Activity of CDK4/6 inhibitors and parameters affecting survival in elderly patients in age-subgroups: Turkish Oncology Group (TOG) retrospective study.

Highly selective inhibitors of cyclin-dependent kinase 4 and 6 (CDK4/6is) have emerged as a standart of care for first- and second-line therapies in combination with endocrine therapy (ET) for HR+/HER2- metastatic breast cancer (MBC) patients. It has been reported that combination therapy is more effective than ET alone and is safe in elderly patients as well as young patients. Nevertheless, elderly and very old patients with HR+/HER2-MBC treated with CDK4/6 inhibitor (CDK4/6i) combinations are relatively underrepresented in randomized controlled trials.

Effects of virtual reality application on pain, anxiety, and vital signs due to port catheter needle insertion: Randomized controlled study.

Purpose: This study aims to examine the effects of virtual reality applications on pain, anxiety, and vital signs during port catheter needle insertion in adult cancer patients.

Methods: The research followed a randomized controlled design as intervention and control groups. In the intervention group, patients received virtual reality sessions with five images in addition to routine procedures during the port catheter needle insertion.

Retrospective analysis of hemophilia B in Turkey: identifying main characteristics and treatment options.

Background: Hemophilia B (HB), an X-linked recessive inherited bleeding disorder, exhibits a high prevalence among males.

Objectives: To present the first national cohort of persons with HB to define the demographics, clinical characteristics, and treatment patterns in Turkey.

Methods: This multicenter, retrospective study included 433 alive persons with HB registered in 35 centers between 1961 and 2018.

Treatment Patterns and Clinical Outcomes in Patients with Hodgkin Lymphoma from Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and South Africa: Subgroup Analysis from the International Multicenter Retrospective B-HOLISTIC Study.

Objective: B-HOLISTIC was a real-world retrospective study of treatment patterns and clinical outcomes in Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) in regions outside Europe and North America. This subgroup analysis reports findings from Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and South Africa.

Materials And Methods: Patients aged ≥18 years and diagnosed with stage IIB-IV classical HL receiving frontline chemotherapy (frontline cHL) and/or with relapsed/refractory HL (RRHL) from January 2010 to December 2013 were assessed.

Secukinumab May Be an Effective Treatment Option for Axial Spondyloarthritis and Psoriatic Arthritis Patients with a History of Malignancy: Multicenter Real-Life Experience from Turkey.

: Secukinumab is a monoclonal antibody against interleukin 17 approved for patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA), psoriatic arthritis (PsA), and psoriasis. Treating axSpA and PsA patients with a history of malignancy is a challenge. While initial results on the applicability of secukinumab in this patient group are positive, the number of studies on this topic remains limited.

Magnetic resonance imaging characteristics of musculoskeletal hydatid disease.

Background: Hydatid disease is a parasitic infection seen in endemic areas. Musculoskeletal hydatid disease is rarely reported.

Purpose: To describe the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features of musculoskeletal hydatid disease and to highlight the specific findings in the diagnosis of hydatid cysts.

Limbal graft transplantation: a rare implementation in pediatric limbal stem cell deficiency.

Purpose: To evaluate limbal graft transplantation success in pediatric patients with chemical injury-induced limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD) using the 'LSCD Working Group' staging system.

Methods: Medical records of 11 eyes of 11 children who underwent limbal graft transplantation (limbal autograft/limbal allograft) were included. Surgical success was defined as improvement in the post-operative 1st year LSCD stage.

Schwannian and Perineuriomatous Differentiation in a Series of Giant Congenital Melanocytic Nevi.

Close relationship between melanocytes and neural cells is accepted to reflect their common derivation from the neural crest and tumors combining both elements. We present a series of 10 patients with giant congenital melanocytic nevi (CMN) in which a secondary proliferation (11 lesions) with schwannian and/or perineuriomatous differentiation developed in the course of the disease. The age of the patients (4 male and 6 female) at the time of surgery and histological assessment varied from 3 months to 57 years.

Micro-RNA-371a-3p in Germ Cell Testicular Tumors on Diagnosis: A Prospective Case-Control Study in Turkish Population.

Purpose: We aimed to evaluate the diagnostic sensitivity and specificity of the miRNA-371a-3p for the primary diagnosis of germ cell tumors (GCT) and to investigate its relationship with pathological factors and clinical stage in the Turkish population.

