Background: The recommendation for the implementation of mammography screening in women aged 45-49 and 70-74 is conditional with moderate certainty of the evidence. The aim of this study is to simulate the long-term outcomes (2020-50) of using different age range scenarios in the breast cancer screening programme of the Valencia Region (Spain), considering different programme participation rates.
Methods: Three age range scenarios (S) were simulated with the EU-TOPIA tool, considering a biennial screening interval: S1, 45-69 years old (y); S2, 50-69 y and S3, 45-74 y.

Extensive gonococcal surveillance has been performed using molecular typing at global, regional, national and local levels. The three main genotyping schemes for this pathogen, multi-locus sequence typing (MLST), multi-antigen sequence typing (NG-MAST) and sequence typing for antimicrobial resistance (NG-STAR), allow inter-laboratory and inter-study comparability and reproducibility and provide an approximation to the gonococcal population structure. With whole-genome sequencing (WGS), we obtain a substantially higher and more accurate discrimination between strains compared to previous molecular typing schemes.

ST274 is an international epidemic high-risk clone, mostly associated with hospital settings and appears to colonize cystic fibrosis (CF) patients worldwide. To understand the relevant mechanisms for its success, the biological and genomic characteristics of 11 ST274- strains from clinical and non-clinical origins were analyzed. The extensively drug-resistant (XDR/DTR), the non-susceptible to at least one agent (modR), and the -truncated (by IS) strains showed a chronic infection phenotype characterized by loss of serotype-specific antigenicity and low motility.

Availability of green and blue spaces in the area of residence has been related to various health outcomes during childhood, including neurodevelopment. Some studies have shown that children living in greener and/or bluer areas score better on cognitive tasks although the evidence is inconsistent. These protective effects are hypothesized to occur in part through reductions in air pollution exposure and odds of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) reinfection may hamper HCV elimination in prisons. We aimed to (i) determine the reinfection rate in people treated for HCV in Catalan prisons, (ii) measure reinfection in people entering prisons, and (iii) characterize the molecular epidemiology of HCV in prisons and people who inject drugs (PWID) in the community. Re-HCV was a prospective study in eight prisons (2019-2020) including two groups: (1) people cured with treatment in prison and followed-up every 6 months, and (2) people testing HCV-RNA positive at incarceration.

Carbapenem-resistant is a major cause of hospital-acquired infections and the fastest-growing pathogen in Europe. Carbapenem resistance was detected at the Consorcio Hospital General Universitario de Valencia (CHGUV) in early 2015, and there has been a significant increase in carbapenem-resistant isolates since then. In this study, we collected carbapenem-resistant isolates from this hospital during the period of increase (from 2015 to 2019) and studied how carbapenem-resistant isolates emerged and spread in the hospital.

Limiting outbreaks in long-term care facilities (LTCFs) is a cornerstone strategy to avoid an excess of COVID-19-related morbidity and mortality and to reduce its burden on the health system. We studied a large outbreak that occurred at an LTCF, combining methods of classical and genomic epidemiology analysis. The outbreak lasted for 31 days among residents, with an attack rate of 98% and 57% among residents and staff, respectively.

Leptospirosis is the most common zoonosis worldwide, and is increasingly common in poor urban communities, where there is inadequate sewage disposal and abundance of domestic and peridomestic animals. There are many risk factors associated with the disease, such as contaminated water exposure, close contact with animals, floods, recreational activities related to water, wet agriculture. The symptoms of leptospirosis are common to other infectious diseases and, if not treated, it can lead to meningitis, liver failure, kidney damage and death.

We investigated whether peripheral blood levels of SARS-CoV-2 Spike (S) receptor binding domain antibodies (anti-RBD), neutralizing antibodies (NtAb) targeting Omicron S, and S-reactive-interferon (IFN)-γ-producing CD4 and CD8 T cells measured after a homologous booster dose (3D) with the Comirnaty® vaccine was associated with the likelihood of subsequent breakthrough infections due to the Omicron variant. An observational study including 146 nursing home residents (median age, 80 years; range, 66-99; 109 female) evaluated for an immunological response after 3D (at a median of 16 days). Anti-RBD total antibodies were measured by chemiluminescent immunoassay.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) Delta variant breakthrough infections in nursing home residents following vaccination with Comirnaty® COVID-19 vaccine were characterized. In total, 201 participants (median age, 87 years; range, 64-100; 133 female) from two nursing homes in the Valencian community (Spain) were included.
