Purpose: Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is one of common and vicious cancers of head and neck. The main purpose of this study was to examine the anticancer effects of the naturally occurring compound Ginsenoside (Rg1) against paclitaxel-resistant human nasopharyngeal cancer cells along with evaluation of its effects on cell autophagy, apoptosis, ROS production, cell cycle progression and m-TOR/PI3K/AKT signalling pathway.
Methods: The viability of SUNE1 cancer cell line and NP460 normal cell line was checked by CCK8 counting assay.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been proved to exert considerable therapeutic effects on ischemia-reperfusion (I/R)-induced injury, but the underlying mechanism remains unknown. In this study, we aimed to explore the potential molecular mechanism underlying the therapeutic effect of MSCs-derived exosome reinforced with miR-20a in reversing liver I/R injury. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, Western blot, and IHC were carried out to compare the differential expressions of miR-20a, Beclin-I, FAS, Caspase-3, mTOR and P62 in IR rats and normal rats.

Up-regulation of lncRNA POU3F3 has been observed in esophageal squamous cell carcinomas, while its expression pattern and functionality in other human disease is unknown. Our study showed that plasma levels of lncRNA POU3F3 and TGF-β1 (transforming growth factor-β) were both increased in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients than in healthy controls. Plasma levels of lncRNA POU3F3 were not affected by the diameter of primary tumors but increased in patients with tumor metastasis.

Herein, a tumor-targeted multifunctional theranostic agent was synthetized using a facile method, combining four clinically approved materials: artesunate (Arte), human serum albumin (HSA), folic acid (FA), and indocyanine green (ICG). The obtained nanocomposites (FA-IHA NPs) showed an excellent photo- and physiological stability. The ICG in the FA-IHA NPs was used not only for near infrared (NIR) fluorescence imaging, but also for photothermal and photodynamic (PTT-PDT) therapy under a single NIR irradiation.

Objective: This meta-analysis was performed to assess the difference in the serum level of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) between patients with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) and controls.
Methods: A systematic literature search was performed using PubMed, Elsevier, SCI, Wanfang, Weipu, and China National Knowledge Internet. Eligible studies that reported the serum AGE level in patients with OSAHS were identified by two reviewers.

The circular RNA ciRS-7 has been reported to be involved in the pathogenesis of various tumors, including gastric and colorectal cancer. However, the role of ciRS-7 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) remains unsolved. In this study, we found that the ciRS-7 expression was significantly upregulated in ESCC cancer tissues compared with matched normal tissues and associated with poor patient survival.

Supra-clavicular lymph node metastasis from ovarian cancer is rare. The present study reports the unique case of a 43-years-old patient who initially presented with left supra-clavicular lymph node metastasis, and was nulliparous. According to fine-needle aspiration cytology of the metastatic left supra-clavicular lymph nodes and 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) scan, the patient was diagnosed with poorly differentiated serous carcinoma of ovarian cancer, stage IV.

The overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) has been implicated in the development of various chronic and degenerative diseases such as cancer, respiratory, neurodegenerative, and digestive diseases. Under physiological conditions, the concentrations of ROS are subtlety regulated by antioxidants, which can be either generated endogenously or externally supplemented. A combination of antioxidant-deficiency and malnutrition may render individuals more vulnerable to oxidative stress, thereby increasing the risk of cancer occurrence.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to detect ferritin light chain (FTL) expression level in osteosarcoma (OS), and to clarify whether FTL could offer additional help in diagnosis or therapy.
Materials And Methods: First, we assessed FTL level in OS tissues and cells through GEO dataset and tissue microarrays (TMAs). Then, we overexpressed FTL expression in MG-63 cell line.

The present study aimed to investigate the antitumor efficacy of di-2-pyridylketone-4-cyclohexyl-4-methyl-3-thiosemicarbazone (DpC) and di-2-pyridylketone-4,4,-dimethyl-3-thiosemicarbazone (Dp44mT) on head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) cells. The proliferation and apoptosis of HNSCC cells treated with the iron chelators DpC and Dp44mT were detected. The mechanism of DpC-induced apoptosis on HNSCC cells was investigated.

The present study was aimed to investigate the effect of miR-107 transfection on gastric cancer cell growth. Results from qRT-PCR revealed that level of miR-107 in SGC-7901 and MKN1 cell lines was down-regulated in comparison to the normal cells, GES-1. CCK-8 assay revealed a significant reduction in the proliferation of SGC-7901 cells on transfection with miR-107.

This study was designed to investigate the protective effect and possible molecular mechanism of liquiritin on oxybuprocaine-induced apoptosis of human corneal endothelial cells (HCECs). In this study, the effect of oxybuprocaine on the proliferation of HCEC-12 was detected using cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8). The inductive effect of oxybuprocaine on HCEC-12 apoptosis and protective effect of liquiritin against oxybuprocaine-induced HCEC-12 apoptosis were tested by Annexin V/propidium iodide (PI) staining and flow cytometry.

Cytoplasmic polyadenylation element-binding protein-4 (CPEB4) is involved in several biological processes that are associated with cancer progression. However, it remains unknown whether CPEB4 expression levels are associated with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). The aim of the present study was to explore the potential function of CPEB4 in HNSCC.

This study investigated whether propofol protects against endotoxin-induced myocardial injury by inhibiting NF-κB-mediated inflammation. Thirty clean male SD rats were randomly divided into a control (n=10), a model (n=10) and a propofol group (n=10). The model and propofol groups were injected with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) via the caudal vein to establish animal models of myocardial injury.

The present study analyzed the association of tumor protein p53 (TP53) Pro72Arg polymorphism with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) in the Mongolian population of Tongliao (Inner Mongolia, China). Restriction fragment length polymorphism-polymerase chain reaction was used to detect the genotype distribution of TP53 Pro72Arg polymorphism in 100 patients with ESCC and 50 healthy controls from the same population. Besides, the correlation between ESCC in Mongolian patients and various factors such as age, sex, cigarette smoking and alcohol consumption was analyzed.

Increasing numbers of individuals, particularly the elderly, suffer from neurodegenerative disorders. These diseases are normally characterized by progressive loss of neuron cells and compromised motor or cognitive function. Previous studies have proposed that the overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) may have complex roles in promoting the disease development.

It is well known that regular exercise can benefit health by enhancing antioxidant defenses in the body. However, unaccustomed and/or exhaustive exercise can generate excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS), leading to oxidative stress-related tissue damages and impaired muscle contractility. ROS are produced in both aerobic and anaerobic exercise.
