Parkinson's disease (PD) is a prevalent neurodegenerative disorder caused by degeneration of dopaminergic neurons, originating from the substantia nigra pars compacta, and characterized by motor symptoms such as bradykinesia, muscle rigidity, resting tremor, and postural instability, as well as non-motor symptoms such as anxiety, depression, reduced sense of smell, cognitive impairment, and visual dysfunction. Emerging evidence highlights the retina as a promising site for non-invasive exploration of PD pathology, due to its shared embryonic origin with the central nervous system. In recent years, with the development of ophthalmic technology, the acquisition of retinal-related function and structure has gradually become mature.

The complex symbiotic relationship between inflammation, the gut microbiota, and the central nervous system (CNS) has become a pivotal focus of contemporary biomedical research. Inflammation, as a physiological defense mechanism, plays a dual role as both a protective and pathological factor, and is intricately associated with gut microbiota homeostasis, often termed the "second brain." The gutbrain axis (GBA) exemplifies this multifaceted interaction, where gut health exerts significantly regulatory effects on CNS functions.

Objectives: To compare the control effectiveness and periretinal defocus between orthokeratology (OK) and highly aspherical lenslets (HAL) in adolescents with myopia.
Methods: In this prospective study, 211 children (211 right eyes) were enrolled in Beijing Ming Vision and Ophthalmology between October 2022 and February 2023. Based on the myopia correction method, participants were divided into three groups: OK, HAL, and single-vision spectacles (SVS).

Myopia is an increasingly serious health issue among children and adolescents worldwide. This study investigated the situation related to myopia among students in Chengdu, a city in western China, and analyzed the prevalence of myopia spectacle wear and myopia full-correction and their influencing factors to understand the current status of myopia prevention. This school-based cross-sectional study investigated 1582 schools in seven districts of Chengdu City, China, enrolling a total of 417,337 students aged 6-18 years (elementary, middle, and high school) from 2020 to 2022.

Ubiquitin-specific proteases (USPs) have been proved to play important roles in the progression of diabetic retinopathy. In this study, we explored the role of USP5 and its possible mechanisms in diabetic retinopathy development. Cell proliferation, apoptosis, inflammation and oxidative stress were determined using CCK-8 assay, EdU staining assay, flow cytometry, and ELISA, respectively.

Glaucoma is a common and complex neurodegenerative disease characterized by progressive loss of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) and axons. Currently, there is no effective method to address the cause of RGCs degeneration. However, studies on neuroprotective strategies for optic neuropathy have increased in recent years.

Nasolacrimal duct obstruction due to infection, inflammation, or excessive fibroblast proliferation may result in persistent tearing, intraocular inflammation, or even blindness. In this study, surface engineering techniques are applied to nasolacrimal duct stents for the first time. Based on the functioning of marine mussels, "one-pot" and "stepwise" methods were employed to construct a novel multifunctional superhydrophilic PDA/RAP coating using dopamine and rapamycin.

Objectives: To evaluate the effect of peripheral defocus soft contact lenses (PDSCLs) on controlling myopia progression in children and adolescents, and to compare it with orthokeratology (Ortho-K) and single vision lenses (SVLs).
Methods: We conducted a systematic search of PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Medline, CNKI, CBM, VIP, and WanFang Data databases for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and cohort studies that investigated the effects of PDSCLs on myopia control in children and adolescents. The published languages were limited to English and Chinese.

Scope: Age-related increases in retinal iron are involved in the development of retinal degeneration. The recently discovered iron-dependent mechanism of cell death known as ferroptosis has been linked to a wide range of pathologies. However, its role in iron overload-induced retinal degeneration is still uncertain.

Background: Both the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and iron overload are significant variables that enhance the incidence of photoreceptor cell death and retinal degeneration. The discovery of ferroptosis, which is characterized by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation, has led to a new perspective on how retinal degeneration develops. As a natural phenolic acid, salvianic acid A (SAA) from Salvia miltiorrhiza has promise in treating eye diseases.

In recent years, 2 major discoveries have modified the traditional understanding of the brain. First, meningeal lymphatic vessels (MLV) were found in the dural sinus, which may absorb and drain cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Second, the glymphatic system was discovered, composed of para-arterial CSF influx channel, paravenous interstitial fluid (ISF) efflux channel, and the water channel aquaporin-4 (AQP4) in astrocytes connecting the 2 channels.

Lymphoma is a serious malignant tumor that contains more than 70 different types and seriously endangers the body's lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is the regulatory center of the immune system and is important in the immune response to foreign antigens and tumors. Studies showed that multiple genetic variants are associated with lymphoma but determining the pathogenic mechanisms remains a challenge.
