Here, we present a comprehensive single-nucleus RNA sequencing (snRNA-seq) atlas of human craniofacial development from craniofacial tissues of 24 embryos that span six key time points during the embryonic period (4-8 post-conception weeks).

In this bibliometric analysis, the authors analyze the top 100 (T100) most cited articles on cosmetic upper facial plastic surgery. Throughout this study, the objective of the authors is to delineate the trends in cosmetic upper facial surgeries to identify prevailing techniques, emerging trends, and potential areas of future investigation. The articles were indexed from the Web of Science database and were extracted in a double-blinded manner by 2 independent graders.

Trachoma in Sudan: Risk Factors and Clinical Stages in Patients From Two Eye Care Hospitals, 2015.

Background Trachoma is a leading infectious cause of blindness globally. While it has largely been eliminated in developed countries, it remains endemic in many developing regions. This study aimed to examine the clinical stages of trachoma and identify common sociodemographic and household characteristics associated with the disease among patients in Sudan.

Three-dimensional analysis of facial morphology in nine-year-old children with different unilateral orofacial clefts compared to normative data.

Aim: To compare three-dimensional (3D) facial morphology of various unilateral cleft subphenotypes at 9-years of age to normative data using a general face template and automatic landmarking. The secondary objective is to compare facial morphology of 9-year-old children with unilateral fusion to differentiation defects.

Methods: 3D facial stereophotogrammetric images of 9-year-old unilateral cleft patients were imported into 3DMedX® for processing.

To measure preinjection lip augmentation preferences and postinjection satisfaction using the revised Lip Fullness Scale (LFS) in female participants with Fitzpatrick Skin Type V and VI. Females, aged 21 and over, with Fitzpatrick Skin Type V and VI desiring lip augmentation were recruited from a high-volume outpatient facial plastic surgery clinic.

Financial Impact of Medicare Payment Reform for E/M Visits on Compensation for Otolaryngologic Procedures in 2023.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently increased payment for evaluation and management (E/M) visits, but did not apply these updates to post-operative global period visits. We investigated the resulting Medicare fee-for-service revenue loss for otolaryngologists. Using publicly available Medicare spending/utilization data, we estimated how much additional payment otolaryngologists would have received in 2023 if CMS had reimbursed global period visits at the same rates as other E/M visits.

Over time, a multitude of reconstruction options for these defects have been imagined. Unfortunately, the majority involve the use of both local and regional flaps, which either lack labial structure or disorganize the oral commissures as nodal oral function points.

Feasibility of the preauricular transparotid approach in open reduction and internal fixation of intracapsular mandibular condyle fracture.

Mandibular condyle fractures pose surgical challenges owing to their proximity to the facial nerve and the complex temporomandibular joint anatomy. Traditional approaches limit exposure and hinder effective fracture management. The preauricular transparotid approach is a potential alternative.

BabyFM: Towards accurate 3D baby facial models using spectral decomposition and asymmetry swapping.

In this paper, we present the first publicly available 3D statistical facial shape model of babies, the Baby Face Model (BabyFM). Constructing a model of the facial geometry of babies entails specific challenges, such as occlusions, extreme and uncontrollable expressions, and data shortage. We address these challenges by proposing (1) a non-template dependent method that jointly estimates a 3D facial baby-specific template and the point-to-point correspondences; (2) a novel method to establish correspondences based on the spectral decomposition of the Laplace Beltrami Operator, which provides a more robust theoretical foundation than state-of-the-art methods; and (3) an asymmetry-swapping strategy to alleviate the shortage of large scale datasets by decoupling the identity-related and the asymmetry-related shape deformation fields.

Computational simulation of cranial soft tissue expansion on the cranium during early postnatal growth in humans.

The importance of interactions between neighbouring rapidly growing tissues of the head during development is recognised, yet this competition for space remains incompletely understood. The developing structures likely interact through a variety of mechanisms, including directly genetically programmed growth, and are mediated via physiological signalling that can be triggered by structural interactions. In this study, we aimed to investigate a different but related potential mechanism, that of simple mechanical plastic deformation of neighbouring structures of the head in response to soft tissue expansion during human postnatal ontogeny.

Face Boundary Formulation for Harmonic Models: Face Image Resembling.

This paper is devoted to numerical algorithms based on harmonic transformations with two goals: (1) face boundary formulation by blending techniques based on the known characteristic nodes and (2) some challenging examples of face resembling. The formulation of the face boundary is imperative for face recognition, transformation, and combination. Mapping between the source and target face boundaries with constituent pixels is explored by two approaches: cubic spline interpolation and ordinary differential equation (ODE) using Hermite interpolation.

Exploring Innovative Approaches for the Analysis of Micro- and Nanoplastics: Breakthroughs in (Bio)Sensing Techniques.

Plastic pollution, particularly from microplastics (MPs) and nanoplastics (NPs), has become a critical environmental and health concern due to their widespread distribution, persistence, and potential toxicity. MPs and NPs originate from primary sources, such as cosmetic microspheres or synthetic fibers, and secondary fragmentation of larger plastics through environmental degradation. These particles, typically less than 5 mm, are found globally, from deep seabeds to human tissues, and are known to adsorb and release harmful pollutants, exacerbating ecological and health risks.

Surgical treatment of mammalian bites----experience in the management of facial wounds by dog and cat bite in China.

Mammalian bites to the face challenges not only related to wound healing but also to aesthetic outcomes. This study aims to summarize 7 years of experience in treating mammalian bite wounds and propose a surgical approach for managing these wounds. From July 2016 to August 2023, 185 cases were treated and retrospectively evaluated.

Transtemporal Endoscopic Deep Plane Face Lift.

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 140 patients (133 women and 7 men) 33-67 years of age who underwent TEDPF from February 2020 to March 2023.
