Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a multifaceted neurodegenerative disease. The optic nerve, as a window into the central nervous system (CNS), is known to be an important part of the CNS and can be detected non-invasively. With the widespread availability of optical coherence tomography (OCT) devices, an increasing number of studies have paid attention to the neuropathological disorders in the retina of PD patients in recent years.

Mitochondrial Dynamics and Mitophagy in Cardiometabolic Disease.

Front Cardiovasc Med

June 2022

Guang'anmen Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Beijing, China.

Mitochondria play a key role in cellular metabolism. Mitochondrial dynamics (fusion and fission) and mitophagy, are critical to mitochondrial function. Fusion allows organelles to share metabolites, proteins, and mitochondrial DNA, promoting complementarity between damaged mitochondria.

Background: Myocardial ischemia (MI) is a major public health problem with high mortality and morbidity worldwide. Huoxue Wentong formula (HX), a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula, exhibits unambiguous effects on treating MI and preventing cardiovascular diseases. However, the molecular mechanism of the therapeutic effects of HX on MI remains largely unknown.

Formulation of pH-responsive PEGylated nanoparticles with high drug loading capacity and programmable drug release for enhanced antibacterial activity.

Bioact Mater

October 2022

In the current global crisis of antibiotic resistance, delivery systems are emerging to combat resistant bacteria in a more efficient manner. Despite the significant advances of antibiotic nanocarriers, many challenges like poor biocompatibility, premature drug release, suboptimal targeting to infection sites and short blood circulation time are still challenging. To achieve targeted drug delivery and enhance antibacterial activity, here we reported a kind of pH-responsive nanoparticles by simply self-assembly of an amphiphilic poly(ethylene glycol)-Schiff-vancomycin (PEG-Schiff-Van) prodrug and free Van in one drug delivery system.

Interaction Between Chinese Medicine and Warfarin: Clinical and Research Update.

Front Pharmacol

September 2021

Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine, School of Medicine, Xiamen University, Xiamen, China.

Warfarin is a commonly used oral anticoagulant. It has a narrow therapeutic window and wide variation in individualized dosing, and is used clinically for the treatment of thromboembolic diseases. Due to the widespread use of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in China and the complex composition and diverse mechanisms of action of TCM, the combination of TCM and warfarin in patients has led to fluctuations in the international normalized ratio of warfarin or bleeding.
