In 1924 the German psychiatrist Hans Berger made the first electroencephalographical (EEG) recording of cerebral activity in humans. Worldwide, EEG developed into a widely used diagnostic method and was introduced in Sweden in 1937. Today EEG is an essential diagnostic and monitoring standard in epilepsy, sleep disorders, neonatology and intensive care, and provides prognostic information after perinatal asphyxia and cardiac arrest.

The pyroelectric effect is extensively used in infrared imaging, detection systems, military equipment, and smart furniture, which require pyroelectric materials to simultaneously possess a high pyroelectric coefficient () and a high Curie temperature () for circuit integration. However, the of commercial lead zirconate titanate (PZT) is limited to 230 °C, imposing an insurmountable challenge in the integration. Here, we investigated the pyroelectricity in NaBiTiO (NBT) with a high Curie temperature (∼660 °C), meeting the temperature requirements for integration.

Antiaromatic rings are infamously unstable and difficult to work with but they possess unusual electronic properties that make them interesting for fundamental and applied research. This perspective presents reports on discrete or polymeric assemblies made from antiaromatic building blocks, bound by either covalent linkages or supramolecular interactions. Compared to polymeric materials, discrete assemblies are more commonly studied, but most efforts have been devoted to their preparation and fundamental property studies, whereas applications are scarcely suggested.

Aims: FGFR-fused central nervous system (CNS) tumours are rare and are usually within the glioneuronal and neuronal tumours or the paediatric-type diffuse low-grade glioma spectrum. Among this spectrum, FGFR2 fusion has been documented in tumours classified by DNA-methylation profiling as polymorphous low-grade neuroepithelial tumours of the young (PLNTY), a recently described tumour type. However, FGFR2 fusions have also been reported in glioneuronal tumours, highlighting the overlapping diagnostic criteria and challenges.

The 2004 tsunami and coastal subsidence resulted in 97% mangrove loss in the Nicobar Islands (India), leading to major social-ecological change. We assessed how the Nicobar mangrove social-ecological system (SES) responded to the 2004 event using the adaptive cycle (AC) framework. We describe the changes across AC phases (collapse-Ω, reorganisation-α, growth-r, and conservation-K) concerning various capital types (natural, built, human, social), connectedness and resilience.

For cancer patients with a high risk of ovarian tissue metastasis, ovarian autotransplantation is not advised due to the potential spread of malignant cells. Ex vivo purging of ovarian fragments may offer a more suitable alternative for fertility restoration. Eradicating malignant cells should be done selectively without affecting follicles or ovarian stromal cells (SCs).

Background: Alemtuzumab (ALEM) is a humanised monoclonal antibody that depletes circulating lymphocytes by selectively targeting CD52, which is expressed in high levels on T- and B-lymphocytes. This depletion is followed by lymphocyte repopulation and a cytokine expression shift towards a lesser inflammatory profile, both of which may contribute to prolonged efficacy. National recommendations for enrolling and treating multiple sclerosis (MS) patients with ALEM have been established.

Gyrate atrophy of the choroid and retina (GACR) is due to ornithine aminotransferase (OAT) deficiency, which causes hyperornithinemia, leading to retinal pigment epithelium, followed by choroidal and retinal degeneration. Adeno-associated virus serotype 8 (AAV8) vector-mediated OAT (AAV8-OAT) liver gene transfer reduces ornithinemia in the Oat mouse model of GACR and improves retinal function and structure. Since OAT is expressed in various tissues including the retina, we investigated the efficacy of restoration of OAT expression in either retina or liver or both tissues on the retinal phenotype of Oat mice.

Common Spatial Pattern (CSP) has been recognized as a standard and powerful method for the identification of Electroencephalography (EEG)-based Motor Imagery (MI) tasks when implementing brain-computer interface (BCI) systems towards the motor rehabilitation of lost movements. The combination of BCI systems with robotic systems, such as upper limb exoskeletons, has proven to be a reliable tool for neuromotor rehabilitation. Therefore, in this study, the effects of temporal and frequency segmentation combined with layer increase for spatial filtering were evaluated, using three variations of the CSP method for the identification of passive movement vs.

The microplastics (MPs) vector effect of environmental contaminants (such as polychlorinated biphenyls-PCBs) to organism tissues is currently one of the major concerns regarding MPs pollution in the marine environment. The relative importance of MPs as vectors for the bioaccumulation of contaminants to marine organisms compared to other naturally occurring particles has been poorly investigated and never by using biofilm-covered particles. The present study compares the role of biofilm-covered microplastics and sand particles as vectors for the transfer and bioaccumulation of ¹⁴C-PCB-153 into various body compartments of the sea urchin Paracentrotus lividus.
