Cemetery leachate generated by the process of cadaveric decomposition is a significant contaminant of several matrices in the cemetery environment (soil, groundwater, and surface water). The biogenic amines cadaverine and putrescine stand out among the cemetery leachate contaminants, since they are potentially carcinogenic compounds. This review article presents a discussion of possible environmental impacts caused by the increase in deaths resulting from COVID-19 as its central theme.

The formation of C-F···H-C "hydrogen bonds" has been a controversial subject because, in principle, fluorine is hardly an acceptor for less acidic protons contrasting to the C-F···H-O and C-F···H-N hydrogen bonds. Nevertheless, the interaction is emerging as a powerful implement for confining the torsional rotation in the design of fully coplanar π-conjugated polymers. Heretofore, no evidence of the C-F···H-C interaction has been observed in solutions.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a genetic disease linked to the X chromosome induced by mutations in the dystrophin gene. Neuroprotective drugs, such as pregabalin (PGB), can improve motor function through the modulation of excitatory synapses, together with anti-apoptotic and anti-inflammatory effects. The present work studied the effects of PGB in the preservation of dystrophic peripheral nerves, allowing motor improvements in MDX mice.

Methods: Using a cross-sectional design, a total of 44 individuals participated in this study between March and June 2020, 22 of which had CP (14 males and 8 females, mean age = 19 years, ranging between 11 and 28 years) and 22 typically developing individuals, matched by age and sex to the individuals with CP.
Maca root () extract is a worldwide consumed food supplement for sexual dysfunctions, increasing sperm production and its motility, and alleviating menopausal symptoms. Once maca root has a role in cell proliferation and motility, and its consumption may increase along with age, mainly in menopausal women, we aimed to investigate the plant effects on triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) cell lines. Standardized maca root powdered extract showed significant cytotoxic activity in both MDA-MB-231 and Hs578T cells, and the ICs were 2000 μg/ml and 3000 μg/ml, respectively.

Double-imaging photoelectron photoion coincidence spectroscopy (PEPICO) with tunable synchrotron vacuum ultraviolet radiation was used to record threshold ionization mass spectra of the halocyclohexanes CHX (X = Cl, Br, and I). Calculations show that experimental dissociative ionization thresholds correspond to thermochemical limits. Among the processes observed (X loss, followed by CH or CH loss; CHCl loss; HCl loss, followed by CH or CH loss), halogen atom loss can be used to derive enthalpies of formation and C-X bond energies in the cation.

A heavy particle impact vibrational excitation and dissociation model for CO is presented. This state-to-state model is based on the forced harmonic oscillator (FHO) theory, which is more accurate than current state-of-the-art kinetic models of CO based on first-order perturbation theory. The first excited triplet state B of CO, including its vibrational structure, is considered in our model, and a more consistent approach to CO dissociation is also proposed.

The dynamics of photoinduced O-H bond fission in five fluorinated phenols (2-fluorophenol, 3-fluorophenol, 2,6-difluorophenol, 3,4,5-trifluorophenol, and pentafluorophenol) have been investigated by H Rydberg atom photofragment translational spectroscopy following excitation at many wavelengths in the range 220 ≤ λ ≤ 275 nm. The presence of multiple fluorine substituents reduces the efficiency of O-H bond fission (by tunneling) from the first excited (1ππ*) electronic state, whereas all bar the perfluorinated species undergo O-H bond fission when excited at shorter wavelengths (to the 2ππ* state). As in bare phenol, O-H bond fission is deduced to occur by non-adiabatic coupling at conical intersections between the photoprepared "bright" ππ* states and the 1πσ* potential energy surface.
