated longitudinal physical activity (PA) profiles over 7 years in the Finnish Geriatric Intervention Study to Prevent Cognitive Impairment and Disability (FINGER). Cognition, depression, pain, and PA motives were included as determinants of the PA profiles. The 1259 participants, aged 60-77 years at baseline, were randomized into either a control group receiving general health advice, or an intervention group offered a comprehensive 2-year multidomain intervention including physical exercise, diet advice, cognitive training, and vascular risk factor management.
