Background: This study investigated the early safety and mid-term outcomes of stepwise implementation of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) in Vietnamese patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS) at a single center, following the process of technical transfer.
Methods: From 2017 to 2022, 90 patients with symptomatic severe AS underwent TAVI at a tertiary hospital in Vietnam. The first 30 cases received support for technology transfer from international proctors.

Background: Pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs) have the potential to prevent pneumococcal disease through direct and indirect protection. This multicentre European study estimated the indirect effects of 5-year childhood PCV10 and/or PCV13 programmes on invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) in older adults across 13 sites in 10 European countries, to support decision-making on pneumococcal vaccination policies.
Methods: For each site we calculated IPD incidence rate ratios (IRR) in people aged ≥65 years by serotype for each PCV10/13 year (2011-2015) compared with 2009 (pre-PCV10/13).

Over the past decade, the Nomenclature Committee on Cell Death (NCCD) has formulated guidelines for the definition and interpretation of cell death from morphological, biochemical, and functional perspectives. Since the field continues to expand and novel mechanisms that orchestrate multiple cell death pathways are unveiled, we propose an updated classification of cell death subroutines focusing on mechanistic and essential (as opposed to correlative and dispensable) aspects of the process. As we provide molecularly oriented definitions of terms including intrinsic apoptosis, extrinsic apoptosis, mitochondrial permeability transition (MPT)-driven necrosis, necroptosis, ferroptosis, pyroptosis, parthanatos, entotic cell death, NETotic cell death, lysosome-dependent cell death, autophagy-dependent cell death, immunogenic cell death, cellular senescence, and mitotic catastrophe, we discuss the utility of neologisms that refer to highly specialized instances of these processes.

Background: The Streptococcus pneumoniae Invasive Disease network (SpIDnet) actively monitors populations in nine sites in seven European countries for invasive pneumococcal disease. Five sites use 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) alone and four use the ten-valent PCV (PCV10) and PCV13. Vaccination uptake is greater than 90% in six sites and 67-78% in three sites.

Aim: To investigate whether adding bevacizumab to neoadjuvant carboplatin-paclitaxel (CP) helps achieve optimal debulking, measured by complete resection rate (CRR) at interval debulking surgery (IDS), in patients with initially unresectable International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics stage IIIC/IV ovarian, tubal or peritoneal adenocarcinoma.
Methods: Multicentre, open-label, non-comparative phase II study. Ninety-five patients randomised (2:1) to receive four cycles of neoadjuvant CP ±3 concomitant cycles of bevacizumab 15 mg/kg (BCP) followed by IDS.

Indications for shoulder arthroplasty are numerous, mainly owing to glenohumeral osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or fracture of the proximal humerus. However, the anatomy and the biomechanics of the shoulder are complex and shoulder arthroplasty has evolved significantly over the past 30 years. This paper presents the main recent evolutions in shoulder replacement, the questions not answered yet, and the main future areas of research.

Since the inception of lung transplantation in 1982, it has been standard practice to implant donor lungs on the ipsilateral side in the recipient. The development of the techniques of lobar and bilateral lobar transplantation has shown that lung morphology may adapt to the shape of the thorax. Thus, variations in implantation have become possible.
