The aim of this study is to describe a modified technique for internal refixation of dislocated scleral-sutured polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) intraocular lenses (IOLs) with eyelets. Three-port pars plana vitrectomy was performed. Through the scleral fixation site, a 30-gauge needle loaded with an 8-0 polypropylene suture was inserted into the vitreous cavity.

Glaucoma is characterized by pathological elevation of intraocular pressure (IOP) due to dysfunctional trabecular meshwork (TM), which is the primary cause of irreversible vision loss. There are currently no effective treatment strategies for glaucoma. Mitochondrial function plays a crucial role in regulating IOP within the TM.

Background: Cataract contributes to visual impairment worldwide, and diabetes mellitus accelerates the formation and progression of cataract. Here we found that the expression level of miR-204-5p was diminished in the lens epithelium with anterior lens capsule of cataract patients compared to normal donors, and decreased more obviously in those of diabetic cataract (DC) patients. However, the contribution and mechanism of miR-204-5p during DC development remain elusive.

Purpose: This study aims to reveal the immunopathogenesis of the high-risk corneal transplantation using a comparative proteomic approach.
Methods: The immunological properties of ocular tissues (including corneal grafts, aqueous humour, and iris-ciliary body) were analysed using a high-risk rabbit corneal transplantation model employing a comparative proteomic approach.
Results: The corneal grafts revealed a dramatic increase in the immune response both at the early (postoperative day 7) and rejection stages, along with the appearance of transplantation stress-induced cellular senescence in the early stage.

Purpose: Fungal keratitis (FK) is an invasive corneal infection associated with significant risk to vision. Although the cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS)/stimulator of interferon genes (STING) signaling pathway has been recognized for its role in defending against viral infections, its involvement in FK still remains largely unclear. This study sought to elucidate the contribution of the cGAS/STING signaling pathway to the pathogenesis of FK.

Purpose: To compare axial growth in pediatric cataract patients who underwent multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) implantation without anterior vitrectomy (AV) with that in pediatric patients who underwent monofocal IOL implantation with or without AV.
Methods: Patients who had unilateral pediatric cataracts and underwent surgery at 3-6 years of age from June 6, 2019, to June 30, 2020, at our institution were prospectively analyzed. The patients were categorized into Group A: multifocal IOL implantation with optic capture in Berger's space without AV; Group B: monofocal IOL implantation with optic capture in Berger's space without AV; and Group C: bag-in-the-lens monofocal IOL implantation with AV.

The increasing incidence of myopia has become a global public health concern. Exploring the mechanisms underlying the onset and progression of myopia is crucial for prevention and control. This paper reviews the role of peripheral retinal defocus mechanisms in the development of myopia, with particular emphasis on the interaction between accommodation lag and peripheral retinal defocus, as well as the impact of optical intervention on myopia control effectiveness.

In the 21st century, cancer remains a serious threat to people's health and has become a prominent public health problem. NFKBIA is involved in the pathological process of many diseases including cancer, but its specific role in pan-cancer has not yet been fully elucidated. This study aims to deepen the understanding of cancer pathology by analyzing the potential functions of NFKBIA in pan-cancer.

The cornea and sclera are distinct adjacent tissues, yet their stromal cells originate from common neural crest cells (NCCs). Sclerocornea is a disease characterized by an indistinguishable boundary between the cornea and sclera. Previously, we identified a mutation in a sclerocornea pedigree.

Purpose: To evaluate VEGF-C-induced lymphoproliferation in conjunction with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) antimetabolite treatment in a rabbit glaucoma filtration surgery (GFS) model.
Methods: Thirty-two rabbits underwent GFS and were assigned to four groups (n = 8 each) defined by subconjunctival drug treatment: (a) VEGF-C combined with 5-FU, (b) 5-FU, (c) VEGF-C, (d) and control. Bleb survival, bleb measurements, and IOP were evaluated over 30 days.

Corneal dystrophies may develop gradually from early onset in childhood and persist for years to decades. Visual impairment or repeated ocular irritations caused by corneal dystrophies severely affect the quality of life. Although various surgical treatment options are indicated for adult patients, the treatment plan for pediatric patients remains unclear.

Purpose: In the present study, we aim to elucidate the underlying molecular mechanism of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress induced delayed corneal epithelial wound healing and nerve regeneration.
Methods: Human limbal epithelial cells (HLECs) were treated with thapsigargin to induce excessive ER stress and then RNA sequencing was performed. Immunofluorescence, qPCR, Western blot, and ELISA were used to detect the expression changes of SLIT3 and its receptors ROBO1-4.

Purpose: Visual impairment and blindness caused by cataracts are major public health problems. Several factors are associated with an increased risk of age-related cataracts, such as age, smoking, alcohol consumption, and ultraviolet radiation. This meta-analysis aimed to assess the association between body mass index and age-related cataracts.

The activation of innate immunity following transplantation has been identified as a crucial factor in allograft inflammation and rejection. However, the role of cyclic guanosine monophosphate-adenosine monophosphate synthase (cGAS)/stimulator of interferon genes (STING) signaling-mediated innate immunity in the pathogenesis of allograft rejection remains unclear. Utilizing a well-established murine model of corneal transplantation, we demonstrated increased expression of cGAS and STING in rejected-corneal allografts compared with syngeneic (Syn) and normal (Nor) corneas, along with significant activation of the cGAS/STING pathway, as evidenced by the enhanced phosphorylation of TANK-binding kinase 1and interferon regulatory factor 3.

In order to decelerate the growth of myopia in children and adolescents and reduce the risks of associated eye complications, extensive research has been conducted on preventive measures, including optical, behavioral, and pharmaceutical interventions. Spectacle lenses, due to their safety, convenience, and high patient compliance, stand out as the most common method for correcting refractive errors compared to other interventions. As far as we know, various forms of spectacle lenses are currently used in clinical practice, including bifocal lenses, progressive multifocal lenses, peripheral defocus lenses, defocus incorporated multiple segments (DIMS) lenses, highly aspherical lenslets, diffusion optics technology lenses, and violet light transmission (VL) glasses.

Corneal transplantation represents the primary therapeutic approach for managing corneal endothelial dysfunction, but corneal donors remain scarce. Anterior chamber cell injection emerges as a highly promising alternative strategy for corneal transplantation, with pluripotent stem cells (PSC) demonstrating considerable potential as an optimal cell source. Nevertheless, only a few studies have explored the differentiation of functional corneal endothelial-like cells originating from PSC.

Background: Dry eye disease has a high prevalence and exerts a significant negative effect on quality of life. In China, there are currently no available nasal sprays to promote natural tear production in patients with dry eye disease. We therefore evaluated the efficacy and safety of OC-01 (varenicline solution) nasal spray versus vehicle in Chinese patients with dry eye disease.
