Recent genome-wide association studies (GWASs) of several individual sleep traits have identified hundreds of genetic loci, suggesting diverse mechanisms. Moreover, sleep traits are moderately correlated, so together may provide a more complete picture of sleep health, while illuminating distinct domains. Here we construct novel sleep health scores (SHSs) incorporating five core self-report measures: sleep duration, insomnia symptoms, chronotype, snoring, and daytime sleepiness, using additive (SHS-ADD) and five principal components-based (SHS-PCs) approaches.

Situational factors can influence cognitive performance and should be considered for conducting cognitive assessments. The objective of this project was to develop a checklist for Cognitive Assessment Requirements (CARE) to identify these situational factors before conducting cognitive assessments and account for them. This study employed a four-round Delphi approach involving 22 experts to identify situational factors that can impact cognitive assessment results.

We propose the addition of usability validation to the extended V3 framework, now "V3+", and describe a pragmatic approach to ensuring that sensor-based digital health technologies can be used optimally at scale by diverse users. Alongside the original V3 components (verification; analytical validation; clinical validation), usability validation will ensure user-centricity of digital measurement tools, paving the way for more inclusive, reliable, and trustworthy digital measures within clinical research and clinical care.

Arsenic mobility and microbial community composition in the sediments of coastal wetlands driven by tidal action.

J Environ Sci (China)

July 2025

School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Yancheng Institute of Technology, Yancheng 224051, China; Jiangsu Province Ecology and Environment Protection Key Laboratory of Ecology and Pollution Control of Coastal Wetlands, Yancheng 224051, China.

Arsenic (As) pollution in coastal wetlands has been receiving growing attention. However, the exact mechanism of As mobility driven by tidal action is still not completely understood. The results reveal that lower total As concentrations in solution were observed in the flood-ebb treatment (FE), with the highest concentration being 7.

Context: Rates of pain and stress are found in greater numbers in cancer patients than in the general population. Cancer patients often are concerned about unwanted side effects that can arise from taking medications to lower their pain and stress. As doctors are reaching for evidence-based, non-pharmaceutical, adjunct modalities, previous research indicates that visual art-making shows promise to help improve perceptions of pain and stress caused by a cancer diagnosis and treatment.

This study explores the effects of calcium channel blockers (CCBs) on sperm function, a critical aspect of male fertility. Male infertility, responsible for 30-50% of infertility cases, often involves issues with sperm motility and capacitation, both of which are heavily influenced by calcium ions and specific ion channels like CatSper and voltage-dependent calcium channels (VDCCs). CCBs, which are commonly prescribed for cardiovascular conditions, inhibit these calcium channels, potentially disrupting sperm function.

Background: The benefit of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD) and cardiovascular resynchronization therapy (CRT-D) in patients supported with a HeartMate 3 left ventricular assist device (LVAD) remains uncertain.

Methods: An analysis of the MOMENTUM 3 randomized clinical trial and the first 1000 patients in the Continued Access Protocol trial. Patients were divided into three groups based on the presence of ICD and/or CRT-D: No device (n=153, 11%), ICD only (n=699, 50.

Introduction: Carotid artery stenosis is a significant contributor to ischemic strokes, and its surgical management includes carotid artery endarterectomy (CEA), transfemoral carotid artery stenting (TF-CAS), and trans carotid artery revascularization (TCAR). CEA has traditionally been preferred, but TF-CAS and TCAR are also excellent alternative options if the anatomy of the vessels allows them. This study reports our short- and mid-term outcomes after carotid artery revascularization in symptomatic patients at a stroke center.

Objective: Lipids are key molecules for atherosclerosis, with tight regulation mechanisms, making them potential biomarkers for disease-specific diagnostics and therapeutics. Therefore, we aim to perform a systematic literature review on lipidomic analysis in serum/plasma and plaque samples of patients with carotid atherosclerosis.

Methods: We performed a systematic review following the PRISMA guidelines on the lipidomic profile in serum/plasma and carotid artery plaques from patients with significant carotid disease by degree of stenosis in preoperative imaging and clinical presentation (symptomatic, asymptomatic, radiation-induced carotid disease).

Critical Review of Guidelines for Type B Aortic Dissection.

Ann Vasc Surg

January 2025

Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL, USA.

The management of type B aortic dissection is one of the most challenging and debated topics in contemporary cardiovascular surgery practice. Patients with acute or chronic dissection-related complications, face high morbidity and mortality if not treated promptly. For most patients requiring intervention, thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) is considered the gold standard.

In this Expert Opinion, we provide the rationale for concluding that radiation segmentectomy (using RADSEG method), a technique of administrating ablative, complete necrosis-inducing trans-arterial Yttrium-90 (Y90) radiotherapy in limited-disease burden hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), is curative. Currently, curative options for early stage and other carefully selected HCC patients include transplantation, resection, and ablation. Because of issues with organ availability, co-morbidities preventing resection, and tumor size and location limiting ablation, other treatments are necessary for this selected patient population.

Food literacy (FL) is the capability to make healthy food choices in different settings, contexts, and situations. Addressing factors such as competencies, self-efficacy and social norms enables sustainable positive change in nutrition behaviour. This study assesses the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary effectiveness of a lay-led FL intervention for Arabic and Hebrew-speaking women in community settings, utilizing a train-the-trainer model.

Electronic address:

Introduction: Although many white matter tracts underlying language functions have been identified, even in aggregate they do not provide a sufficiently detailed and expansive picture to enable us to fully understand the computational processes that might underly language production and comprehension. We employed diffusion tensor tractography (DTT) with a tensor distribution model to more extensively explore the white matter tracts supporting core language functions. Our study was guided by hypotheses stemming largely from the aphasia literature.

Background: Segmentation models for clinical data experience severe performance degradation when trained on a single client from one domain and distributed to other clients from different domain. Federated Learning (FL) provides a solution by enabling multi-party collaborative learning without compromising the confidentiality of clients' private data.

Methods: In this paper, we propose a cross-domain FL method for Weakly Supervised Semantic Segmentation (FL-W3S) of white blood cells in microscopic images.
