Introduction: Post-market monitoring has shown a potential link between the use of leukotriene-modifying agents (LTRAs) and an increased risk of neuropsychiatric events, such as depression. However, observational studies have produced inconsistent findings, offering no definitive conclusions.

Objective: To assess the potential correlation between LTRAs exposure and depression in US adults.

What Is Known And Objective: Adverse drug reaction (ADR) reporting is generally of poor quality, which may delay post-marketing regulatory actions. Here, we evaluated the quality of ADR reporting at our institution and examined the roles of clinical pharmacists in this process.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed ADR reports at our hospital between 2017 and 2019 to assess the number, source, drugs, and routes of administration.

Saxitoxin, which is one of the most typical paralytic shellfish poisoning toxins, ranks the highest intoxication rate of marine biological poisoning cases globally. Efficient clean-up and extraction of saxitoxin from complex biological matrices are imperative for the analysis and concentration monitoring of the toxin when correlative poisoning cases happen. Herein, l-cysteine-modified magnetic microspheres based on metal-organic coordination were synthesized by a facile approach and applied for magnetic solid-phase extraction of saxitoxin from rat plasma samples before liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry detection.

Background: To investigate the relationship between the foveal outer nuclear layer (ONL) thickness in the active and resolved phases of central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC), and its possible association with optical coherence tomography (OCT) parameters.

Methods: The medical records of CSC patients treated with half-dose photodynamic therapy (PDT) between August 2011 and October 2017 were reviewed. The difference between the foveal ONL thickness at 12 m after half-dose PDT and that before half-dose PDT was analyzed, and its association with OCT parameters was assessed using generalized linear models.

Purpose: To clarify the correlations between changes in the photoreceptor layer (PRL) and other clinical characteristics during central serous chorioretinopathy.

Methods: Patients with central serous chorioretinopathy with one eye affected were enrolled. Photoreceptor layer appearance within the detached area was evaluated, and its correlations with symptom duration, best-corrected visual acuity, and the difference in the foveal outer nuclear layer thickness between the affected and contralateral eyes were analyzed.

Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Huadong Hospital, Shanghai 200040, China.

Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic value of portable monitor device (PMD) in potential obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) patients.

Methods: All patients met the inclusion criteria were asked to finish the questionniar and underwent anthropometric measurements, and then completed polysomnography (PSG) test and PMD test simultaneously. The correlation between AHI-PMD and AHI-PSG, between MinSaO2-PMD and MinSaO2-PSG were analyzed by Spearman analysis.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation between clinical behavior and expression of human papillomavirus (HPV) in patients with juvenile laryngeal papillomatosis, in an attempt to develop an effective molecular biological method to predict prognosis. We included 37 patients with juvenile laryngeal papillomatosis in the study group and 10 cases each of juvenile vocal cord polyps and juvenile normal laryngeal mucosa as the control group. We detected HPV by immunocytochemistry and in situ hybridization, identified the virus type, and measured HPV-DNA content using a computer-assisted, color pathological image-analysis system.

To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to successfully apply a novel, highly selective enrichment technique based on boronic acid-functionalized core-shell magnetic microspheres (BA-Fe3O4@SiO2-Au@mSiO2) with a large surface area and uniform pore size, to determine the baicalin concentration in rat plasma by HPLC. By taking advantage of the special interaction between boronic acid and baicalin under alkaline conditions, as well as the microspheres' size exclusion ability, baicalin was selectively extracted from protein-rich biosamples, such as plasma, without any other pretreatment procedure except for a 10-min vortexing step. BA-Fe3O4@SiO2-Au@mSiO2 microsphere-adsorbed baicalin was straightforwardly and rapidly isolated from the matrix using a magnet.

We identified the UBE2L6 gene, encoding the ISG15-conjugating enzyme UbcH8, as one gene significantly downregulated by promoter hypermethylation in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Reduced expression of the UbcH8 protein correlated with poor outcome in NPC patients. Restored expression of UBE2L6 suppressed proliferation and colony formation in NPC cells, while inducing apoptosis.

As infection with Streptococcus pneumoniae (mainly via the mucosal route) is a leading cause of acute otitis media, sinus and bacterial pneumonia, the mucosal immunity plays an important role in the prevention of pneumococcal diseases. Therefore, intranasal vaccination may be an effective immunization strategy, but requires appropriate mucosal vaccine delivery systems. In this work, chitosan was used as a mucosal delivery system to form chitosan-PsaA nanoparticles based on ionotropic gelation methods and used to immunize BALB/c mice intranasally.

Reirradiation of patients who were previously treated with radiotherapy is vastly challenging. Pulsed low-dose rate (PLDR) external beam radiotherapy has the potential to reduce normal tissue toxicities while providing significant tumor control for recurrent cancers. This work investigates treatment planning techniques for intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT)-based PLDR treatment of various sites, including cases with pancreatic and prostate cancer.
