Methods: Post-hoc analyzes of HeadPoST, a pragmatic cluster-crossover randomized trial of lying flat versus sitting up head positioning in 11,093 patients (age ≥18 years) with acute stroke at 114 hospitals in 9 countries during 2015-2016.

Center of Excellence in Precision Medicine, Pfizer Chile, Santiago, Chile; Centro de Genética y Genómica, Instituto de Ciencias e Innovación en Medicina, Facultad de Medicina Clínica Alemana Universidad del Desarrollo, Santiago, Chile. Electronic address:

About 4% to 7% of the non-small-cell lung cancer patients have anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) rearrangements, and specific targeted therapies improve patients' outcomes significantly. ALK gene fusions are detected by immunohistochemistry or fluorescent in situ hybridization as gold standards in South America. Next-generation sequencing-based assays are a reliable alternative, able to perform simultaneous detection of multiple events from a single sample.

We report a 78-year-old man with a basal Rankin score of 2 points, last seen 10 hours before in good conditions, who arrived at the emergency department with left hemiparesis, hypoesthesia, and spacial neglect. Neuroimaging was compatible with stroke in the territory of the right middle cerebral artery. Due to the evolution time of the stroke, usual thrombolysis was contraindicated.

Departamento de Paciente Crítico, Clínica Alemana de Santiago, Santiago, Chile.

The number of oncological patients (OP) admitted to intensive care units (ICU) for sepsis/septic shock has dramatically increased in recent years. The definition of septic shock has been modified, adding hyperlactatemia as a severity biomarker for mortality. However, it remains poorly reported in septic OP.

Introduction: Reports vary on how sex influences the management and outcome from acute intracerebral haemorrhage. We aimed to quantify sex disparities in clinical characteristics, management, including response to blood pressure lowering treatment, and outcomes in patients with acute intracerebral haemorrhage, through interrogation of two large clinical trial databases.

Patients And Methods: Post-hoc pooled analysis of the Intensive Blood Pressure Reduction in Acute Cerebral Haemorrhage trials 1 and 2, where patients with a hypertensive response (systolic, 150-220 mmHg) after spontaneous intracerebral haemorrhage (<6 h) were randomised to intensive (target <140 mmHg <1 h) or guideline-recommended (<180 mmHg) blood pressure lowering treatment.

Immune-related IncRNA LINC00944 responds to variations in ADAR1 levels and it is associated with breast cancer prognosis.

Life Sci

March 2021

Centro de Genética y Genómica, Instituto de Ciencias e Innovación en Medicina, Facultad de Medicina Clínica Alemana Universidad del Desarrollo, Chile. Electronic address:

Aims: Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of woman deaths worldwide, being a major public health problem. It has been reported that the expression of the RNA-editing enzyme Adenosine Deaminase Acting on RNAs 1 (ADAR1) is upregulated in breast cancer, predicting poor prognosis in patients. A few reports in literature examine ADAR1 and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) interplay in cancer and suggest key roles in cancer-related pathways.

Purpose: Inpatient Video EEG Monitoring (VEM) is the typical study performed in presurgical evaluations. It is expensive and not widely available in developing countries. Recent studies suggested that in selected patients with mesial temporal lobe epilepsy secondary to unilateral mesial temporal sclerosis (MTS), the recording of unilateral interictal epileptiform activity ipsilateral to the MTS may yield sufficient presurgical EEG data.

24/7 Physical Therapy Intervention With Adult Patients in a Chilean Intensive Care Unit: A Cost-Benefit Analysis in a Developing Country.

Value Health Reg Issues

December 2020

Department of Physical Therapy, Speech, and Occupational Therapy, Universidade São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil.

Objectives: Physiotherapy in an adult intensive care unit (ICU) affects health outcome. To justify the investment in ICU physical therapy, the cost savings associated with its benefits need to be established. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the potential cost savings of implementing 24-hour, 7-days-per-week physiotherapist (24/7-PT) in a Chilean public high-complex specialized ICU.

(ANDV) is the etiologic agent of hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome (HCPS), which has a case fatality rate around 35%, with no effective treatment or vaccine available. ANDV neutralizing antibody (NAb) measurements are important for the evaluation of the immune response following infection, vaccination, or passive administration of investigational monoclonal or polyclonal antibodies. The standard assay for NAb measurement is a focus reduction neutralization test (FRNT) featuring live ANDV and must be completed under biosafety level (BSL)-3 conditions.

Electronic address:

Gastropod hematopoiesis occurs at specialized tissues in some species, but the evidence also suggests that hemocyte generation is maybe widespread in the connective tissues or the blood system in others. In Ampullariidae (Caenogastropoda), both the kidney and the lung contain putative hematopoietic cells, which react to immune challenges. In the current study, we wanted to explore if hematopoiesis occurs in the blood of Pomacea canaliculata.

Objective: As uncertainties exist over underlying causes, we aimed to define the characteristics and prognostic significance of low blood pressure (BP) early after the onset of acute stroke.

Methods: Post hoc analyzes of the international Head Positioning in acute Stroke Trial (HeadPoST), a pragmatic cluster-crossover randomized trial of lying flat versus sitting up in stroke patients from nine countries during 2015-2016. Associations of baseline BP and death or dependency [modified Rankin scale (mRS) scores 3-6] and serious adverse events (SAEs) at 90 days were assessed in generalized linear mixed models with adjustment for multiple confounders.
