Should a history of venous thromboembolism be considered a contraindication for scuba diving?

The question of whether scuba diving is safe for patients with a history of venous thromboembolism (VTE) remains unanswered. Cases of VTE have been reported after decompression accidents but not following properly conducted dives. However, the risk of VTE and bleeding on anticoagulant therapy during diving has yet to be defined.

[Recommendations for clinical practice: Prevention and management of varicella zoster virus (VZV) infection during pregnancy and the perinatal period (extended version)].

The Société de Pathologie Infectieuse de Langue Française released in 2024 a new national recommendation for clinical practice on the prevention and management of varicella zoster virus (VZV) infection during pregnancy and the perinatal period. The previous recommendation was issued in 1998, at a time of anti-VZV immunoglobulins shortage; it has hence become obsolete. This recommendation is a formalized expert consensus focusing on infectious diseases management; it is drawn up by a multidisciplinary working group (infectiologists, obstetricians, pediatricians, microbiologists, midwives, hygienists).

Classification of Plant-Based Drinks Based on Volatile Compounds.

The increasing popularity of plant-based drinks has led to an expanded consumer market. However, available quality control technologies for plant-based drinks are time-consuming and expensive. Two alternative quality control methods, gas chromatography with ion mobility spectrometry (GC-IMS) and an electronic nose, were used to assess 111 plant-based drink samples.

Lateral decubitus: its influence on hemodynamic and respiratory function during retroperitoneal robotic assisted laparoscopic pyeloplasty (R-RALP) in children.

Retroperitoneal robotic-assisted laparoscopic pyeloplasty (R-RALP) is the commonest urologic procedure performed in children, entailing retroperitoneal CO2 insufflation and lateral decubitus, whose effects on cardiopulmonary variables are poorly known. We, therefore, studied hemodynamic and respiratory changes due to CO2 insufflation and lateral decubitus in children undergoing R-RALP and their effects on regional tissue oxygenation. Between 1/2021 and 7/2024, children affected by ureteropelvic joint obstruction (UPJO) underwent a pyeloplasty by R-RALP at Necker Enfants Malades Hospital (Paris, France), using a standardized surgical technique and a lung-protecting anesthetic protocol aimed to prevent hypercarbia.

Barriers to influenza vaccination during pregnancy in France: A national population-based study.

Background: Despite French national recommendations since 2012 that all pregnant women be vaccinated against influenza, in 2021 this vaccine coverage is low - around 30 % - in France.

Objectives: To identify barriers to influenza vaccination during pregnancy by assessing how often women were offered this vaccination and how often they accepted it.

Study Design: We used data from the French national perinatal survey (ENP), which covered all births during one week in March 2021 (N = 12,614).

Multifunctional Supramolecular Gels with Strong Mechanical Properties Formed by Self-Assembly of Polyoxometalate-Based Coordination Polymers.

Metallogels built in a bottom-up approach by metal coordination and supramolecular interactions have important potential for the elaboration of smart materials. In this context, we present here the formation of supramolecular coordination polymers driven by the complexation of cobalt(II) or zinc(II) ions with polyoxometalate-based hybrids displaying two terpyridine ligands in a linear arrangement. Thanks to the electrostatic interactions between the polyoxometalate cores and metal nodes, the polymer chains self-assemble into fibers that physically cross-link to form gels above a critical concentration.

Changes in descending pain modulation during anti-TNF therapy. A prospective study in rheumatoid arthritis and spondyloarthritis.

Objective: In rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and spondyloarthritis (SpA), managing persistent pain remains challenging. Little is known regarding impaired pain pathways in these patients and the impact of bDMARDs. The objective of the RAPID (Rheumatism Pain Inhibitory Descending pathways) study was to assess pain thresholds and descending pain modulation in patients with active RA or SpA following introduction of a TNF inhibitor.

The First Lugano Workshop on the role of adenomyosis in ART.

Adenomyosis is an important clinical condition with uncertain prevalence, and clinical focus on adenomyosis in patients undergoing assisted reproductive technology (ART) has increased during recent years. Recognizing the limited clinical knowledge on the impact of adenomyosis on ART outcomes, the First Lugano Adenomyosis Workshop was a symposium involving experts in the field of adenomyosis, covering basic research, imaging, surgery and infertility to highlight current advances and future research areas over a wide range of topics related to adenomyosis. Adenomyosis is characterized by altered oestrogen and progesterone signalling pathways.

