Pyometra is a common life-threatening inflammatory disease with a complex etiopathogenesis that develops during the diestrus stage and can be observed in elderly intact bitches. The present study evaluated five aquaporin (AQP1, AQP2, AQP3, AQP5, and AQP9) transcript abundances and immunolocalization in the uterine tissue, and investigated their relationship with uterine tissue and blood lipopolysaccharide (LPS) concentration, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPX) activity, and nitric oxide (NO) production in dogs suffering from pyometra. The study sampled 36 client-owned intact bitches from different breeds, of which 24 cases were diagnosed with pyometra.

Introduction: In rheumatoid arthritis (RA), immunosuppressive therapies may achieve symptomatic relief, but do not induce long-term, drug-free remission. Meanwhile, the lifelong use of immunosuppressive drugs confers increased risk for malignancy and infections. As such, there is an unmet need for novel treatments that selectively target the pathogenic immune response in RA by inducing tolerance to autoantigens.

Cerebrovascular events are linked to ankylosing spondylitis. Accelerated atherosclerosis and endothelial dysfunction against a backdrop of inflammation have been widely blamed for the increased cerebrovascular risk in ankylosing spondylitis. The absence of a comprehensive review encouraged us to consider the link between ankylosing spondylitis and cerebrovascular diseases.

This study aimed to investigate the expression patterns of genes associated with inflammation and oxidative stress in ovarian and uterine tissues of dogs with pyometra, categorized by cervical status (open cervix or closed cervix), which influences disease severity. The control group comprised healthy animals undergoing elective ovariohysterectomy. Tissue inflammatory gene expression and Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were determined while microbial and histopathological examinations were conducted, along with immunohistochemical evaluations.

This research aims to assess the concentration of metals in human and canine placentas from the same geographic area and to investigate how these metal levels influence gene expression within the placenta. Placentas of 25 dogs and 60 women who had recently given birth residing in Ankara, Turkey were collected and subjected to metal analysis using ICP-OES. Placentas with detectable metal levels underwent further examination including Next Generation Sequencing, transcriptional analysis, single nucleotide polymorphism investigation, and extensive scrutiny across various groups.

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a chronic lymphoproliferative disorder characterized by monoclonal B cell proliferation. Studies carried out in recent years suggest that extracellular vesicles (EVs) may be a potential biomarker in cancer. Tyro3-Axl-Mertk (TAM) Receptor Tyrosine Kinases (RTKs) and Phosphatidylserine (PS) have crucial roles in macrophage-mediated immune response under normal conditions.

The placental cholinergic system; known as an important factor in intracellular metabolic activities, regulation of placental vascular tone, placental development, and neurotransmission; can be affected by persistent organic pesticides, particularly organochlorine pesticides(OCPs), which can influence various epigenetic regulations and molecular pathways. Although OCPs are legally prohibited, trace amounts of the persistent dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane(DDT) are still found in the environment, making prenatal exposure inevitable. In this study, the effects of 2,4'-DDT and 4,4'-DDT; and its breakdown product 4,4'-DDE in the environment on placental cholinergic system were evaluated with regards to cholinergic genes.
