Lacrimal Sac CLL: A Review of Clinical Features, Investigations, and Management.

Purpose: This study reviews all reported cases of lacrimal gland chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) to identify patterns in clinical presentation, diagnosis, and management to aid in early recognition and treatment of this uncommon occurrence.

Methods: A comprehensive search of medical literature databases was performed to identify studies reporting lacrimal sac involvement in CLL from 1970 to 2024. Data were extracted regarding demographics, symptoms, diagnostic methods, treatment, and outcomes.

Multicentric Mucinous Adenocarcinoma of Bilateral Eyelids.

A 59-year-old female patient presented with a purple, fluid-filled lesion on her left upper eyelid that contained a solid component. Excisional biopsy revealed a diagnosis of mucinous adenocarcinoma. Extensive oncological workup was negative for a distant primary tumor or metastasis and confirmed a diagnosis of primary mucinous adenocarcinoma.

Photochromic Metal-organic Frameworks Based on Host-guest Strategy and Different Viologen Derivatives for Organic Amines Sensing and Information Anticounterfeiting.

The encapsulation of viologen derivatives in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) to construct host-guest materials has been widely discussed owing to their distinctive spatial arrangement and physical/chemical properties. Herein, three new photochromic MOFs (NWM-1-3) have been successfully synthesized by 1,1,2,2-Tetra(4-carboxylphenyl)ethylene (H4TCPE) ligand as well as three different viologen derivatives based on host-guest strategy. Remarkably, NWM-1-3 exhibit a notable reversible photochromism change from yellow to green under 365 nm UV irradiation.

ZnFe Layered Double Hydroxide Nanosheets Loaded with Cu Single-Atom Nanozymes with Multi-Enzyme-Like Catalytic Activities as an Effective Treatment for Bacterial Keratitis.

Bacterial keratitis (BK) is a type of corneal inflammation resulting from bacterial infection in the eye. Although nanozymes have been explored as promising materials in corneal wound healing, currently available nanozymes lack sufficient catalytic activity and the ability to penetrate bacterial biofilms, limiting their efficacy against the treatment of BK. To remedy this, ZnFe layered double hydroxide (ZnFe-LDH) nanosheets are loaded with Cu single-atom nanozymes (Cu-SAzymes) and aminated dextran (Dex-NH), resulting in the formation of the nanozyme DT-ZnFe-LDH@Cu, which possesses peroxidase (POD)-, oxidase (OXD)-, and catalase (CAT)-like catalytic activities.

Superior Regional Control and Laryngeal Function Preservation With Radiotherapy Versus Partial Laryngectomy: A Propensity Score-Matched Analysis of 562 Early Glottic Cancer Patients.

Objectives: We aimed to compare the outcomes of patients with T1-T2N0M0 glottic squamous cell carcinoma who underwent either partial laryngectomy (PL) or radiotherapy (RT).

Methods: A retrospective analysis of 562 patients treated with RT (n = 151) or PL (n = 411) was conducted. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to estimate outcomes.

Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy type 1 combined with becker muscular dystrophy: a family case report.

Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy type 1 (FSHD1) and Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD) are distinct disorders caused by different genetic variations and exhibiting different inheritance patterns. The co-occurrence of both conditions within the same family is rare. In this case report, the proband was a 10 year-old boy who presented with eye and mouth orbicular muscles, shoulder and proximal upper and lower limbs weakness.

Unilateral Corneal Ectasia After Bilateral Transepithelial Photorefractive Keratectomy.

We present the case of a 23-year-old male who experienced vision loss in his left eye 15 months after undergoing bilateral transepithelial photorefractive keratectomy (T-PRK). Despite the absence of any significant preoperative topographical risk factors in either eye, corneal ectasia was later confirmed in the left eye, while the right eye remained normal. Subtle asymmetry in topometric indices and a borderline high Index of vertical asymmetry (IVA) reading suggested the possibility of early subclinical keratoconus, potentially increasing the risk of post-refractive ectasia.