Fetal death: Expert consensus of the French College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Fetal death is defined as the spontaneous cessation of cardiac activity after 14 weeks gestational age (GA). Regarding prevention of fetal death in the general population, it is not recommended to counsel or prescribe rest, aspirin, vitamin A, vitamin D, or micronutrient supplementation; systematically look for nuchal cord during prenatal screening ultrasound; or perform systematic antepartum monitoring by cardiotocography for the sole purpose of reducing the risk of fetal death. It is recommended to offer vaccination against influenza in epidemic periods and against SARS-CoV-2.

COVID-19 and Oncofertility: No SARS-CoV-2 in Semen but Inflammation Seems to Affect Sperm Parameters.

The COVID-19 pandemic, driven by SARS-CoV-2, led authorities to recommend halting assisted reproductive technology programs, focusing instead on fertility preservation, for cancer patients. The presence of SARS-CoV-2 in semen remains controversial. This multicentric prospective cohort study, conducted across 12 university medical centers, aimed to determine if SARS-CoV-2 is present in spermatozoa/seminal plasma in cancer patients by RT-PCR and to assess its impact on standard semen parameters.

Haematopoietic gene therapy of non-conditioned patients with Fanconi anaemia-A: results from open-label phase 1/2 (FANCOLEN-1) and long-term clinical trials.

Background: Allogeneic haematopoietic stem-cell transplantation is the standard treatment for bone marrow failure (BMF) in patients with Fanconi anaemia, but transplantation-associated complications such as an increased incidence of subsequent cancer are frequent. The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the infusion of autologous gene-corrected haematopoietic stem cells as an alternative therapy for these patients.

Methods: This was an open-label, investigator-initiated phase 1/2 clinical trial (FANCOLEN-1) and long-term follow-up trial (up to 7 years post-treatment) in Spain.

ERBB2 Comprehensive Profiling and Prognostication in Stage III Colon Cancer: Findings From PETACC8 and IDEA-France Cohorts.

Background & Aims: ERBB2 pathway activation, through amplification or activating mutations, represents a new target for colon cancer (CC) treatment. Molecular methods were compared with the gold standard for assessing ERBB2 status, and the prognostic value of ERBB2 amplification, mutations, and expression was determined using data from 2 phase 3 trials involving nearly 3000 patients with stage III CC.

Methods: In the PETACC8 trial, immunohistochemistry and fluorescence in situ hybridization, DNA, and RNA analysis were performed on 1813, 1719, and 1733 samples, respectively.

Early respiratory features of small for gestational age very preterm children.

Unlabelled: The short-term respiratory consequences of small for gestational (SGA) are only partially known. Our aim was to compare the early respiratory features between SGA and appropriate for gestational age (AGA) in very preterm infants. We conducted a secondary analysis of the French prospective EPIPAGE-2 cohort.

Long-term effects of sirolimus treatment for slow-flow vascular malformations: Real-world evidence from the French observational multicentre SIROLO study.

Rationale: Sirolimus is a treatment for slow-flow vascular malformations (SFVMs). However, the long-term management remains challenging.

Objectives: The SIROLO study assessed the long-term effects and real-life management of oral sirolimus for SFVMs by investigating data from 15 French tertiary centres for vascular anomalies.

Early-onset anorexia nervosa: a scoping review and management guidelines.

Background: Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a serious multifactorial eating disorder characterized by insufficient nutritional intake to maintain a minimum normal weight for one's age and height, a fear of gaining weight and a distorted body image. It affects mainly adolescents, but a decreased age at diagnosis has been reported, leading to the definition of a rare form of AN called early-onset or prepubertal anorexia nervosa (EOAN; ORPHA 525738), with reported epidemiological and clinical specificity. Current knowledge and specific treatments for this particular condition remain scarce.

Pertussis vaccination coverage in women at two months postpartum and associated factors in France, National Perinatal Survey 2021.

Background: Pertussis vaccination in young mothers aims to protect neonates through cocooning. We estimated pertussis vaccination coverage (VC) in women at two months postpartum in France in 2021, and the proportion of women who got vaccinated in the first two months postpartum; associated determinants were studied.

Methods: We used data from the 2021 National Perinatal Surveys conducted in metropolitan France (ENP 2021) and French overseas territories (ENP-DROM 2021).

Impact of endometriosis on partners: Results from the French EndoVie survey.

Objectives: To study the impact of endometriosis on women's partners and evaluate the partners' perceptions and experiences.

Study Design: Between January 21 and 28, 2020, a prospective cross-sectional web-based survey was conducted among partners of women suffering from endometriosis. The investigated sample group (n = 100) was taken from a targeted population among the Ipsos Access panel that collects data from 235,171 French subjects.
