Introduction And Hypothesis: Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is defined as the coexistence of anatomical POP and relevant symptoms. Vaginal bulge is the symptom most closely associated with the anatomical condition in nonpregnant women. Even if childbearing is a major risk factor for the development of POP, there is scant knowledge on the prevalence of specific POP symptoms, and how these symptoms relate to anatomical POP during pregnancy and postpartum.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to identify key clinical data and HRCT features for diagnosing biopsy-confirmed usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP) among patients with interstitial lung disease.
  • Researchers analyzed 91 patients using HRCT and categorized them based on their biopsy results into three groups, focusing on the effectiveness of HRCT in diagnosing UIP.
  • Findings indicated that UIP was characterized by higher reticular pattern and bronchiectasis scores, with the potential to diagnose UIP with 90% certainty in older patients based solely on HRCT findings, suggesting surgical lung biopsy may not be necessary in specific cases.

TCF-1-mediated Wnt signaling regulates Paneth cell innate immune defense effectors HD-5 and -6: implications for Crohn's disease.

Am J Physiol Gastrointest Liver Physiol

September 2014

Dr. Margarete Fischer-Bosch-Institute of Clinical Pharmacology, Stuttgart, Germany; University of Tuebingen, Tuebingen, Germany; Department of Gastroenterology, Robert Bosch Hospital, Stuttgart, Germany;

Wnt signaling regulates small intestinal stem cell maintenance and Paneth cell differentiation. In patients with ileal Crohn's disease (CD), a decrease of Paneth cell α-defensins has been observed that is partially caused by impaired TCF-4 and LRP6 function. Here we show reduced expression of the Wnt signaling effector TCF-1 (also known as TCF-7) in patients with ileal CD.
