Background: Local recurrence of rectal cancer (LRRC) previously treated with radiotherapy is associated with a poor prognosis. Historically, the integration of radiotherapy (RT) with surgery has improved the likelihood of complete resections (R0) and, consequently, enhanced survival. Unfortunately, many LRRC cases are not amenable to surgical intervention.

Kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene homolog (KRAS) somatic mutations occur in 30% to 40% of patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). These were thought to equally affect prognosis and resistance to anti-epidermal growth factor receptor agents; however, recent data show the activity of KRAS-G12C and pan-RAS inhibitors. The effects of uncommon KRAS (uKRAS) variants are largely unexplored.

In preclinical experiments, cyclic fasting-mimicking diets (FMDs) showed broad anticancer effects in combination with chemotherapy. Among different tumor types, triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is exquisitely sensitive to FMD. However, the antitumor activity and efficacy of cyclic FMD in TNBC patients remain unclear.

The clinical presentation of T-cell large granular lymphocytic leukemia (T-LGLL) is extremely variable: 30% of patients have neutropenia with no associated symptoms, others present with bacterial infections and sepsis may occur. Tools to predict patient outcome are lacking. Stemming from preliminary results obtained by single cell-RNAseq we investigated by qPCR HSP and IFIT gene families in 27 LGLL patients (23T-LGLL and 4 NK-LGLL), including 11 with neutropenia and/or thrombocytopenia and 16 asymptomatic for the disease.

Introduction: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a common urological disease that is strongly associated with the aging process and can lead to lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). LUTS due to BPH can significantly affect the quality of life of many patients. Among the treatments available for BPH to improve symptoms and functional outcomes, drug therapy and surgical therapy are the options of choice.

Purpose: To investigate the awareness and the spread of ChatGPT and its possible role in both scientific research and clinical practice among the young radiation oncologists (RO).
Material And Methods: An anonymous, online survey via Google Forms (including 24 questions) was distributed among young (< 40 years old) ROs in Italy through the yAIRO network, from March 15, 2024, to 31, 2024. These ROs were officially registered with yAIRO in 2023.

Background: Diabetic Mastopathy (DMP) is an uncommon benign fibro-inflammatory condition that occurs in women with long-standing diabetes mellitus (DM), particularly type 1. It often mimics breast cancer (BC) in clinical and imaging presentations, leading to diagnostic challenges.
Methods: A retrospective monocentric study was conducted, analyzing clinical, radiologic, and pathological data from 28 women diagnosed with DMP over 10 years at the European Institute of Oncology.

Purpose: Caregiving is a crucial but frequently overlooked part of cancer care, as well as the main emotions experienced by caregivers during that journey. This qualitative study aimed to explore the emotional landscape of informal caregivers in supporting breast cancer survivors (BCs) living with chronic pain (CP).
Methods: We conducted 3 focus groups with informal caregivers of BCs with CP.

Purpose: Personalizing care and outcome evaluation are important aims in the field of NEN and nomograms may represent useful tools for clinicians. Of note, gender difference is being progressively more considered in NEN care, as it may also impact on survival. This systematic review aims to describe and analyze the available nomograms on pancreatic NENs (PanNENs) to identify if gender differences are evaluated and if they could impact on patients' management and prognosis.

Objectives: It is not known whether cancer-specific mortality (CSM) differences distinguish radical cystectomy (RC) from trimodal therapy (TMT) in octogenarians harbouring organ-confined (T2N0M0) urothelial cancer of the urinary bladder (UCUB).
Methods: Within the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database (2004-2021), CSM and other-cause mortality (OCM) rates were computed in octogenarian patients with organ-confined UCUB undergoing either TMT or RC. Smoothed cumulative incidence plots depicted 5-year CSM and OCM rates according to RC vs TMT.

Purpose: Temporal trends in and predictors of inpatient palliative care use in patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) undergoing critical care therapy are unknown.
Methods: Relying on the National Inpatient Sample (2008-2019), we identified mRCC patients undergoing critical care therapy, namely invasive mechanical ventilation, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube insertion, dialysis for acute kidney failure, total parenteral nutrition, or tracheostomy. Estimated annual percentage changes (EAPC) analyses and multivariable logistic regression models addressed inpatient palliative care use.

Purpose: Transoral laser microsurgery is the mainstay in treating early-stage laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma. However, consensus is lacking in non-radical surgery for infiltrating cancer, and even doubts are cast for patients with laryngeal dysplasia at the resection margins. In this study we aim to assess the prognostic significance of laryngeal dysplasia at the surgical margins in patients radically treated for infiltrating cancer.

Background: About 15-20 % of patients with metastatic breast cancer (mBC) can experience oligoprogressive disease (OPD) in ≤ 5 sites of disease. Patients with OPD may benefit from metastasis-directed stereotactic radiotherapy (SBRT) to all sites of cancer progression while maintaining the same systemic treatment, aiming to prolong the time to next systemic treatment (NEST). This study aims to assess the outcomes provided by this multimodal strategy.

Objective: A per-patient cost of therapy administration model was developed to estimate the cost of mosunetuzumab vs. tisagenlecleucel in patients with relapsing or refractory follicular lymphoma (R/R FL) receiving two or more lines of systemic therapy (3L+) from both the Italian hospital and societal perspectives.
Methods: A per-patient total cost of therapy administration model was developed to compare the resource consumption of two treatments - mosunetuzumab and tisagenlecleucel.

Understanding the role of NSD proteins in virus-induced cancers could reveal new therapeutic strategies. Targeting NSD proteins may not only disrupt the epigenetic changes triggered by viruses but also help restore normal cellular function. For instance, developing NSD inhibitors could counteract abnormal histone modifications caused by viral infections and slow cancer progression.