Materials And Methods: In this prospective study, a total of 60 patients with GCTs, and 40 healthy male controls were examined for serum levels of miRNA-371a-3p before orchiectomy and again two weeks after surgery. The miRNA-371a-3p, alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), and beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (bHCG) levels in the preoperative and postoperative periods were compared at different clinical stages.

The Relationship Between Nurses' Sleep Quality and Their Tendency to Commit Medical Errors.

Comparison of the adolescent pregnancy outcomes between refugees and Turkish citizens.

Background: Adolescent pregnant women have significant risk factors in terms of preterm birth, low birth weight, gestational and neonatal complications, and neonatal and infant deaths. In many countries, living as a refugee differs from living as a local citizen regarding education level, access to health services, and lifestyle. We aimed to compare the obstetric, perinatal, and neonatal outcomes of Turkish and refugee adolescent pregnant women admitted to a tertiary maternity center.

Treatment outcomes and prognostic factors in patients with driver mutant non-small cell lung cancer and de novo brain metastases.

Central nervous system (CNS) metastases can be seen at a rate of 30% in advanced stages for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Growing evidence indicates the predictive roles of driver gene mutations in the development of brain metastases (BM) in recent years, meaning that oncogene-driven NSCLC have a high incidence of BM at diagnosis. Today, 3rd generation targeted drugs with high intracranial efficacy, which can cross the blood-brain barrier, have made a positive contribution to survival for these patients with an increased propensity to BM.

Current barriers and recommendations on the diagnosis of transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy: a Delphi study.

Objectives: This study has been conducted to investigate the non-invasive diagnostic journey of patients with a transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy (aTTR-CM) in Turkey, identify the challenges and uncertainties encountered on the path to diagnosis from the perspectives of expert physicians, and develop recommendations that can be applied in such cases.

Methods: This study employed a three-round modified Delphi method and included 10 cardiologists and five nuclear medicine specialists. Two hematologists also shared their expert opinions on the survey results related to hematological tests during a final face-to-face discussion.

Ocular manifestations of granulomatosis with polyangiitis: report from a tertiary eye care center.

Purpose: To report demographic characteristics and ophthalmological manifestations of patients with granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) in a tertiary eye care center in Turkey.

Methods: Medical records of patients with GPA-related ocular manifestations evaluated between 2013 and 2023 were included. Demographic and clinical characteristics of the patients including nature of systemic involvement, ophthalmologic symptoms and signs, laboratory investigations and treatment modality were reviewed.

Evaluation of sarcopenia and phase angle in elderly patients with Parkinson's Disease.

Purpose: To investigate sarcopenia and related factors and to determine the disease-specific phase angle (PhA) cut-off score in detecting sarcopenia in elderly patients with Parkinson's Disease (PD).

Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with 89 participants. The Mini-Nutritional Assessment (MNA), the Eating Attitude Test-10 (EAT-10), the Physical Activity Scale for The Elderly (PASE) questionnaire and the Hoehn-Yahr scale have been used.

Objectives: Paraneoplastic arthritis (PA) is one of the paraneoplastic syndromes. Both laboratory and clinical findings similar to rheumatological diseases can be seen. In this study we aimed to present the clinical and laboratory findings, malignancy types and pathological diagnoses of patients with paraneoplastic arthritis.

The Relation Between Serum-based Systemic Inflammatory Biomarkers and Locoregional Lymph Node Metastasis in Clinical Stages I to II Right-sided Colon Cancers: The Role of Platelet-to-Lymphocyte Ratio.

Background: It aimed to evaluate the relationship between the systemic inflammatory markers and the lymph node metastasis in clinical stages I to II right-sided colon cancers.

Patients And Methods: A total of 51 eligible clinical stages I to II right-side located colon cancer patients were included in the study. Complete mesocolic excision and central vascular ligation procedures were performed in all cases.

Effect of Cycloplegia on Anterior Segment Structures and Scleral Thickness in Emmetropic Eyes.

To evaluate the effects of topical cyclopentolate hydrochloride-induced cycloplegia on anterior segment biomechanics in emmetropic eyes using anterior segment-optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT). Twenty-five emmetropic eyes of 25 volunteers were included. All underwent central corneal thickness (CCT) and anterior chamber depth (ACD) measurements.
