Reticular materials constructed from regular molecular building blocks (MBBs) have been widely explored in the past three decades. Recently, there has been increasing interest in the assembly of novel, intricate materials using less-symmetric ligands; however, current methods for predicting structure are not amenable to this increased complexity. To address this gap, we propose herein a generalised version of the net-clipping approach for anticipating the topology of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) assembled from organic linkers and different polygonal and polyhedral MBBs.

Laboulbeniales are highly specialized arthropod-associated fungi. The majority of the almost 2200 known species live on insects, although they also occur on other arthropod hosts. Recently, the number of Laboulbeniales associated with millipedes has increased considerably.

The electrodeposition of stainless steel-like FeCrNi alloys for miniaturised devices is appealing as it would allow combining excellent material properties ( corrosion resistance, hardness, biocompatibility) at low-cost. However, conventional baths often contain hazardous hexavalent chromium. Cr-based alloys electrodeposited from environmentally friendly trivalent chromium electrolytes are crucial for industrial application for facilitating the transition towards sustainable and ecological production and processing.

Isolated macrodontia, consisting of the gigantism of a single tooth, is an extremely rare condition. Only 16 cases of isolated macrodontia of mandibular second premolars have been reported to date. Although the aetiology of this phenomenon remains unknown, many authors have related it to the control of the apoptotic process, leading to the patterning and size of dental cusps.

The distribution of mutational fitness effects (DMFE) is crucial to the evolutionary fate of quasispecies. In this article we analyze the effect of the DMFE on the dynamics of a large quasispecies by means of a phenotypic version of the classic Eigen's model that incorporates beneficial, neutral, deleterious, and lethal mutations. By parameterizing the model with available experimental data on the DMFE of Vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) and Tobacco etch virus (TEV), we found that increasing mutation does not totally push the entire viral quasispecies towards deleterious or lethal regions of the phenotypic sequence space.

Thyroid hormone receptors, THRA and THRB, together with the TSH receptor, TSHR, are key regulators of thyroid function. Alterations in the genes of these receptors (THRA, THRB and TSHR) have been related to thyroid diseases, including thyroid cancer. Moreover, there is evidence suggesting that predisposition to differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) is related to common genetic variants with low penetrance that interact with each other and with environmental factors.

Chelonid herpesvirus (ChHV) and mycoplasmal infections cause similar clinical signs in terrestrial tortoises and may be the most important causative agents of rhinitis-stomatitis complex, a common disease in captive tortoises worldwide. Currently, diagnosis of ChHV and Mycoplasma spp. infections is most often based on serologic testing.

Segregation behaviour studies in t(11;22) carriers have reported controversial results. Whereas some authors have detected a preponderance of 3:1 products, no evidence of such prevalence was found by others. This study reports a fluorescence in-situ hybridization (FISH) segregation analysis on decondensed spermatozoa in two brothers, carriers of the same t(11;22)(q23;q11) rearrangement.

We present a general method for curve-fitting Fourier manipulated spectra, comprising apodized, smoothed, derivatised and deconvoluted spectra. The analytical expressions of Fourier manipulated bands in the spectral domain, needed for the curve-fitting, are usually very complex or do not even exist; hence an accurate curve-fit of Fourier manipulated spectra becomes unfeasible. Our strategy is to construct both the model and their derivatives in the Fourier domain, where they have simple and general expressions, and then Fourier transform them back to the spectral domain.

Sodium chloride (5%) and some antioxidants (400 ppm rosemary extract; 2000 ppm acerola extract; 50 ppm ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA); 1,000, 2,000, and 5,000 pm of sodium hexametaphosphate or 5 and 10% egg white powder) were added to minced chicken. From these mixtures, slurries were made by mixing with water (1:3) at 15,000 rpm for 30 s at 20 °C. Samples were pressurized (300, 500 and 900 MPa for 30 min at 20 °C) or cooked (90 °C for 15 min).

Lipid oxidation of pressurized (300 and 500 MPa for 30 min at 20 °C) or cooked (90 °C for 15 min) minced chicken breast and slurries was evaluated. Mechanical processing, before and after pressurization and cooking, and addition of sodium chloride were also tested as prooxidant factors. At 1, 3, 6 and 9 days of storage at 4 °C, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and hexanal were quantified by means of the TBARS test and solid phase microextraction, respectively.

The ultrastructural organization of the accessory olfactory bulb (AOB) was studied in a squamate reptile, Podarcis hispanica. Five types of neuronal cell bodies were differentiated by their size, location, and ultrastructure. Dark and light small somata were observed in the glomerular layer and correlated with two possible subpopulations of periglomerular cells.
