Background And Objective: Advances in antiretroviral therapy led to an increase in life expectancy among people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). As aging is characterized by several physiological changes that can influence pharmacokinetics (PK), this systematic review aims to describe the impact of aging on the PK of antiretrovirals (ARV) approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) before 2005.
Methods: Searches were performed in BVS, EMBASE, and PubMed databases for publications until June 2024.

A diet based on ultra-processed food (UPF) does not meet nutritional needs, especially during pregnancy. The aim of this study is to assess the change in UPF consumption from preconception to pregnancy and associated factors. Our hypothesis is that women tend to adopt a healthier eating pattern during pregnancy, decreasing the intake of UPF and increasing the intake of unprocessed/minimally processed foods.

We aimed to assess the impact of PrEP on FHT pharmacokinetics (PK) among TGW from Brazil.
Methods: We performed a drug-drug interaction sub-study among TGW enrolled in a daily oral PrEP demonstration study (PrEParadas, NCT03220152).

Purpose Of Review: Brucellosis is one of the most common zoonosis worldwide, affecting 500 000 people, annually. Neurobrucellosis incidence is approximately 4%, and it is almost always heterogeneous. As there are no typical clinical features, its diagnosis is frequently misdiagnosing by other infections.

Objectives: Potential interactions between feminizing hormone therapy (FHT) and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) may be a barrier to PrEP use among transgender women (TGW). We aimed to assess the impact of FHT on PrEP plasma pharmacokinetics (PK) among TGW.
Methods: This was a PK substudy of the effects of FHT on tenofovir disoproxil fumarate/emtricitabine nested to a trans-specific PrEP demonstration study (NCT03220152).

Simultaneous infection by human immunodeficiency viruses (HIV) and human T-lymphotropic viruses (HTLV) are not uncommon since they have similar means of transmission and are simultaneously endemic in many populations. Besides causing severe immune dysfunction, these viruses are neuropathogenic and can cause neurological diseases through direct and indirect mechanisms. Many pieces of evidence at present show that coinfection may alter the natural history of general and, more specifically, neurological disorders through different mechanisms.

The human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1) infects 5-10 million people worldwide and causes fatal and disabling diseases in a significant proportion of them. A chronic myelitis named HTLV-1 associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis (HAM/TSP) is the typical neurological manifestation of HTLV-1. However, other neurological syndromes can be either associated with HAM/TSP or occur in isolation in the HTLV-1 infected individual.

Objectives: To assess the prevalence of protective antibody titers to polioviruses in adults candidates for solid organ transplant (SOT), and to assess the immunogenic response to inactivated polio vaccine in this population.
Methods: The study included SOT candidates referred to Immunization Reference Centre of Evandro Chagas National Institute of Infectious Diseases from March 2013 to January 2016. It was conducted in 2 phases.

Background: Sexually transmitted diseases (STD) are frequently asymptomatic and increase the likelihood of transmitting and acquiring HIV. In Brazil, the guidelines for STDs diagnosis and treatment are based on the syndromic approach. Nucleic acid amplification tests (NAAT) has been recommended as routine STDs screening in some countries, especially for men who have sex with men (MSM).