Atypical Presentation of Optic Neuritis in Multiple Sclerosis.

Objective: Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a progressive liver disease with lipid accumulation, inflammation, and liver fibrosis. Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation as rescue therapy for refractory autoimmune retinopathy: a case report.

Autoimmune retinopathy (AIR) is a rare, potentially blinding retinal disease that remains a challenging condition to manage when resistant to conventional immune-modulatory approaches. We report clinical and electrophysiological improvement in a 49-year-old patient who underwent an autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplant (aHSCT) for thymoma-associated AIR after experiencing progressive disease despite receiving periocular and systemic steroids, mycophenolate mofetil, baricitinib, tacrolimus, bortezomib, rituximab, plasmapheresis, and intravenous immunoglobulin. The aHSCT had two stages: (i) peripheral blood stem cell harvest following mobilization with cyclophosphamide and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor, and (ii) conditioning regimen with plasmapheresis, rituximab, cyclophosphamide, and anti-thymocyte globulin high-dose therapy, followed by autologous hematopoietic cell infusion of 5.

Risk of Infective Endocarditis Following Invasive Dental Procedures: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Objectives: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to synthesize evidence and determine the association between IE and dental procedures, including invasive and non-invasive procedures.

Methods: We conducted a systematic search of PubMed, Google Scholar, and Cochrane databases for studies involving procedures such as tooth extraction, scaling, endodontic treatment, oral surgery, and periodontal treatment involving individuals aged ≥15 years. Preliminary evaluation of the FastCAP for users of the Nurotron cochlear implant.

Background: Electrically evoked compound action potential (ECAP) can be used to measure the auditory nerve's response to electrical stimulation in cochlear implant (CI) users. In the Nurotron CI system, extracting the ECAP waveform from the stimulus artifact is time-consuming.

Introduction: Ocular pain is a common complaint to eye care providers, associated with a variety of ocular conditions, among which dry eye disease (DED) is affecting millions of people worldwide. Despite being highly prevalent, ocular pain is not managed adequately in the clinic.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the analgesic potential of neurokinin-1 receptor (NK1R) antagonism in DED.

Femtosecond laser-assisted large-diameter lamellar corneal-limbal keratoplasty in ocular chemical burns.

Purpose: This study highlights the feasibility of femtosecond laser-assisted large-diameter lamellar corneal-limbal keratoplasty and its efficacy in the treatment of ocular surface failure caused by bilateral ocular chemical injury.

Observations: The series included 3 patients with ocular surface failure caused by bilateral ocular chemical burns. After dissection of the host cornea, a femtosecond laser-assisted large-diameter lamellar corneoscleral button, with varying thickness of 250-400 μm, was sutured to the recipient bed.

Persistent bilateral sclerouveitis following bimatoprost implantation and removal.

Purpose: To report a case of persistent bilateral sclerouveitis following bilateral bimatoprost implantation (Durysta) that required implant removal and oral steroid course.

Observation: A 75-year-old Caucasian male with no prior ocular inflammation experienced bilateral sclerouveitis post bilateral bimatoprost implantation. Despite implant removal from both eyes, the ocular inflammation persisted, showing cystoid macular edema in both eyes and exudative retinal detachment in the right.

Travoprost Intracameral Implant in Eyes with Glaucoma or Ocular Hypertension: Early Short-Term Real-World Outcomes.

Purpose: To assess real-world efficacy and safety of standalone travoprost intracameral implant (iDose TR) implantation by a US glaucoma surgeon in patients with open-angle glaucoma (OAG) or ocular hypertension (OHT).

Since detrimental immune response is crucially responsible for the development and aggravation of DED, therapeutic agents which modulate phenotype and function of eye-infiltrated inflammatory immune cells could be used for the treatment of severe DED. Due to their potent immunomodulatory properties, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) represent potentially new remedies for the treatment of inflammatory eye diseases.
