Objectives: While colon cancer (CC) risk is associated with several lifestyle-related factors, including physical inactivity, smoking and diet, the contribution of occupation to CC morbidity remains largely unclear. Growing evidence indicates that gastrointestinal infections like salmonellosis could contribute to CC development. We performed a nationwide registry study to assess potential associations between occupation (history) and CC, including also those occupations with known increased exposure to gastrointestinal pathogens like METHODS: Person-level occupational data for all residents in The Netherlands were linked to CC diagnosis data.

Objective: The present study was aimed to explore the potential ameliorating effects of N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) against radioiodine (RAI)-induced early liver damage.

Methods: Thirty Wistar Albino male rats were arbitrarily allocated into three groups each containing 10 rats: the control group (group 1); the RAI group (group 2), oral 111 MBq/kg radioiodine was administered to rats; the RAI + NAC group (group 3), 150 mg/kg/day intraperitoneal NAC treatment was initiated 3 days prior to the RAI administration and continued for 10 days. Liver samples were obtained 24 h after the last dose of NAC therapy for biochemical and histopathologic evaluation.

Background: The temporal information of trypanosomosis and tsetse apparent density is very limited in the southern part of the country. So, the study was conducted to estimate the temporal, dry and wet seasons, prevalence of cattle trypanosomosis, and tsetse fly apparent density and its infection by trypanosome along the escarpment of Omo River, Loma district, Southern Ethiopia.

Methods: A total of 964 cattle (482 in each seasons) were examined for trypanosomosis using buffy coat technique.

Purpose: Today, almost 15 years have passed since the whole genome sequence (WGS) of a Leishmania parasite was completed for the first time. However, information on the genetics of these parasites remains to be elucidated. Genome-based studies may contribute to control strategies for leishmaniasis.

Objective: Periodontitis may contribute to vascular damage, resulting in the destabilization of atherosclerotic plaque leading to acute coronary syndrome (ACS). In this study, we explored the effect of non-surgical periodontal treatment (NSPT) on cardiovascular blood biomarkers and gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) neutrophil elastase (NE) and α1-proteinase inhibitor (α-1PI) levels in periodontitis (P) participants with and without ACS.

Materials And Methods: Medical and dental examinations were performed to diagnose ACS and periodontitis, respectively.

COVID-19 disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus has had serious adverse effects globally in 2020 which are foreseen to extend in 2021, as well. The most important of these effects was exceeding the capacity of the healthcare infrastructures, and the related inability to meet the need for various medical equipment especially within the first months of the crisis following the emergence and rapid spreading of the virus. Urgent global demand for the previously unavailable personal protective equipment, sterile disposable medical supplies as well as the active molecules including vaccines and drugs fueled the need for the coordinated efforts of the scientific community.

Background: Atrioventricular canal defect is a rare congenital disorder of the heart and describes the presence of an atrial septal defect, a variable presentation of ventricular septal alterations including ventricular septal defect malformations in the mitral and tricuspid valves. The defect has been described in human beings, dogs, cats, pigs, and horses.

Case Presentation: This paper describes the case of a complete atrioventricular canal defect in a four-year-old intact male pet ferret (Mustela putorius furo), which was presented due to posterior weakness, ataxia, and decreased appetite.

The objective of this study is to develop a new self-nanoemulsifying system containing exendin-4 with or without enzyme inhibitor chymostatin and to evaluate the effects of oral administration of exendin-4 and exendin-4/chymostatin loaded self nanoemulsifying system on plasma exendin-4, plasma insulin, blood glucose levels and to compare with the oral and subcutaneous administration of exendin-4 in non-diabetic and streptozotocin-induced type 2 diabetic rats. Exendin-4 and exendin-4/chymostatin loaded self-nanoemulsifying system containing ethyl oleate as the oil phase, Cremophor EL®/Labrasol® as the surfactants and propylene glycol as the co-solvent were prepared. The mean droplet size, polydispersity index, zeta potential and viscosity of exendin-4 loaded self-nanoemulsifying system were found as 24.
