Cadmium (Cd) is a highly toxic metal in human body, and therefore understanding the immunotoxicity of Cd is significant for public health. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) in regulating the immunotoxicity of Cd. Hydrogels present significant potential in flexible materials designed for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding, attributed to their soft, stretchable mechanical properties and water-rich porous structures. Unfortunately, EMI shielding hydrogels commonly suffer from low mechanical properties, deficient fracture energy, and low strength, which limit the serviceability of these materials in complex mechanical environments. HCl-catalyzed -glycosylation was described herein for the convenient preparation of -heteroaryl -glycosides and polyhydroxylated alkanes with diaryl groups using hetereoaryl amines and unprotected sugars as starting materials. The reaction temperature and the amounts of aryl amines and HCl had significant effects on reactions. The method provided a highly efficient and environmentally friendly route for constructing -glycosides at low cost.

Chronic sleep deprivation disturbs energy balance modulated by suprachiasmatic nucleus efferents in mice.

Background: Epidemiologic researches show that short sleep duration may affect feeding behaviors resulting in higher energy intake and increased risk of obesity, but the further mechanisms that can interpret the causality remain unclear. The circadian rhythm is fine-tuned by the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) as the master clock, which is essential for driving rhythms in food intake and energy metabolism through neuronal projections to the arcuate nucleus (ARC) and paraventricular nucleus (PVN).

Results: We showed that chronic SD-induced aberrant expressions of AgRP/NPY and POMC attributed to compromised JAK/STAT3 signals and reduced energy expenditure in the mice, which can be rescued with AAV-genetic overexpression of BMAL1 into SCN.

The parabrachial nucleus (PBN) is responsible for integrating both internal and external sensory information and controlling/regulating a wide range of physiological processes, such as feeding, thermogenesis, nociceptive and pruritic sensations, and respiration. Recently, the PBN has been found to be involved in mediating wakefulness maintenance, sleep-wake transition, exogenous neuromodulation of awakening, and arousal-promoting process triggered by drastic changes in the internal environments, such as hypercapnia, hypoxia, and hypertension. Multiple neural pathways and subpopulations of neurons are responsible for arousal-promoting effects of the PBN.

Countercurrent chromatography (CCC) is an efficient technique for purifying bioactive natural compounds, but selecting the solvent system can be a time-consuming and crucial process for successful separation. This paper discussed the HPLC-assisted mathematical prediction method for the n-hexane/alcohol solvents/water (HAWat) and ethyl acetate/n-butanol/water (EBuWat) systems and designed an intelligent online selection system to simplify the separation process. Synergistic Co-Cu Dual-Atom Nanozyme with Promoted Catalase-like Activity for Parkinson's Disease Treatment.

Neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's disease (PD) are intimately associated with oxidative stress due to the excessive highly reactive oxygen species (ROS), leading to the damage of dopaminergic neurons. Herein, we develop a Co-Cu dual-atom nanozyme (CoCu-DAzyme) by uniformly anchoring Co and Cu active sites onto an AlO(OH) substrate that exhibits remarkable catalase-like catalytic activity, far exceeding that of the Co or Cu single-atom counterparts. The following density functional theory calculations reveal that the Co sites efficiently enable HO adsorption, while Cu sites promote charge transfer, synergistically promoting the catalytic decomposition of HO into HO and O.

An efficient and convenient strategy has been successfully developed for the preparation of novel hydroxylated alkaloid derivatives (also called fused multicyclic iminosugars) from -toluenesulfonylated sugars through a Pictet-Spengler-type mechanism. This method is highly stereoselective, does not require metal catalysts, and capable of conducting gram level reactions (with a 53% yield). Some of such iminosugars had an intermediate antiproliferative effect on HCT116 tumor cells.
